Globe artichoke is an ancient herbaceous plant native to the Mediterranean Basin. The edible part of the plant (head) is particularly rich in polyphenols, whose therapeutic properties are well documented. A field experiment was conducted in Sicily (south Italy) to examine the influence of genotype and harvest time on the polyphenol content and profile of different head parts. The concentrations of 19 phenolic compounds were determined by HPLC-DAD-ESI/MSn analysis. It was observed that individual phenolic substances were preferentially accumulated in specific head parts and genotypes. Apigenin 7-O-glucuronide was found to be the major flavonoid, with 6298 mg kg−1 DM in ‘Romanesco clone C3’ receptacle, whereas chlorogenic acid represented the main caffeoylquinic acid, reaching 14841 mg kg−1 DM in the inner bracts of ‘Violetto di Sicilia’. Our findings prove also the influence of climatic conditions on the phenolic profile and thus suggest giving specific consideration to harvest time.  相似文献

Increasing potassium intake ameliorates blood pressure (BP) and cardiovascular (CV) prognoses in the general population; therefore the World Health Organization recommends a high-potassium diet (90–120 mEq/day). Hyperkalaemia is a rare condition in healthy individuals due to the ability of the kidneys to effectively excrete dietary potassium load in urine, while an increase in serum K+ is prevalent in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Hyperkalaemia prevalence increases in more advanced CKD stages, and is associated with a poor prognosis. This scenario generates controversy on the correct nutritional approach to hyperkalaemia in CKD patients, considering the unproven link between potassium intake and serum K+ levels. Another concern is that drug-induced hyperkalaemia leads to the down-titration or withdrawal of renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASI) and mineralocorticoids receptors antagonists (MRA) in patients with CKD, depriving these patients of central therapeutic interventions aimed at delaying CKD progression and decreasing CV mortality. The new K+-binder drugs (Patiromer and Sodium-Zirconium Cyclosilicate) have proven to be adequate and safe therapeutic options to control serum K+ in CKD patients, enabling RASI and MRA therapy, and possibly, a more liberal intake of fruit and vegetables.  相似文献

The rapid development of Internet of Things mobile terminals has accelerated the market's demand for portable mobile power supplies and flexible wearable devices. Here, an embedded metal-mesh transparent conductive electrode (TCE) is prepared on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) using a novel selective electrodeposition process combined with inverted film-processing methods. This embedded nickel (Ni)-mesh flexible TCE shows excellent photoelectric performance (sheet resistance of ≈0.2–0.5 Ω sq−1 at high transmittance of ≈85–87%) and mechanical durability. The PET/Ni-mesh/polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS PH1000) hybrid electrode is used as a transparent electrode for perovskite solar cells (PSCs), which exhibit excellent electric properties and remarkable environmental and mechanical stability. A power conversion efficiency of 17.3% is obtained, which is the highest efficiency for a PSC based on flexible transparent metal electrodes to date. For perovskite crystals that require harsh growth conditions, their mechanical stability and environmental stability on flexible transparent embedded metal substrates are studied and improved. The resulting flexible device retains 76% of the original efficiency after 2000 bending cycles. The results of this work provide a step improvement in flexible PSCs.  相似文献

During the last decade, on-surface fabricated graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) have gathered enormous attention due to their semiconducting π-conjugated nature and atomically precise structure. A significant breakthrough is the recent fabrication of nanoporous graphene (NPG) as a 2D array of laterally bonded GNRs. This covalent integration of GNRs could enable complex electronic functionality at the nanoscale; however, for that, it is crucial to externally control the electronic coupling between GNRs within NPGs, which, to date, has not been possible. Using quantum chemical calculations and large-scale transport simulations, this study demonstrates that such control is enabled in a newly designed quinone-NPG (q-NPG) thanks to its GNRs inter-connections based on electroactive para-benzoquinone units. As a result, the spatial distribution of injected currents in q-NPG may be tuned, with sub-nanometer precision, via the application of external electrostatic gates and electrochemical means. These results thus provide a fundamental strategy to design organic nanodevices with built-in externally tunable electronics and spintronics, which is key for future applications such as bio-chemical nanosensing and carbon nanoelectronics.  相似文献

Microbial degradation of hydrocarbons depends on various chemical and physical factors (viz, temperature, electron acceptors, nutrients, pH, substrate characteristics) and on the presence of degrading microorganisms. Even if all these factors are optimized, oil biodegradation can still be retarded by diminished availability of the compound. Setti et al. (1992) have shown that n-alkanes affect the biodegradation of aromatic sulfur compounds by an aerobic Pseudomonas sp.

This communication illustrates further investigations into the diffusion effect that controls the biodegradation of aromatic sulfur compounds.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) can be converted in the dissolved state only. This implies that mass-transfer from the solid phase to the aqueous phase might be rate-limiting. Dibenzothiophene (DBT) biodegradation is a good example of this model.

The presence of a fatty acid (hexadecanoic acid, aC16) during the fermentation affects DBT degradation. We propose a model in which aC16 surrounds the DBT molecule forming a micelle which favors a co-metabolic process between the fatty acid and the aromatic sulfur compound.

Similar behavior is seen when DBT is dissolved in n-dodecane (C12) and n-hexadecane (C16). There are two important parameters that affect DBT degradation in this system: the surface area of the substrate and the DBT concentration in C12. DBT degradation is limited by the diffusion of the sulfur compound from the organic phase to the adsorbed microorganism on the hydrocarbon. Diffusion increases with the DBT concentration, and the DBT degradation rate is significantly higher than that reported for DBT alone. In this case, a carrier effect of the n-alkane in the DBT degradation is shown. A barrier effect is suggested when the DBT concentration is below the limit for which the degradation rate is lowest.

