In order to lessen the energy loss of buildings during the operation phase, and also considering the importance of sustainable construction, producing bricks having more desirable thermal characteristics has become essential. In this study, insulation bricks composed of expanded perlite (EP), natural zeolite, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and clay were fabricated. The effect of replacing clay with GGBFS, zeolite and EP in amounts up to 15%, 15%, and 50% respectively on the bricks' properties was investigated. Mix proportion parameters of bricks were analyzed using the Taguchi method. Various properties of bricks including density, weight loss, shrinkage, apparent porosity, water absorption, resistance to freezing and thawing, compressive strength, thermal conductivity, and microstructural analysis of fired bricks were examined and compared against standard requirements for bricks. Overall, the results showed that while satisfying the standard requirements, bricks containing the aforementioned additives had lower thermal conductivity compared to normal bricks, and therefore, they could be utilized as heat insulation materials. 相似文献

In this paper, the transient and contact analysis of functionally graded (FG) brake disk is presented. The analysis was carried out using ANSYS parametric design language (APDL). The FG brake disk is made of metal–ceramic material. The material properties vary in radial direction with the values from full-metal at the inner radius to that of full-ceramic at the outer radius. In the analysis, FG brake disk is in contact with one pure pad disk and coulomb contact friction is considered as heat source. The non-dimensional results are obtained for specific value of grading index (n = 1) by considering different material property divisions of 25, 50, 100 and 200. The results presented are for the pressure distribution, total stress, pad penetration, friction stress, heat flux and temperature during contact, for different values of contact stiffness factor, Fkn, which depends on the property gradation of FG brake disk with 200 material property divisions. The results show that the contact pressure and contact total stress increase with increasing values of Fkn, and hence it can be concluded that gradation of the metal–ceramic has significant effect in the thermomechanical response of FG brake disks. 相似文献

Engineered surfaces that repel pathogens are of great interest due to their role in mitigating the spread of infectious diseases. A robust, universal, and scalable omniphobic spray coating with excellent repellency against water, oil, and pathogens is presented. The coating is substrate-independent and relies on hierarchically structured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microparticles, decorated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Wettability studies reveal the relationship between surface texturing of micro- and/or nano-hierarchical structures and the omniphobicity of the coating. Studies of pathogen transfer with bacteria and viruses reveal that an uncoated contaminated glove transfers pathogens to >50 subsequent surfaces, while a coated glove picks up 104 (over 99.99%) less pathogens upon first contact and transfers zero pathogens after the second touch. The developed coating also provides excellent stability under harsh conditions. The remarkable anti-pathogen properties of this surface combined with its ease of implementation, substantiate its use for the prevention of surface-mediated transmission of pathogens. 相似文献

A thermo elastic analysis is presented for axisymmetric rotating disks made of functionally graded material (FGM) with variable
thickness. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and graded in the radial direction according to a grading
index power law distribution. The temperature field considered is assumed to be uniformly distributed over the disk surface
and varied in the radial direction. Semi-analytical solutions for the displacement field are given for solid disk and annular
disk under free-free and fixed-free boundary conditions. The effects of the thermal field, the material grading index and
the geometry of the disk on the displacement and stress fields are investigated. Results of this study emphasize on the crucial
role of the temperature-dependent properties in a high temperature environment. A comparison of these results with the reported
ones in the literature that is temperature-dependent versus temperature-independent suggests that a functionally graded rotating
disk with concave thickness profile can work more efficiently than the one with uniform thickness irrespective of whether
the material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent or temperature-independent. 相似文献

Mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (MEPDG) uses axle load spectra and the number of axle applications to characterise traffic loads for pavement design. Alberta Transportation installed weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems at six highway locations to characterise traffic loads in Alberta for MEPDG design. Seasonal and regional trends in traffic characteristics of the six WIM sites were investigated and compared with the default values in the MEPDG for the years 2009 and 2010. Truck traffic classification (TTC) and axle load distribution factor (ALDF) for the WIM sites showed deviations from the MEPDG defaults. Seasonal variations were also evident in the distribution of different classes of truck throughout the year. Differences are attributed to cold climate conditions and special truck traffic in Alberta because of local industries. Influence of the differences between site-specific traffic characteristics and the MEPDG defaults on the performance of both flexible and rigid pavements for Alberta conditions was investigated through a sensitivity analysis. It was found that the flexible pavement performance is sensitive to TTC and ALDF, and the rigid pavement performance is most sensitive to ALDF. 相似文献

