As laboratory-based bioaccumulation methods are standardized and expanded to include other test species, kinetic studies assessing the major classes of contaminants with these species are needed to adequately select the standard duration for bioaccumulation tests. In the present study we measured the uptake (28-d exposure) of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs; total and selected congeners) from field-contaminated sediment in the oligochaete Lumbriculus variegatus, mayfly nymph Hexagenia spp., and fathead minnow Pimephales promelas. Depuration (25 d) of PCBs was measured in organisms that had been transferred to clean sediment after the 28-d exposure. Uptake and elimination of PCBs was rapid in L. variegatus and Hexagenia spp. Tissue residues reached steady-state concentrations within 28 d; elimination rates and biota-sediment accumulation factors (BSAFs) of the PCB congeners were not correlated with K(OW). Uptake and elimination rates of PCBs were slower in P. promelas, and it is not clear whether steady-state was reached in fish tissues. Elimination rates of the PCB congeners significantly decreased with increasing K(OW) in fish. The appropriateness of a 28-d exposure for measuring steady-state concentrations in tissue of the invertebrates was confirmed, but further study is required for fish.  相似文献

A mathematical model of thermosolutal convection in directionally solidified dendritic alloys has been developed that includes a mushy zone underlying an all-liquid region. The model assumes a nonconvective initial state with planar and horizontal isotherms and isoconcentrates that move upward at a constant solidification velocity. The initial state is perturbed, nonlinear calculations are performed to model convection of the liquid when the system is unstable, and the results are compared with the predictions of a linear stability analysis. The mushy zone is modeled as a porous medium of variable porosity consistent with the volume fraction of, interdendritic liquid that satisfies the conservation equations for energy and solute concentrations. Results are presented for systems involving lead-tin alloys (Pb-10 wt pct Sn and Pb-20 wt pct Sn) and show significant differences with results of plane-front solidification. The calculations show that convection in the mushy zone is mainly driven by convection in the all-liquid region, and convection of the interdendritic liquid is only significant in the upper 20 pct of the mushy zone if it is significant at all. The calculated results also show that the systems are stable at reduced gravity levels of the order of 10−4 g 0 (g 0=980 cm·s−1) or when the lateral dimensions of the container are small enough, for stable temperature gradients between 2.5≤G l≤100 K·cm−1 at solidification velocities of 2 to 8 cm·h−1.  相似文献

Data for the densities and expansion coefficients of solid and liquid alloys of the Pb-Sn system are consolidated in this paper. More importantly, the data are analyzed with the purpose of expressing either the density of the solid or of the liquid as a function of its composition and temperature. In particular, the densities of the solid, Eqs. [15] and [16], and of the liquid, Eqs. [24] and [25], during dendritic solidification are derived. Finally, the solutal and thermal coefficients of volume expansion for the liquid are given as functions of temperature and composition (Figure 9).  相似文献

A simple method to estimate the surface tensions of binary alloys has been developed by assuming that the partial molar excess free energies are proportional to the number of nearest neighbors in both the bulk solution and in the surface itself. In order to estimate the surface tension of the alloys, excess free energies of the alloys and the surface tensions of the pure components are required. This method has been applied to ten alloys exhibiting positive, positive as well as negative, and negative deviations from ideal solution behavior. The method depends upon the reliability of the thermodynamic data for the bulk solutions, and, further, it is important to use an interpolation scheme that is consistent with the Gibbs-Duhem requirement, when the thermodynamic data are presented in tabular form as a function of composition. To accomplish this interpolation, a special calculation technique is presented.  相似文献

Alkylation of isobutane with ethylene was investigated over a -Al2O3-Cl catalyst at temperatures below 380 K. Ethylene was fully converted over a period of 5–20 h, then conversion steadily decreased. The only products were alkanes, mainly C6 and C8. The composition of the alkylate varied with the isobutane/ethylene ratio and with time-on-stream. Among the C6, 2,3-dimethylbutane became predominant (>95%) after a few hours. The composition of octanes appeared less selective. The kinetic distributions of isomers are interpreted by a new mechanism based on cyclopropane-carbonium ions. Upon catalyst ageing, alkane isomerization decays faster than alkylation, oligomerization being least affected.  相似文献

