Facilitating the Rapid Development and Scalable Orchestration of Composite Web Services

The development of new Web services through the composition of existing ones has gained a considerable momentum as a means to realise business-to-business collaborations. Unfortunately, given that services are often developed in an ad hoc fashion using manifold technologies and standards, connecting and coordinating them in order to build composite services is a delicate and time-consuming task. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a system in which services are composed using a model-driven approach, and the resulting composite services are orchestrated following a peer-to-peer paradigm. The system provides tools for specifying composite services through statecharts, data conversion rules, and multi-attribute provider selection policies. These specifications are interpreted by software components that interact in a peer-to-peer way to coordinate the execution of the composite service. We report results of an experimental evaluation showing the relative advantages of this peer-to-peer approach with respect to a centralised one.     

Detection of gases by correlation spectroscopy

This paper describes the detection of various common gases by means of correlation spectroscopy, employing a complementary-source-modulation (CoSM) approach based on compact light-emitting diode (LED) sources. Theoretical results for the quantitative detection of O₂, CO, and CO₂ by this CoSM method are presented, using, as their basis, spectral absorption data from the Hitran database. In demonstrating the proposed detection principle, new experimental results for the detection of O₂ in air are presented, with the use of practical low-cost LED sources.     

Comparison of conventional and soft computing-based power control methods in mobile communications systems

 In this paper, we give a comparison between the conventional power control scheme and soft computing-based approaches in a mobile communications application. At the base station, the `bang–bang' control strategy and a neural network-based prediction control method are employed. In addition, full power command transmission mode, single-bit command transmission mode, and fuzzy logic-based power command enhancement unit are considered. Based on simulation experiments, we quantitatively evaluate the performance of various combinations of these control methods and command transmission modes. Conclusions on the optimal configuration are finally drawn.     

串联补偿技术在远距离高电压交流输电系统中的应用

文章针对远距离,重载,跨区间交流输电系统的稳定及传输容量问题,提出了串联补偿方案,并围绕采用串联补偿技术所应考虑的一些主要问题,以远距输电系统为例进行了讨论,文中还从理论的角度阐述了可控串补提高系统稳定性,增加系统功率传输容量的原理,通过仿真对其有效性进行了论证并与固定串补进行了对比。

Enhanced photoluminescence from free-standing microstructures fabricated on MBE grown PbSe–PbSrSe MQW structure

Fabrication of microrods from multi-quantum well (MQW) PbSe–PbSrSe structure grown in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) followed by its morphological as well as optical characterizations are described. Pulsed PL intensity is increased by 64 times per unit surface area from a free-standing MQW microrod mounted on copper heat sink compared with the bulk sample. Enhancement in side emission power due to the higher optical confinement effect during pulsed photoluminescence (PL) from MQW semiconductor microtube inserted in hollow quartz optical fiber signifies that these microstructures are robust in nature and crucial contenders for portable mid-infrared optoelectronic devices to be used in the field of industrial trace-gas sensing.     

A New Approach for Filtering and Derivative Estimation of Noisy Signals

Filtering and estimation of derivatives in a single step from noisy signals is an important and challenging task in signal processing. The aim of this paper is to propose a new tracking differentiator based on only one parameter; this differentiator is able to synchronously filter noise and estimate the derivative of the input signal. The new tracking differentiator design is based on an inverse Taylor series approach. Both error and stability analyses of the tracking differentiator design are provided. Theoretical analysis and computer simulation results show that this tracking differentiator cannot only obtain better filtering results than previous approaches but can also estimate the derivatives with high accuracy.