Our investigations show that the presence of a co-substrate, such as fatty acids or n-alkanes, affects the bioavailability of the aromatic sulfur compound in aerobic conditions.  相似文献

A mathematical modelling approach is proposed for measurement-based characterization of non-linear dynamic sources of error in the vertical channel of a sampling oscilloscope. The proposed approach has been derived from a recently proposed modified Volterra series expansion which, under particular conditions, provides fast convergence and can be truncated to the first integral term. A possible characterization procedure, based on instrument testing under sinusoidal AC input signals with different frequencies and variable DC bias components, is described and used to evaluate the performances of a commercial oscilloscope. The waveforms obtained by using the identified model are compared with the experimental ones for model validation; successively the model is used for the error compensation of the memory effects.  相似文献

In a first experiment, exposure of DBA/2 mice to a small number of attack bites by a C57BL/6 mouse resulted in a low-intensity analgesia as assessed by the tail-flick test. The analgesia dissipated within 10 min and was insensitive to naloxone (10 mg/kg, sc) but was antagonized by the irreversible opioid antagonist beta-chlornaltrexamine (5 mg/kg, sc). In a second experiment, preexposure to a nonaggressive C57BL/6 opponent prevented low-intensity analgesia induced by a small number of attack bites 24 hr later. The preexposure effect was abolished by naloxone (10 mg/kg, sc) given before the nonaggressive confrontation. This suggests that the release of endogenous opioids during preexposure interferes with the subsequent activation of endogenous opioid-mediated pain control mechanisms. This article presents useful guidelines for designing CMOS class-AB output stages. Three Quality Factors, which allow analysis and comparison of different output stages, are used to design two CMOS class-AB stages. We show that using the proposed Quality Factors and the related strategy leads to an efficient design in terms trade-off among area, current consumption, bandwidth and distortion. Indeed, for one of the two stages adopted as example, the design through the Quality Factors results in superior distortion performance with respect to the design suggested in the original article. Design examples and simulations are provided to validate the design strategy.  相似文献

Adhesion between platelets and polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) is a key event in thrombosis and inflammation. Double color fluorescence-activated cell sorter (FACS) analysis was used to determine the extent and kinetics of adhesion of thrombin-activated platelets to resting or activated PMN when mixed cell populations were incubated in dynamic conditions. Activated platelets bound very rapidly to PMN. Mixed cell conjugates reached a maximum at 1 minute and were reversible within 10 minutes. Platelet/PMN adhesion required both Ca2+ and Mg2+ and was markedly increased by the presence of Mn2+. The latter made mixed cell conjugates stable up to 10 minutes. Adhesion of platelets required metabolic activity of PMN and was abolished by tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Furthermore, adhesion of platelets to PMN resulted in binding of a monoclonal antibody (MoAb 24) known as beta 2 integrins "activation reporter." When PMN were activated by exogenous stimuli, the adhesion of platelets was markedly increased: fMLP induced a rapid and transient effect, while PMA resulted in a slower, but stable, increase in mixed conjugates formation. The hypothesis that activated PMN beta 2 integrins are able to bind a counter-receptor on platelets was directly demonstrated by the increase of mixed cell conjugates following PMN treatment with KIM127 and KIM185, two anti-CD18 antibodies able to induce the active conformation of beta 2 integrins. Consistently, two other anti-CD18, as well as an anti-CD11b inhibitory antibody abolished platelet/PMN adhesion. PMN beta 2 integrin activation was not the only mechanism for activated platelet/PMN adhesion to occur: indeed, this phenomenon could also be inhibited by two anti-P-selectin antibodies. Resting platelets did not adhere to resting PMN, but markedly adhered to fMLP- or PMA-activated PMN. Resting platelet/fMLP-activated PMN adhesion was abolished by anti-CD18 antibodies, but not by anti-P-selectin antibodies. In conclusion, activated platelet/PMN interaction can be modeled as an adhesion cascade involving a P-selectin-dependent recognition step and a functional signal. The latter proceeds through tyrosine kinase activation and enables a beta 2 integrin-dependent adhesion to a not yet identified counter-receptor constitutively expressed on platelet surface.  相似文献

Introduction: During hemodialysis (HD) the interaction of the blood with the dialyzer triggers both an inflammatory reaction and an activation of the coagulation cascade. An accepted parameter to quantify the extent of coagulation activation during HD is not available. This study aims to evaluate its amplitude, comparing dialyzers made of different polysulfone polymers, by measuring D‐dimers in the filter‐rinsing fluids (Frf) and to test whether Frf D‐dimers are suitable candidate markers to assess contact coagulation activation during HD. Methods: In a prospective, cross‐over study 41 hemodialysis patients were randomly allocated to nine HD sessions with three types of polysulfone membranes: Filter A: Poliflux®RevaclearMAX; Filter B: Helixone®Fx80, Filter C: Polyflux®H210. Findings: A total of 117 HD sessions were studied. The mean (SD) filter (Frf) D‐dimers were 0.19 µg/L (0.56) for Filter A; 0.66 µg/L (2.81) for Filter B; 0.33 µg/L (1.13) for Filter C. Significant differences were found: A vs. B (P < 0.01), A vs. C (P = 0.01); B vs. C not significant. A large between‐patient variability of D‐dimer filter levels was found. D‐Dimers in blood showed a similar trend but differences were not significant. Discussion: The contact activation of coagulation during HD may also vary among filters made up with similar polysulfones. D‐dimer in the filter rinsing fluid but not in the blood can be considered a candidate marker for the evaluation of thrombogenicity during HD. Further studies are needed to elucidate the mechanism(s) and to confirm the usefulness of filter rinsing fluid D‐Dimers as a clotting activation marker during HD.  相似文献
