A complex-valued pipelined recurrent neural network (CPRNN) for nonlinear adaptive prediction of complex nonlinear and nonstationary signals is introduced. This architecture represents an extension of the recently proposed real-valued PRNN of Haykin and Li in 1995. To train the CPRNN, a complex-valued real time recurrent learning (CRTRL) algorithm is first derived for a single recurrent neural network (RNN). This algorithm is shown to be generic and applicable to general signals that have complex domain representations. The CRTRL is then extended to suit the modularity of the CPRNN architecture. Further, to cater to the possibly large dynamics of the input signals, a gradient adaptive amplitude of the nonlinearity within the neurons is introduced to give the adaptive amplitude CRTRL (AACRTRL). A comprehensive analysis of the architecture and associated learning algorithms is undertaken, including the role of the number of nested modules, number of neurons within the modules, and input memory of the CPRNN. Simulations on real-world and synthetic complex data support the proposed architecture and algorithms. 相似文献

Six Sigma as a methodology for quality improvement is often presented and deployed in terms of the dpmo metric, i.e., defects per million opportunities. As the sigma level of a process improves beyond three, practical interpretation problems could arise when conventional Shewhart control charts are applied during the Control phase of the define-measure-analyze-improve-control framework. In this article, some alternative techniques are described for the monitoring and control of a process that has been successfully improved; the techniques are particularly useful to Six Sigma Black Belts in dealing with high-quality processes. The approach used would thus ensure a smooth transition from a low-sigma process management to maintenance of a high-sigma performance in the closing phase of a Six Sigma project. 相似文献

Low pH enhances tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF)-induced cytolysis of cancer cells and TNF-membrane interactions that include binding, insertion, and ion-channel formation. We have also found that TNF increases Na+ influx in cells. Here, we examined the structural features of the TNF-membrane interaction pathway that lead to channel formation. Fluorometric studies link TNF's acid-enhanced membrane interactions to rapid but reversible acquisition of hydrophobic surface properties. Intramembranous photolabeling shows that (i) protonation of TNF promotes membrane insertion, (ii) the physical state of the target bilayer affects the kinetics and efficiency of TNF insertion, and (iii) binding and insertion of TNF are two distinct events. Acidification relaxes the trimeric structure of soluble TNF so that the cryptic carboxyl termini, centrally located at the base of the trimer cone, become susceptible to carboxypeptidase Y. After membrane insertion, TNF exhibits a trimeric configuration in which the carboxyl termini are no longer exposed; however, the proximal salt-bridged Lys-11 residues as well as regional surface amino acids (Glu-23, Arg-32, and Arg-44) are notably more accessible to proteases. The sequenced cleavage products bear the membrane-restricted photoreactive probe, proof that surface-cleaved TNF has an intramembranous disposition. In summary, the trimer's structural plasticity is a major determinant of its channel-forming ability. Channel formation occurs when cracked or partially splayed trimers bind and penetrate the bilayer. Reannealing leads to a slightly relaxed trimeric structure. The directionality of bilayer penetration conforms with x-ray data showing that receptor binding to the monomer interfaces of TNF poises the tip of the trimeric cone directly above the target cell membrane. 相似文献

Alpha5beta1 integrin is a cell surface receptor that mediates cell-extracellular matrix adhesions by interacting with fibronectin. Alpha5 subunit-deficient mice die early in gestation and display mesodermal defects; most notably, embryos have a truncated posterior and fail to produce posterior somites. In this study, we report on the in vivo effects of the alpha5-null mutation on cell proliferation and survival, and on mesodermal development. We found no significant differences in the numbers of apoptotic cells or in cell proliferation in the mesoderm of alpha5-null embryos compared to wild-type controls. These results suggest that changes in overall cell death or cell proliferation rates are unlikely to be responsible for the mesodermal deficits seen in the alpha5-null embryos. No increases in cell death were seen in alpha5-null embryonic yolk sac, amnion and allantois compared with wild-type, indicating that the mutant phenotype is not due to changes in apoptosis rates in these extraembryonic tissues. Increased numbers of dying cells were, however, seen in migrating cranial neural crest cells of the hyoid arch and in endodermal cells surrounding the omphalomesenteric artery in alpha5-null embryos, indicating that these subpopulations of cells are dependent on alpha5 integrin function for their survival. Mesodermal markers mox-1, Notch-1, Brachyury (T) and Sonic hedgehog (Shh) were expressed in the mutant embryos in a regionally appropriate fashion. Both T and Shh, however, showed discontinuous expression in the notochords of alpha5-null embryos due to (1) degeneration of the notochordal tissue structure, and (2) non-maintenance of gene expression. Consistent with the disorganization of notochordal signals in the alpha5-null embryos, reduced Pax-1 expression and misexpression of Pax-3 were observed. Anteriorly expressed HoxB genes were expressed normally in the alpha5-null embryos. However, expression of the posteriormost HoxB gene, Hoxb-9, was reduced in alpha5-null embryos. These results suggest that alpha5beta1-fibronectin interactions are not essential for the initial commitment of mesodermal cells, but are crucial for maintenance of mesodermal derivatives during postgastrulation stages and also for the survival of some neural crest cells. 相似文献

The pulmonary artery pressure (Ppa) responses to short runs of acute hypoxia at two different levels of end-tidal CO2 were measured in nine normal subjects and in 20 patients with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). In normal subjects the mean increase in Ppa in response to eucapnic hypoxia was 8 +/- 2 mm Hg (SEM) and was not different from the response to hypercapnic hypoxia (9 +/- 2 mm Hg, p > 0.2). In patients with OSA, the mean increase of Ppa was 8 +/- 1 mm Hg to eucapnic hypoxia, and the response to hypercapnic hypoxia was higher at 10 +/- 1 mm Hg (p = 0.01). Pulmonary pressor response to hypoxia was augmented (> 10 mm Hg) by hypercapnia in four of 20 patients with OSA but in none of the normal subjects. Normoxic hypercapnia alone was a weak stimulus, increasing Ppa by > 5 mm Hg in only two of nine patients with OSA studied. In conclusion, Ppa increases in both normal subjects and patients with OSA exposed to a ramp of acute isocapnic hypoxia. There were clear interindividual differences in pulmonary artery response. Tyrosine phosphorylation of cellular proteins occurs rapidly upon treatment of fibroblasts with acidic or basic fibroblast growth factors (aFGF, bFGF), suggesting a role for protein phosphorylation in the FGF signaling pathway. Stimulation of Swiss 3T3 cells and MRC-5 fibroblasts with bFGF results in the tyrosine phosphorylation of several proteins, of which the most prominent has been designated as p90. The phosphorylation of p90 is observed within 30 s of treating the cells with FGF but not with other growth factors. Microsequencing of p90 resolved on two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis indicated an N-terminal amino acid sequence which corresponded to a protein previously named as 80K-H. Polyclonal antibodies raised against the predicted C terminus of 80K-H recognized p90 on all Western blots. p90 was found to bind specifically to GRB-2-glutathione S-transferase fusion protein and to be immunoreactive with 80K-H antibody. In addition, anti-phosphotyrosine antibodies immunoprecipitated 80K-H from cell lysates of FGF-stimulated but not from control fibroblasts. The biological function of 80K-H is yet unknown. However, from this study and a previous observation of the obligatory dependence of p90 phosphorylation on FGF receptor occupation, it appears that 80K-H is involved in FGF signaling. 相似文献