Fibrinogen is the first coagulation protein to reach critically low levels during traumatic haemorrhage. There have been no differential effects on clinical outcomes between the two main sources of fibrinogen replacement: cryoprecipitate and fibrinogen concentrate (Fg-C). However, the constituents of these sources are very different. The aim of this study was to determine whether these give rise to any differences in clot stability that may occur during trauma haemorrhage. Fibrinogen deficient plasma (FDP) was spiked with fibrinogen from cryoprecipitate or Fg-C. A panel of coagulation factors, rotational thromboelastography (ROTEM), thrombin generation (TG), clot lysis and confocal microscopy were performed to measure clot strength and stability. Increasing concentrations of fibrinogen from Fg-C or cryoprecipitate added to FDP strongly correlated with Clauss fibrinogen, demonstrating good recovery of fibrinogen (r2 = 0.99). A marked increase in Factor VIII, XIII and α2-antiplasmin was observed in cryoprecipitate (p < 0.05). Increasing concentrations of fibrinogen from both sources were strongly correlated with ROTEM parameters (r2 = 0.78–0.98). Cryoprecipitate therapy improved TG potential, increased fibrinolytic resistance and formed more homogeneous fibrin clots, compared to Fg-C. In summary, our data indicate that cryoprecipitate may be a superior source of fibrinogen to successfully control bleeding in trauma coagulopathy. However, these different products require evaluation in a clinical setting.  相似文献

Glycan microarrays are useful tools for lectin glycan profiling. The use of a glycan microarray based on evanescent‐field fluorescence detection was herein further extended to the screening of lectin inhibitors in competitive experiments. The efficacy of this approach was tested with 2/3′‐mono‐ and 2,3′‐diaromatic type II lactosamine derivatives and galectins as targets and was validated by comparison with fluorescence anisotropy proposed as an orthogonal protein interaction measurement technique. We showed that subtle differences in the architecture of the inhibitor could be sensed that pointed out the preference of galectin‐3 for 2′‐arylamido derivatives over ureas, thioureas, and amines and that of galectin‐7 for derivatives bearing an α substituent at the anomeric position of glucosamine. We eventually identified a diaromatic oxazoline as a highly specific inhibitor of galectin‐3 versus galectin‐1 and galectin‐7.  相似文献

The uniaxial behavior of Nitinol in different forms and at different temperatures has been well documented in the literature. Mathematical models for the three-dimensional behavior of this class of materials, covering superelasticity, plasticity, and shape memory effects have been previously developed. Phenomenological models embedded in FEA analysis are part of common practice today in the development of devices made out of Nitinol. In vivo loading of medical devices has cyclic characteristics. There have been some indications in the literature that cyclic loading of Nitinol modifies substantially its behavior. A consortium of several stent manufacturers, Safe Technology and Dassault Systèmes Simulia Corp., dedicated to the development of fatigue laws suitable for life prediction of Nitinol devices, has conducted an extensive experimental study of the modifications in uniaxial behavior of both Nitinol wire and tubing due to cyclic loading. The Abaqus Nitinol material model has been extended to capture some of the phenomena observed and is described in this article. Namely, a preload beyond 6% strain alters the transformation plateaus; if the cyclic load amplitude is large enough, permanent deformations (residual martensite) are observed; the lower plateau increases; and the upper plateau changes. The modifications to the upper plateau are very interesting in the sense that it appears broken: its start stress gets lowered creating a new plateau up to the highest level of cyclic strain, followed by resuming the original plateau until full transformation. Since quite often the geometry of a device at the point at which it is subjected to cyclic loading is very much dependent on the manufacturing, deployment, and preloading sequence, it is important that analyses be conducted with the original material behavior up to that point, and then with the cyclic behavior thereafter.  相似文献
