Hydrodynamic characteristics of a FCC regenerator

The hydrodynamic and gas mixing characteristics have been determined in a FCC regenerator (0.48 m I.D.x3.4 m high) with FCC particles. Solids holdup in the dense bed decreases with increasing gas velocity, but it increases in the freeboard region. The bubble/void fraction increases with an increase along the bed height at a given gas velocity and increases with increasing gas velocity at a constant bed height. Backmixed tracer gas at the wall region is higher than that at the center region of the bed. The gas backmixing coefficient decreases with increasing gas velocity.     

油水气三相流液体流量调节系统研究与设计

针对油水气三相流研究试验平台液体流量调节范围宽、范围度大的问题,提出采用3条主回路与3条旁通回流调节支路来覆盖所有的流量范围,设计了液相系统原理图及管路布置图,对3条旁通回流调节支路中调节阀的计算流量、计算压差及Kv值进行了计算,并对调节阀的开度及实际可调比进行了验算,结果表明选定的调节阀性能满足油水气三相流研究试验的要求。     

海洋非黏结柔性管道接头密封结构分析

介绍海洋非黏结柔性管道接头的常见密封结构,用Abaqus对接头的密封特性进行数值分析,研究密封圈的密封性能对不同密封结构参数的灵敏度,得到密封结构参数变化对接头密封结构的密封性能和力学性能影响的一般规律.结果表明密封结构的主要设计参数为密封圈的锥角和曲率半径以及加载位移等.     

平面线弹性问题的等几何形状优化方法

介绍具有等几何分析功能的GeoPDEs平台的数据结构和分析流程,针对二维平面形状优化问题,以控制顶点为设计变量,在推导出等几何分析的灵敏度计算公式后,提出基于GeoPDEs平台的灵敏度分析的高效实现方法,并采用移动渐近线法(Method of Moving Asymptotes,MMA)算法进行等几何形状优化.形状优化实例表明该方法收敛速度快,优化结果较理想.

Apparatus for measuring physical adsorption on intact supported porous membranes

We present a non-destructive, reusable apparatus with which to measure physical adsorption isotherms of intact porous membranes. We developed a two-piece sample container to make reliable sorption measurements of porous membranes, the properties of which may differ from those of powders due to crystal intergrowth. This novel system employs a resealable container that can be immersed in a cryogenic bath, into which tubular, planar, or other porous membranes and films may be placed. Detailed sorption isotherms, including high-resolution adsorption in the low pressure (micropore-filling) region, are shown for MFI-type zeolite membranes grown on two types and configurations of α-alumina support.

Production of human normal adult and fetal hemoglobins in Escherichia coli

A hemoglobin expression system in Escherichia coli is described. In order to produce authentic human hemoglobin, we need to co-express both methionine aminopeptidase and globin genes under the control of a strong promoter. We have constructed three plasmids, pHE2, pHE4 and pHE7, for the expression of human normal adult hemoglobin and a plasmid, pHE9, for the expression of human fetal hemoglobin, in high yields. The globin genes can be derived from either synthetic genes or human globin cDNAs. The extra amino-terminal methionine residues of the expressed globins can be removed by the co-expressed methionine aminopeptidase. The heme is inserted correctly into the expressed alpha- globin from our expression plasmids. A fraction (approximately 25%) of the heme is not inserted correctly into the expressed beta- or gamma- globin. However, the incorrectly inserted hemes can be converted into the correct conformation by carrying out a simple oxidation-reduction process on the purified hemoglobin molecule. We have investigated the functional properties of the expressed hemoglobins by measuring their oxygen-binding properties and their structural features by obtaining their 1H-NMR spectra. Our results show that authentic human normal adult and fetal hemoglobins can be produced from our expression plasmids in E. coli and in high yields. Our expression system allows us to design and to produce any recombinant hemoglobins needed for our research on the structure-function relationship in hemoglobin.      

Water flux,DSC, and cytotoxicity characterization of membranes of cellulose acetate produced from sugar cane bagasse,using PEG 600

Summary In this article, cellulose acetate produced through the homogeneous acetylation of sugar cane bagasse cellulose was used to produce membranes, using poly(ethyleneglycol) 600 (PEG 600) as an admixture. The membranes were characterized using water flux measurements (Payne’s cup), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and neutral red uptake (cytotoxicity). The results showed that PEG 600 acts as a crystallinity inductor and/or pore former in the cellulose acetate matrix. The induction of crystallinity is important for this system since it had not been reported on the literature yet. The results also demonstrated that the studied membranes present a nontoxic behavior.