A novel ultra-wideband (UWB)-based microstrip antenna is presented in this work by using a slotted patch resonator, a tri-sectional stepped impedance resonator (SIR) feeder, as well as a reduced ground plane. The whole structure was realized on an FR4 substrate. The impact of incorporating several cases of ground planes on the input reflection has been thoroughly investigated under the same tri-sectional SIR feeder and by employing a slotted patch radiator. Since the complete ground plane presents an inadequate frequency response, by reducing the ground plane, the induced UWB responses are apparent while the antenna exhibits higher impedance bandwidth. The impact of both the uniform impedance resonator (UIR) as well as the SIR feeder on the input reflection has also been examined by following the same adopted reduced ground technique and using a slotted patch radiator. As a result, the UIR feeder exhibits a dual-band frequency response, when a wide notched band is incorporated in the range from 4.5–6.5 GHz. The dual-band response of the bi-sectional SIR feeder is still apparent with a narrower notched band in the frequency range from 4–5 GHz. As far as the tri-sectional SIR feeder is concerned, the UWB response is discernible without recording the existence of a notched band. Additionally, the antenna displays a higher impedance bandwidth compared with the previously reported steps. Our proposed antenna configuration is designed with highly compact dimensions and an overall size of 14 × 27.2 mm2. Moreover, it operates under the impedance bandwidth of 2.86–10.31 GHz that can be leveraged for numerous applications where wireless systems are used. Our approach presents several advantages compared with the other reported UWB-based antennas in the literature, whereas the measured S11 pattern is in good agreement with the simulated one. 相似文献

We investigate the entanglement properties of the Kondo spin chain when it is prepared in its ground state as well as its
dynamics following a single bond quench. We show that a true measure of entanglement such as negativity enables to characterize
the unique features of the gapless Kondo regime. We determine the spatial extent of the Kondo screening cloud and propose
an ansatz for the ground state in the Kondo regime accessible to this spin chain; we also demonstrate that the impurity spin
is indeed maximally entangled with the Kondo cloud. We exploit these features of the entanglement in the gapless Kondo regime
to show that a single local quench at one end of a Kondo spin chain may always induce a fast and long lived oscillatory dynamics,
which establishes a high quality entanglement between the individual spins at the opposite ends of the chain. This entanglement
is a footprint of the presence of the Kondo cloud and may be engineered so as to attain—even for very large chains—a constant
high value independent of the length; in addition, it is thermally robust. Moreover, we show that high entanglement between
very distant boundary spins is generated by suddenly connecting two long Kondo spin chains. We show that this procedure provides
an efficient way to route entanglement between multiple distant sites. To better evidence the remarkable peculiarities of
the Kondo regime, we carry a parallel analysis of the entanglement properties of the Kondo spin chain model in the gapped
dimerised regime where these remarkable features are absent. 相似文献

The wind energy market is currently dominated by horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWTs); however, vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are emerging as a design alternative, especially for deep-water offshore siting due to their low center of gravity, ease of access to drivetrain components, and overall simplicity. Due to the absence of a pitch mechanism in large-scale Darrieus VAWTs, stall control has often been used to manage power and loads. Introducing a pitching mechanism in H-type VAWTs has been studied, but this diminishes the mechanical simplicity advantage, and the use of a pitching mechanism in a large-scale Darrieus-type VAWT is not practical. This work examines an innovative, alternative method to control the rotor dynamics of a large-scale 5 MW VAWT to maximize power while constraining loads without introducing any new or complex mechanical elements. This control strategy is termed intracycle revolution per minute (RPM) control, where the rotational speed of the turbine is allowed to vary in an optimal fashion with the azimuthal location of blades as opposed to typical constant RPM operation. An optimization framework is formulated for an open-loop optimal control problem and solved to maximize power subject to constraints on aerodynamic design loads. Results are presented to demonstrate the benefits and the performance limits of intracycle RPM control for large-scale 5 MW Darrieus VAWTs, namely, (1) power production (quantified in terms of AEP) that can be increased subject to baseline load limits and (2) opportunities to significantly increase AEP or decrease loads via intracycle RPM control that are examined for both two-bladed and three-bladed VAWTs. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to compare two different Turkish fly ashes (Afsin-Elbistan and Seyitomer) for their ability to remove nickel [Ni(II)], copper [Cu(II)] and zinc [Zn(II)] from an aqueous solution. The effect of contact time, pH, initial metal concentration and fly ash origin on the adsorption process at 20+/-2 degrees C were studied. Batch kinetic studies showed that an equilibrium time of 2h was required for the adsorption of Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) on both the fly ashes. The maximum metal removal was found to be dependent on solution pH (7.0-8.0 for Ni(II), 5.0-6.0 for Cu(II) and 6.0-7.0 for Zn(II)) for each type of fly ash. With an increase in the concentrations of these metals, the adsorption of Ni(II) and Zn(II) increased while the Cu(II) adsorption decreased on both the fly ashes. Adsorption densities for the metal ions were Zn(II)>Cu(II)>Ni(II) for both the fly ashes. The effectiveness of fly ash as an adsorbent improved with increasing calcium (CaO) content. Adsorption data in the range of pH values (3.0-8.0) using Ni(II) and Cu(II) concentrations of 25+/-2mg/l and Zn(II) concentration of 30+/-2mg/l in solution were correlated using the linear forms of the Langmuir and Freundlich equations. The adsorption data were better fitted to the Langmuir isotherm since the correlation coefficients for the Langmuir isotherm were higher than that for the Freundlich isotherm. The fly ash with high calcium content (Afsin-Elbistan) was found to be a metal adsorbent as effective as activated carbon and, therefore, there are good prospects for the adsorptions of these metals on fly ash with high calcium content in practical applications in Turkey. 相似文献
