Single-phase Yb α-SiAlON ceramics in-situ toughened by elongated grains were prepared by pressureless sintering, with the crystalline powder prepared by combustion
synthesis used as seed crystals. The effects of seed addition on the densification, phase transformation, microstructure development,
and mechanical properties of the samples were investigated in detail. From the experimental results, it was found that the
added seed crystals could promote the phase transformation and facilitate the growth of elongated grains. By adding seed crystals
the fracture toughness of the sintered α-SiAlON ceramics was considerably improved, with no obvious degradation in the bulk

We use the global collocation method, the first and the third-order shear deformation plate theories, the Mori–Tanaka technique to homogenize material properties, and approximate the trial solution with multiquadric radial basis functions to analyze free vibrations of functionally graded plates. We present an experimental approach to systematically produce nanostructures with various grain sizes and twin densities in
the Ni-Co binary system. Using electrodeposition with various applied current densities and organic additive contents in the
deposition bath, we synthesize nanostructured fcc and hcp solid solutions with a range of compositions. Due to the low stacking
fault energy (SFE) of these alloys, growth twins are readily formed during deposition, and by adjusting the deposition conditions,
a range of twin boundary densities is possible. The resulting nanostructured alloys cannot be described by a single characteristic
length scale, but instead must be characterized in terms of (1) a true grain size pertaining to general high-angle grain boundaries
and (2) an effective grain size that incorporates twin boundaries. Analysis of Hall-Petch strength scaling for these materials
is complicated by their dual length scales, but the hardness trends found in Ni-80Co are found to be roughly in line with

This note proposes a model predictive control (MPC) algorithm for the solution of a robust control problem for continuous-time systems. Discontinuous feedback strategies are allowed in the solution of the min-max problems to be solved. The use of such strategies allows MPC to address a large class of nonlinear systems, including among others nonholonomic systems. Robust stability conditions to ensure steering to a certain set under bounded disturbances are established. The use of bang-bang feedbacks described by a small number of parameters is proposed, reducing considerably the computational burden associated with solving a differential game. Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) is now commonly used in clinical research to monitor microvascular blood flow. However, the dependence of the LDF signal on the microvascular architecture is still unknown. That is why we propose a new laser Doppler flowmeter for depth dependent monitoring of skin microvascular perfusion. This new laser Doppler flowmeter combines for the first time, in a device, several wavelengths and different spaced detection optical fibres. The calibration of the new apparatus is herein presented together with in vivo validation. Two in vivo validation tests are performed. In the first test, signals collected in the ventral side of the forearm are analyzed; in the second test, signals collected in the ventral side of the forearm are compared with signals collected in the hand palm. There are good indicators that show that different wavelengths and fibre distances probe different skin perfusion layers. However, multiple scattering may affect the results, namely the ones obtained with the larger fibre distance. Immunotherapy has brought hope to the fight against glioblastoma, but its efficacy remains unclear. We present the case of CST, a 25-year-old female patient with a large right-hemisphere glioblastoma treated with a dendritic–tumor cell fusion vaccine. CST showed a near-complete tumor response, with a marked improvement in her functional status and simultaneous increases in tumor-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. Two months before recurrence, the frequency of tumor-specific T cells decreased, while that of IL-17 and CD4+ T cells increased. CST passed away 15 months after enrollment. In this illustrative case, the tumor-specific CD4+ T-cell numbers and phenotype behaved as treatment efficacy biomarkers, highlighting the key role of the latter in glioblastoma immunotherapy. 相似文献

Curcumin has been suggested as a promising treatment for metabolic diseases, but the high doses required limit its therapeutic use. In this study, a new curcuminoid is synthesised to increase curcumin anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential and to achieve hypoglycaemic and protective vascular effects in type 2 diabetic rats in a lower dose. In vitro, the anti-inflammatory effect was determined through the Griess reaction, and the antioxidant activity through ABTS and TBARS assays. In vivo, Goto-Kakizaki rats were treated for 2 weeks with the equimolar dose of curcumin (40 mg/kg/day) or curcuminoid (52.4 mg/kg/day). Fasting glycaemia, insulin tolerance, plasma insulin, insulin signalling, serum FFA, endothelial function and several markers of oxidative stress were evaluated. Both compounds presented a significant anti-inflammatory effect. Moreover, the curcuminoid had a marked hypoglycaemic effect, accompanied by higher GLUT4 levels in adipose tissue. Both compounds increased NO-dependent vasorelaxation, but only the curcuminoid exacerbated the response to ascorbic acid, consistent with a higher decrease in vascular oxidative and nitrosative stress. SOD1 and GLO1 levels were increased in EAT and heart, respectively. Altogether, these data suggest that the curcuminoid developed here has more pronounced effects than curcumin in low doses, improving the oxidative stress, endothelial function and glycaemic profile in type 2 diabetes. 相似文献

Immobilization and hybridization of oligonucleotides or specific-gene PCR product (DENV-1), a conserved genomic sequence of the dengue virus, onto graphite electrode modified with poly(4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid), were carried out with success using both direct electrochemical oxidation of guanine or redox electroactive indicator ethidium bromide.Studies of oligonucleotides hybridization with the complementary target showed a decrease of both guanosine and adenosine current peaks, when compared with the peak previously obtained before the hybridization. Immobilized ssDNA, DENV-1, was hybridized with various concentrations of target DNA. The interaction between DENV-1 hybridized onto the modified graphite electrodes surface and the intercalator, ethidium bromide, was observed by differential pulse voltammetry, monitoring the current change generated to the DNA intercalator accumulated onto the modified electrode after DNA hybridization. For the determination of complementary target, the proposed method exhibited a good dynamic range (12–42 nmol L? 1) and a low detection limit (7.12 nmol L? 1).AFM images showed that the oligonucleotides or single-stranded DNA, DENV-1, before hybridization, had roughness values lower than the double stranded obtained after hybridization.The new surface obtained in these work, as well as the possibility of utilization of the same to monitor hybridization events is a promising strategy for the development of DNA electrochemical biosensors. 相似文献

The wavelet transform, which has had a growing importance in signal and image processing, has been generalized by association with both the wavelet transform and the fractional Fourier transform. Possible implementations of the new transformation are in image compression, image transmission, transient signal processing, etc. Computer simulations demonstrate the abilities of the novel transform. The performance of a twin screw compressor operating under wet (two-phase) compression conditions in an ammonia–water compression absorption heat pump cycle is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The paper reports on the influence of the location of liquid intake or, depending what applies, injection angle and mass flow rate of the injected liquid on compressor performance. Labyrinth seals separate the oil-free process side from oil lubricated bearing housing. Labyrinth seals leakage is modelled and its impact on performance is theoretically and experimentally investigated. The need for liquid injection from the discharge side to obtain acceptable performance is discussed based on experimental results. 相似文献
