We describe a genetic algorithm approach to solve an inverse problem in optics, which determines the characteristics of a fiber Bragg grating from its reflected spectrum. A novel approach to detect pedestrians and to classify them according to their moving direction and relative speed is presented in this paper. This work focuses on the recognition of pedestrian lateral movements, namely: walking and running in both directions, as well as no movement. The perception of the environment is performed through a lidar sensor and an infrared camera. Both sensor signals are fused to determine regions of interest in the video data. The classification of these regions is based on the extraction of 2D translation invariant features, which are constructed by integrating over the transformation group. Special polynomial kernel functions are defined in order to obtain a good separability between the classes. Support vector machine classifiers are used in different configurations to classify the invariants. The proposed approach was evaluated offline considering fixed sensors. Results obtained based on real traffic scenes demonstrate very good detection and classification rates. 相似文献

It is now well established that residues from therapeutic drugs consumed by humans can end up, through the sewage system, in the surface water of populated areas. Given that the global production of major illicit drugs is comparable to that of widely used pharmaceuticals, we tested for the presence of drugs of abuse (cocaine, opioids, amphetamines and cannabis derivatives), some related opioid pharmaceuticals (codeine and methadone) and/or their metabolites in Italian and British surface waters. Having identified residues of all major drugs of abuse in raw and treated urban wastewater, we now measured their levels in several rivers and lakes by a selective multi-residue assay based on liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Recoveries in surface water were generally higher than 80%, with overall variability of the method lower than 10%. LODs were generally lower than 0.2 ng/L, and LOQs were lower than 0.6 ng/L, with few exceptions. Many of the tested substances were found in both rivers and lakes, at concentrations ranging from high pg/L to high ng/L, with loads in rivers in the range of tenths to hundreds of grams per day. Our data indicate that residues of drugs of abuse have become widespread surface water contaminants in populated areas. Since most of these residues still have potent pharmacological activities, their presence in the aquatic environment may have potential implications for human health and wildlife. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To assess the combination of duplex Doppler ultrasound (DUS) and complete carotid magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) for the non-invasive imaging of carotid disease and their effect on outcomes. Determine inter-reader agreement of carotid MRA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One-hundred and ten carotid bifurcations were evaluated using DUS, 2D and 3D time-of-flight MRA from the aortic arch to the Circle of Willis in 55 patients. Percentage stenoses were determined by two blinded readers using standardized criteria. Clinical follow-up was by chart review. RESULTS: Correlation of Doppler and MRA was excellent (r=0.903, P<0.001). Inter-reader agreement (K) for MRA was good: internal carotid artery (ICA) (0.750), external carotid artery (ECA) (0.674) and common carotid artery (CCA) (0.410). Differences in CCA readings were due to minor differences in categorizing lesions as CCA versus ICA or ECA. MRA and Doppler detected nine occluded ICAs. Two DUS occlusions had ICA flow by MRA; one due to a reconstituted precavernous ICA, one a near occluded vessel. Five patients (9%) had surgical management modified by MRA with four not having surgery: three distal ICA/Siphon occlusions and one less severe stenosis by MRA. One tandem lesion not visualized by DUS was surgically significant. Nine aortic arch abnormalities had no surgical impact, possibly due to small sample size. Of 41 endarterectomies, there were no complications from errors of diagnosis. CONCLUSION: Carotid MRA correlates well with DUS with good inter-reader agreement. MRA confirms Doppler findings, expands anatomical information and identifies tandem lesions from the aortic arch to the Circle of Willis which can affect surgical management. This approach to carotid artery imaging appears to have no negative effect on surgical outcome. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To review the sympathetic abnormalities occurring in heart failure, their pathophysiological importance and clinical relevance, and the effects of drug treatment, with particular reference to calcium antagonists. SYMPATHETIC ACTIVATION IN HEART FAILURE: Indirect and direct approaches to study sympathetic function in humans have documented conclusively that sympathetic activation represents a hallmark of cardiac failure syndrome. Evidence indicates that sympathetic overactivity is associated with, and probably caused by, a baroreflex impairment and that it has adverse effects on patients' prognosis and survival. GOALS OF DRUG TREATMENT IN CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE: In the past, drug treatment in heart failure was aimed at improving patients' survival by ameliorating cardiac hemodynamics. It is now established that a major goal of therapeutic intervention is also to reduce sympathetic activation characterizing heart failure. CALCIUM ANTAGONISTS IN HEART FAILURE: Studies with short-acting calcium antagonists show that they enhance sympathetic activation and that this has an adverse effect on patients' survival. In contrast, third generation calcium antagonists such as amlodipine, which have a slow onset and long duration of action, do not adversely affect sympathetic function and reflex cardiovascular control. Indeed, evidence suggests calcium antagonists with this profile may exert favorable clinical effects. 相似文献

