The cyclic crack growth behaviour was measured by means of d.c. potential drop, a.c. potential drop, ultrasonic and crack-opening displacement (COD) methods. The methods were applied to component tests on straight pipes with an outer diameter of approximately 800 mm and a wall thickness of approximately 50 mm. The pipes were subjected to constant internal pressure (about 15 MPa) and either an alternating (or pulsating) or a quasi-static bending moment using d.c. potential drop, a.c. potential drop, ultrasonic and flaw-opening (COD) methods. The efficiency of the particular methods has been proved by comparison with fractographical analysis of the fracture surfaces.  相似文献

A general finite element approach to computing the modes of open-boundary waveguides is presented. This efficient and robust scheme applies equally to situations with real and complex propagation constants. By using a localised boundary impedance condition, the approach preserves the sparsity of the global matrices. A solution is obtained to the problem of the longitudinal vibration of a rod with a coating. The solution is obtained in a refined formulation. The same theoretical model is also used to find the solution for the case of static tension. An analysis is made of the way in which the properties of a deformable rod are affected by the stiffness of the shear constraints, which is regarded as a physicomechanical characteristic of the coating-substrate system. A method is proposed for experimental determination of stiffness for both static and cyclic loading conditions. The role of the polarization of objects, for determining the forces acting on them in a surrounding potential flow, is developed. This is used to derive the particle pressure and compressibility for arrays, as well as expressions for the overall average stresses. The structure of the array, and the way in which it responds to a virtual strain, determines these stresses in contrast to earlier structure-independent models of Geurst (Physica 129A (1985) 233–261, Physica, 135A (1986) 455–486) and Wallis (Multiphase Sci. Technol. 5 (1989) 239–361, Int. J. Multiphase Flow 17 (6) (1991) 815–821). Specific results are given for rectangular arrays of spheres.  相似文献

This paper considers the application of trellis coding techniques to direct-sequence spread-spectrum multiple-access (DS/SSMA) communication. The unique feature of the trellis codes considered is that they are constructed over the set of possible signature sequences rather than over some standard 2-D signal constellation. The resulting codes have a small number of signals per dimension. We present several examples of these trellis codes, and suggest possible methods of implementation. We also present a detailed error analysis for this system, which employs techniques developed by Lehnert and Pursley (1987, 1989)) to accurately model the multiple access interference. We generate numerical results for several examples and conclude that the proposed trellis coded systems yield significant performance improvements over binary antipodal DS/SSMA systems. In addition, the new trellis codes perform better than standard error control techniques with the same complexity and code rate. Analytic results are verified with simulations  相似文献

The authors formulate and implement a numerical mode-matching (NMM) method to model electrode-type resistivity tools in invaded thin beds. The authors derive the low-frequency approximation of the Maxwell's equations to obtain the partial differential equation for the potential field. The new NMM program is validated by comparing the numerical results with those obtained from other dc programs. It is found that this new program is much faster than the program using the finite-element method (FEM), and hence is useful for routine interpretation of resistivity logs and for inversion  相似文献
