The Hammett equation correlates the effects of Y on many different chemical properties of YC(6)H(4)ZX families of compounds. One of the most surprising is that the Z-X bond dissociation enthalpy (BDE), a homolytic property, can be correlated for some 4-YC(6)H(4)ZX families with electrophilic substituent constants, sigma(p)(+)(Y), which were largely derived from the rates of the heterolytic S(N)1 solvolyses of para-substituted cumyl chlorides. Although there is no Hammett correlation of the C-X BDEs in 4-YC(6)H(4)CH(2)X (X = H, halide, OPh) families, there are good correlations of N-X BDEs with sigma(p)(+)(Y) in 4-YC(6)H(4)NHX (X = H, CH(3), OH, F) and excellent correlations of O-X BDEs with sigma(p)(+)(Y) in 4-YC(6)H(4)OX (X = H, CH(3), CH(2)Ph) families. This article is considered relevant because: 1) car driving is an everyday and safety-critical task; 2) simulators are used to an increasing extent for driver training (related topics: training, virtual reality, human-machine interaction); 3) the article addresses relationships between performance in the simulator and driving test results--a relevant topic for those involved in driver training and the virtual reality industries; 4) this article provides new insights about individual differences in young drivers' behaviour. Simulators are being used to an increasing extent for driver training, allowing for the possibility of collecting objective data on driver proficiency under standardised conditions. However, relatively little is known about how learner drivers' simulator measures relate to on-road driving. This study proposes a theoretical framework that quantifies driver proficiency in terms of speed of task execution, violations and errors. This study investigated the relationships between these three measures of learner drivers' (n=804) proficiency during initial simulation-based training and the result of the driving test on the road, occurring an average of 6 months later. A higher chance of passing the driving test the first time was associated with making fewer steering errors on the simulator and could be predicted in regression analysis with a correlation of 0.18. Additionally, in accordance with the theoretical framework, a shorter duration of on-road training corresponded with faster task execution, fewer violations and fewer steering errors (predictive correlation 0.45). Every new innovation in computing-distributed computing on the Internet, data mining, Java programming, and multimedia data streams-requires more cycles and computing power. Even traditional applications such as databases and numerically intensive codes present increasing problem sizes that drive demand for higher performance. Design innovations, compiler technology, manufacturing process improvements, and integrated circuit advances have been driving exponential performance increases in microprocessors. In this paper we investigate the relation between architectural support for Prolog and performance. We will show that partial support for tags does perform as well as full support, but it only reduces the execution time by approximately 10%. With respect to special addressing modes, auto address modification (post/pre increment, decrement on loads and stores) only yields a cycle reduction of approximately 6% and the introduction of a single shadow register set yields around 8%. Combining these optimizations, a performance gain of 20 to 25% can be achieved, depending on the memory system. Usingvliw techniques, which exploit instruction-level parallelism, the performance can be doubled, using three processing elements. Two processing elements already provide a significant speedup, but the use of four processing elements is not justified if we compare the gain in performance with the cost of the extra hardware. In general we observe only a small performance improvement (around 20%) when moving fromrisc to special-purposerisc architectures, an improvement which can also be achieved by applying advanced compiler technology, such as compiler optimization, optimizations forwam, and optimal scheduling techniques forvliw architectures. Unfortunately these hardware and software effects do not add up, as a better compiler reduces the effect of hardware support. Mood can influence our everyday behaviour and people often seek to reinforce, or to alter their mood, for example by turning on music. Music listening while driving is a popular activity. However, little is known about the impact of music listening while driving on physiological state and driving performance. In the present experiment, it was investigated whether individually selected music can induce mood and maintain moods during a simulated drive. In addition, effects of positive, negative, and no music on driving behaviour and physiological measures were assessed for normal and high cognitive demanding rides. Subjective mood ratings indicated that music successfully maintained mood while driving. Narrow lane width drives increased task demand as shown in effort ratings and increased swerving. Furthermore, respiration rate was lower during music listening compared to rides without music, while no effects of music were found on heart rate. Overall, the current study demonstrates that music listening in car influences the experienced mood while driving, which in turn can impact driving behaviour. PRACTITIONERS SUMMARY: Even though it is a popular activity, little is known about the impact of music while driving on physiological state and performance. We examined whether music can induce moods during high and low simulated drives. The current study demonstrates that in car music listening influences mood which in turn can impact driving behaviour. The current study shows that listening to music can positively impact mood while driving, which can be used to affect state and safe behaviour. Using detailed micro-level survey data for three advanced European welfare-state economies (Germany, Netherlands and UK), our analyses suggest a fairly common hierarchy to homeownership, according to partnership status, exists. In all three countries, a variety of interrelated factors appear to encourage greater propensities for homeownership amongst co-residential households (married/cohabiting), as compared to single-person households. However, important macro-contextual differences do appear to play a significant role in mediating the magnitude of difference within this hierarchy. For instance, in Germany the importance of marriage as a predictor of homeownership is found to be particularly strong, with married couples having far higher propensities for homeownership, even when compared to non-married cohabiters. In the Netherlands and UK, where an emphasis on traditional family and marriage is less pronounced, and where homeownership is generally more popular and accessible, the differentiation between married/unmarried partners is greatly reduced. Furthermore, we find no evidence to suggest that living-apart-together partners are more/less likely to own their home than singles. 相似文献

Resilient cows are minimally affected in their functioning by infections and other disturbances, and recover quickly. Herd management is expected to have an effect on disturbances and the resilience of cows, and this effect was investigated in this study. Two resilience indicators were first recorded on individual cows. The effect of herd-year on these resilience indicators was then estimated and corrected for genetic and year-season effects. The 2 resilience indicators were the variance and the lag-1 autocorrelation of daily milk yield deviations from an expected lactation curve. Low variance and autocorrelation indicate that a cow does not fluctuate much around her expected milk yield and is, thus, subject to few disturbances, or little affected by disturbances (resilient). The herd-year estimates of the resilience indicators were estimated for 9,917 herd-year classes based on records of 227,655 primiparous cows from 2,644 herds. The herd-year estimates of the resilience indicators were then related to herd performance variables. Large differences in the herd-year estimates of the 2 resilience indicators (variance and autocorrelation) were observed between herd-years, indicating an effect of management on these traits. Furthermore, herd-year classes with a high variance tended to have a high proportion of cows with a rumen acidosis indication (r = 0.31), high SCS (r = 0.19), low fat content (r = ?0.18), long calving interval (r = 0.14), low survival to second lactation (r = ?0.13), large herd size (r = 0.12), low lactose content (r = ?0.12), and high production (r = 0.10). These correlations support that herds with high variance are not resilient. The correlation between the variance and the proportion of cows with a rumen acidosis indication suggests that feed management may have an important effect on the variance. Herd-year classes with a high autocorrelation tended to have a high proportion of cows with a ketosis indication (r = 0.14) and a high production (r = 0.13), but a low somatic cell score (r = ?0.17) and a low proportion of cows with a rumen acidosis indication (r = ?0.12). These correlations suggest that high autocorrelation at herd level indicates either good or poor resilience, and is thus a poor resilience indicator. However, the combination of a high variance and a high autocorrelation is expected to indicate many fluctuations with slow recovery.
