A new method that consists of combining wood pre-grading by surface colour followed by the application of homogeneity thermal treatments is proposed to reduce the surface colour variability of the thermally modified blue gum wood. To identify the conditions of the homogeneity thermal treatment for two pre-graded groups with different initial surface colours (pinkish and yellowish), the effects of applying 25 different thermal treatment intensities to such groups were analysed. The effects of this method on mass loss and volumetric swelling were also analysed. Results show that an optical pre-grading of the wood samples and treatments under different conditions can reduce the colour variability of the blue gum wood samples, as well as the volumetric swelling. Mass loss was not homogenised after the treatment, but the difference of masses between the two groups was similar to their untreated state. The application of this new methodology may be of interest for the sawn timber industry to bring more uniform boards on the markets and to promote Eucalyptus globulus as a price-competitive and sustainable alternative timber.  相似文献

Electrospun fibrous substrates mimicking extracellular matrices can be prepared by electrospinning, yielding aligned fibrous matrices as internal fillers to manufacture artificial nerves. Gelatin aligned nano-fibers were prepared by electrospinning after tuning the collector rotation speed. The effect of alignment on cell adhesion and proliferation was tested in vitro using primary cultures, the Schwann cell line, RT4-D6P2T, and the sensory neuron-like cell line, 50B11. Cell adhesion and proliferation were assessed by quantifying at several time-points. Aligned nano-fibers reduced adhesion and proliferation rate compared with random fibers. Schwann cell morphology and organization were investigated by immunostaining of the cytoskeleton. Cells were elongated with their longitudinal body parallel to the aligned fibers. B5011 neuron-like cells were aligned and had parallel axon growth when cultured on the aligned gelatin fibers. The data show that the alignment of electrospun gelatin fibers can modulate Schwann cells and axon organization in vitro, suggesting that this substrate shows promise as an internal filler for the design of artificial nerves for peripheral nerve reconstruction.  相似文献

The potential of diesel particulate filters wash‐coated with highly dispersed nano‐metric ceria particles for continuous regeneration has been investigated. To this end, catalytic filters were prepared, soot‐loaded (avoiding the formation of the cake layer), and regenerated—under isothermal conditions—at temperature ranging from 200–600°C. Results have shown that catalytic oxidation of soot starts from 300°C and, at all temperatures, the selectivity to CO2 is higher than 99%. 475°C is the minimum temperature at which the filter is regenerated via catalytic path. At this temperature, the catalytic filter maintains substantially the same performance over repeated cycles of soot loading and regeneration, indicating that the thermal stability of ceria is preserved. This has been further confirmed by comparison between the outcomes obtained from characterization (X‐ray powder diffraction, N2 adsorption at 77 K, Hg intrusion porosimetry, and scanning electron microscope/energy dispersive X‐ray analysis) of fresh filter and filter subjected to repeated regeneration tests. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 3442–3449, 2017  相似文献

The multistep development of cancer involves the cooperation between multiple molecular lesions, as well as complex interactions between cancer cells and the surrounding tumour microenvironment. The search for these synergistic interactions using experimental models made tremendous contributions to our understanding of oncogenesis. Yet, these approaches remain labour-intensive and challenging. To tackle such a hurdle, an integrative, multidisciplinary effort is required. In this article, we highlight the use of logical computational models, combined with experimental validations, as an effective approach to identify cooperative mechanisms and therapeutic strategies in the context of cancer biology. In silico models overcome limitations of reductionist approaches by capturing tumour complexity and by generating powerful testable hypotheses. We review representative examples of logical models reported in the literature and their validation. We then provide further analyses of our logical model of Epithelium to Mesenchymal Transition (EMT), searching for additional cooperative interactions involving inputs from the tumour microenvironment and gain of function mutations in NOTCH.  相似文献

Cold spray offers the possibility of obtaining almost zero-porosity buildups with no theoretical limit to the thickness. Moreover, cold spray can eliminate particle melting, evaporation, crystallization, grain growth, unwanted oxidation, undesirable phases and thermally induced tensile residual stresses. Such characteristics can boost its potential to be used as an additive manufacturing technique. Indeed, deposition via cold spray is recently finding its path toward fabrication of freeform components since it can address the common challenges of powder-bed additive manufacturing techniques including major size constraints, deposition rate limitations and high process temperature. Herein, we prepared nickel-based superalloy Inconel 718 samples with cold spray technique and compared them with similar samples fabricated by selective laser melting method. The samples fabricated using both methods were characterized in terms of mechanical strength, microstructural and porosity characteristics, Vickers microhardness and residual stresses distribution. Different heat treatment cycles were applied to the cold-sprayed samples in order to enhance their mechanical characteristics. The obtained data confirm that cold spray technique can be used as a complementary additive manufacturing method for fabrication of high-quality freestanding components where higher deposition rate, larger final size and lower fabrication temperatures are desired.  相似文献

This paper deals with the analysis of the evolution of the surface morphology of metal substrates coated with high-performance thermoplastic powders, namely PPA 571 H, by using electrostatic fluidized bed (EFB) process. Attention has been particularly focused on the relationship between baking time and temperature of EFB coated substrates and the morphological characteristics of the resulting polymeric films.

First, thermal behaviour of PPA 571 H polymeric powders was characterized by using standard calorimetric techniques. Accordingly, PPA 571 H melting kinetic was experimentally deduced. Based upon experimental findings, predictive analytical model was also developed and employed to trace ‘iso-conversion’ curves out.

Second, metal substrates, made from low carbon steel (AISI 1040), were EFB coated and baked at several baking time and temperatures. Combined analyses of scanning electron and confocal microscopes were led to measure the evolution of the films surface morphology under different baking conditions. Accordingly, a relationship between film morphologies and melting degree was sought. Consistent trends of roughness parameters versus baking parameters were found, with smoother finishes of the polymeric films being achieved for higher degrees of melting, that is, for higher baking temperature and time. Full maps and related analytical models of the finishing levels according to baking parameters were also built up, hence providing first useful indications to powder coaters on how to best deal with their settings.  相似文献

The kinetic parameters (Km and Vmax) of lipoprotein lipase (LPL)-catalyzed transesterification were determined in (R)- and (S)-carvone, and in mixtures of the two. It was found that only Vmax was significantly affected by solvent chirality. LPL thermostability was not influenced by solvent config- uration, whereas activation energy was twice as high in (R)-carvone as in (S)-carvone.  相似文献