The murine leukemia virus LP-BM5 has been used to reproduce the model of murine AIDS in order to evaluate the course of infection with the MO-1 strain of Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC). LP-BM5 was inoculated in C57BL/6 mice by intravenous (i.v.) injection either 8 weeks before an i.v. challenge with 10(3) or 10(6) CFU of MAC (coinfection 1) or 10 days after an i.v. challenge with 10(3) CFU of MAC (coinfection 2). During coinfection 2 experiments, the phenotypic alterations in blood lymphocyte subsets were analyzed. During coinfection 1, LP-BM5 infection tended to decrease the mycobacterial growth, with the difference reaching statistical significance for the lower inoculum (10(3) CFU of MAC) (P<0.001). During coinfection 2, LP-BM5 did not exacerbate MAC infection except in the spleen, at day 90 after LP-BM5 challenge (P<0.001). LP-BM5 infection and the LP-BM5-MAC coinfection increased the numbers of activated CD4+ lymphocytes (CD4+ Ly6AE+) (P<0.001), activated CD8+ lymphocytes (CD8+ Ly6AE+) (P<0.001), and activated B lymphocytes (Ly5+ Ly6AE+) (P<0.001). This activation of T lymphocytes could explain the lack of exacerbation of MAC infection and even the trend to a lower level of MAC infection. Thus, this model of retroviral infection of mice does not seem to be a reliable model of immunodepression for the study of MAC infection and its treatments. 相似文献

This paper illustrates a new object-oriented segmentation algorithm based on the cellular neural network (CNN) paradigm. The approach, which exploits rigorous model of the image contours, presents two remarkable features: 1) it provides more accurate segmented objects than the ones obtained by other CNN-based techniques; 2) it makes use of CNN templates that take into account the hardware characteristics imposed by the CNNUM. Faster adjustment of O2 delivery does not affect V(O2) on-kinetics in isolated in situ canine muscle

The mechanism(s) limiting muscle O2 uptake (VO2) kinetics was investigated in isolated canine gastrocnemius muscles (n = 7) during transitions from rest to 3 min of electrically stimulated isometric tetanic contractions (200-ms trains, 50 Hz; 1 contraction/2 s; 60-70% of peak V(O2)). Two conditions were mainly compared: 1) spontaneous adjustment of blood flow (Q) [control, spontaneous Q (C Spont)]; and 2) pump-perfused Q, adjusted approximately 15 s before contractions at a constant level corresponding to the steady-state value during contractions in C Spont [faster adjustment of O2 delivery (Fast O2 Delivery)]. During Fast O2 Delivery, 1-2 ml/min of 10(-2) M adenosine were infused intra-arterially to prevent inordinate pressure increases with the elevated Q. The purpose of the study was to determine whether a faster adjustment of O2 delivery would affect V(O2) kinetics. Q was measured continuously; arterial (Ca(O2)) and popliteal venous (Cv(O2)) O2 contents were determined at rest and at 5- to 7-s intervals during contractions; O2 delivery was calculated as Q x Ca(O2), and V(O2) was calculated as Q x arteriovenous O2 content difference. Times to reach 63% of the difference between baseline and steady-state VO2 during contractions were 23.8 +/- 2.0 (SE) s in C Spont and 21.8 +/- 0.9 s in Fast O2 Delivery (not significant). In the present experimental model, elimination of any delay in O2 delivery during the rest-to-contraction transition did not affect muscle V(O2) kinetics, which suggests that this kinetics was mainly set by an intrinsic inertia of oxidative metabolism. 相似文献
