Starting from a commercial slurry of high purity α-Al2O3, freeze-dried powders, cast, filter-pressed or cold isostatically pressed samples were produced. Resulting powders or green bodies showing different particles packing were densified by spark plasma sintering (SPS) to obtain transparent polycrystalline α-Al2O3. Microstructure and real in-line transmittance (RIT) after SPS were dependent on the particles packing quality. Avoiding large agglomerates, narrowing the pore size distribution, reducing the most-frequent pore size (Dmode) and avoiding macroscopic heterogeneities within the green bodies enabled high RIT values to be achieved in the visible and near-infrared spectrum. However, a limit was achieved in the preparation of green bodies for which reducing the Dmode had no more influence on the optical behaviour of samples sintered by SPS. Finally, pure α-Al2O3 samples presenting a high RIT640 nm value of 53% were produced from all the green bodies obtained by the following techniques: filter-pressing, slip casting and cold isostatic pressing. 相似文献

The use of natural additives, with low toxicity and good compatibility, for PVC is becoming increasingly attractive. In this study, soybean oil additives were prepared by air oxidation reactions and blending with PVC. The oxidation reaction produced a significant increase in the number of hydroxyl groups in soybean oil; however, this kind of reaction results in the formation of a heterogeneous structure due to free radical reactions in the medium. The oxidized soybean oil improved the compatibility with PVC due to an increase in the number of polar groups, such as hydroxyls, and thus a reduction in the amount of atactic polymer was observed. Furthermore, an increase in the molecular weight of the oxidized oil, as well as large amounts of polar groups contributes to reducing the migration of oil in the PVC. Regarding the crystallinity of PVC, the use of pure and oxidized soybean oil causes small changes in the crystalline phase of the polymer. Polylactide (PLA) is the most used biodegradable and biobased food packaging polymer for rigid containers and films. However, its low ductility is a hurdle for increasing its applications in flexible food packaging. A solution is the use of additives. Palm oil deodorizer distillate (PODC) is revealed to be an excellent additive promoting PLA ductility. PODC is a by‐product of vegetable oil refining, which is available in stable quality and in sufficient amounts. Amorphous PLA/PODC blends had an elongation at break of around 130% and that of semi‐crystalline blends was still around 55% compared to the initial 5% of neat PLA. At the same time the PLA rigidity and high glass transition temperatures were kept. PODC was also a very efficient processing aid, allowing for film blow extrusion. The blends were stable in properties during six months without exudation. They complied with legal norms of Food Contact Materials (EU 10/2011) and induced no sensorial alteration of packed food. Therefore PODC is a very interesting alternative to common plasticizers for the production of flexible PLA packaging films. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Ni–Mo nanocrystalline layers were electrodeposited using direct current from citrate–ammonia solutions. The quartz crystal microbalance investigation confirms that the discharge process starts with hydrogen evolution before the onset of the alloy deposition. The grain size was estimated from X-ray line broadening. It decreases when the molybdenum content is increased. It is smaller for layers deposited at pH 9.5 than 8.5. The microhardness exhibits a maximum close to 800 Vickers for Mo around 17 wt%. For higher Mo a softening is observed showing a deviation from Hall-Petch behaviour due to small grain size. In deaerated hydrochloric solutions, the layers show a large passivation domain without any pitting. The corrosion currents as well as the passivation currents, higher than for the bulk Hastelloy B alloy, decrease when Mo is increased. 相似文献

The recycling process toward the elimination of varistor wastes into new electro‐active silicon composites has been investigated. We studied the dependence of the E‐J characteristics on the aggregate content in the polymer matrix. Formulations with 40 vol.% metal oxide varistor aggregates in the 100‐200 μm range exhibit reliable nonlinear behavior with a switching voltage of 280±30 V/mm. The breakdown voltage of the composite decreases as both filler's diameter and filler's volume fraction increases in the 550‐220 V/mm and 440‐280 V/mm range, respectively. Frost is one of the most important weather related hazards for the Australian olive industry and it has caused significant economic losses during the last decade. Its impact on oil quality was significant in 2006 with more than 20% of Australian oil of that year being affected to some degree. Early frosts will normally affect the fruit leading to significant changes in the chemical and organoleptic characteristics of the oils. The aim of this work was to study the effect of freeze damage on the phenolic composition and quality parameters of oils from three different varieties: Frantoio, Barnea and Picual. Quality chemical parameters showed significant differences in oils produced from fruit that was frozen for 2 and 4 weeks. Those chemical parameters were not significantly different in the oil produced from fruit immediately after being frosted. Nonetheless, the sensorial profile and the polyphenols showed significant changes even with oils produced within a short time after the freezing event. Mechanical forces acting on cell–cell adhesion modulate the barrier function of endothelial cells. The actively remodeled actin cytoskeleton impinges on cell–cell adhesion to counteract external forces. We applied stress on endothelial monolayers by mechanical stretch to uncover the role of BRAF in the stress-induced response. Control cells responded to external forces by organizing and stabilizing actin cables in the stretched cell junctions. This was accompanied by an increase in intercellular gap formation, which was prevented in BRAF knockdown monolayers. In the absence of BRAF, there was excess stress fiber formation due to the enhanced reorganization of actin fibers. Our findings suggest that stretch-induced intercellular gap formation, leading to a decrease in barrier function of blood vessels, can be reverted by BRAF RNAi. This is important when the endothelium experiences changes in external stresses caused by high blood pressure, leading to edema, or by immune or cancer cells in inflammation or metastasis. 相似文献
