The properties of concrete using coconut shell as coarse aggregate were investigated in an experimental study. Compressive, flexural, splitting tensile strengths, impact resistance and bond strength were measured and compared with the theoretical values as recommended by the standards. For the selected mix, two different water–cement ratios have been considered to study the effect on the flexural and splitting tensile strengths and impact resistance of coconut shell concrete. The bond properties were determined through pull-out test. Coconut shell concrete can be classified under structural lightweight concrete. The results showed that the experimental bond strength of coconut shell concrete is much higher than the bond strength as estimated by BS 8110 and IS 456:2000 for the mix selected. 相似文献

Generally, inventory control policies for deteriorating items are very sensitive to different marketing policies especially in chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries. Realizing the importance of such inventory policies in practice, an integrated production-inventory-marketing model is developed for determining the economic production quantity (EPQ) and economic order quantity (EOQ) for raw materials in a multi-stage production system. This model considers the effect of different marketing policies such as the price per unit product and the advertisement frequency on the demand of a perishable item. Loop flexibility in enzymes plays a vital role in correctly positioning catalytically important residues. This strong relationship between enzyme flexibility and function provides an opportunity to engineer new substrates and inhibitors. It further allows the design of site-directed mutagenesis experiments to explore enzymatic activity through the control of flexibility of a functional loop. Earlier, we described a novel mechanism in which a small loop triggers the motions of a functional loop in three enzymes (beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase, lipase, and enolase) unrelated in sequence, structure, or function. Here, we further address the question of how the interactions between various flexible loops modulate the movements of the functional loop. We examine beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase as a model system in which a Long loop undergoes a large conformational change (moves in space up to 20 A) upon substrate binding in addition to a small loop (Trp loop) that shows a considerably smaller conformational change. Our molecular-dynamics simulations carried out in implicit and explicit solvent show that, in addition to these two loops, two other neighboring loops are also highly flexible. These loops are in contact with either the Long loop or the Trp loop. Analysis of the covariance of the spatial displacement of the residues reveals that coupled motions occur only in one of these two loops. Sequence analysis indicates that loops correlated in their motions also have highly conserved residues involved in the loop-loop interactions. Further, analysis of crystal structures and simulations in explicit water open the possibility that the Trp loop that triggers the movement of the Long loop in the unbound conformation may also play the same role in the substrate-bound conformation through its contact with the conserved and correlated third loop. Our proposition is supported by the observation that four of the five conserved positions in the third loop are at the interface with the Trp loop. Evolution appears to select residues that drive the functional Long loop to a large conformational change. These observations suggest that altering selected loop-loop interactions might modulate the movements of the functional loop. 相似文献

Effect of frozen storage on physical properties of pasta filata and nonpasta filata Mozzarella cheeses 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The effects of 1) ripening 2, 7, and 14 d at 7 degrees C before freezing; 2) tempering 7, and 14 d at 7 degrees C after freezing; and 3) frozen storage for 1 and 4 wk at -20 degrees C, on the meltability, stretchability, and microstructure of pasta filata and nonpasta filata Mozzarella cheeses were investigated. Cheeses were cut into 5 x 10 x 7-cm blocks and vacuum-sealed 1 d after manufacture. The results were compared to the corresponding results obtained with unfrozen control samples, aged at 7 degrees C between 2 and 21 d. The changes in physical properties of frozen-stored pasta filata and nonpasta filata Mozzarella cheeses were consistent with critical damage to the cheese microstructure as compared to the unfrozen control samples. Generally, aging before and tempering after freezing resulted in increased meltability of both frozen-stored pasta filata and nonpasta filata Mozzarella cheeses. The stretchability of frozen-stored pasta filata Mozzarella cheese increased during tempering, but that of nonpasta filata Mozzarella cheese decreased during aging and tempering. In most cases, one-week frozen stored pasta filata Mozzarella cheese had higher meltability and stretchability than 4-wk frozen-stored sample. For 1-wk frozen-stored nonpasta filata Mozzarella cheese, the meltability increased but stretchability decreased when it was frozen-stored for 4 wk. 相似文献

This study is concerned with the problem of non fragile synchronisation of mixed delayed neural networks with randomly occurring controller gain fluctuations. By using a novel mathematical approach and considering the neuron activation functions, improved delay-dependent stability results are formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). An augmented new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) that contains double and triple integral terms is constructed to ensure the asymptotic stability of the error system which guarantees the master system synchronise with the slave system. The effect of ozone on Aspergillus niger causing black rot disease in onion was studied in culture. Ozone induced the spore germination in all treatments and few spores showed rapid swelling, resulting in the production of 2-3 germ tubes per spore compared to control. Although all the ozone treated spores germinated, all of them did not produce uniform colony morphology. Some colonies which developed from ozone treated spores failed to produce spores and such colonies appeared as grey patches of mycelia without spores amidst surrounding black sporulating colonies. Further work is in progress to study the mechanism involved in formation of sterile mycelia by ozone. 相似文献

A rapid and simple approach for visible determination of mercury ions (Hg2+) in aqueous solutions was developed based on surface plasmon resonance phenomenon using L‐arginine‐functionalized gold nanorods (AuNRs). At pH greater than 9, the deprotonated amine group of L‐arginine on the AuNRs bound with Hg2+ leading to the side‐by‐side assembly of AuNRs, which was verified by transmission electron microscopy images. Thus, when Hg2+ was present in the test solution, a blue shift of the typical longitudinal plasmon band of the AuNRs was observed in the ultra violet‐visible‐near infrared (UV‐Vis‐NIR) spectra, along with a change in the color of the solution, which occurred within 5 min. After carefully optimizing the potential factors affecting the performance, the L‐arginine/AuNRs sensing system was found to be highly sensitive to Hg2+, with the limit of detection of 5 nM (S/N = 3); it is also very selective and free of interference from 10 other metal ions (Ba2+, Ca2+, Cd2+, Co2+, Cs+, Cu2+, K+, Li+, Ni2+, Pb2+). The result suggests that the L‐arginine‐functionalized AuNRs can potentially serve as a rapid, sensitive, and easy‐to‐use colorimetric biosensor useful for determining Hg2+ in food and environmental samples. 相似文献

Hydrogels composed of etherificated sodium alginate (ESA), sodium acrylic acid (NaAA), and poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were synthesized by aqueous solution polymerization. The effects of reaction variables such as terminal pH, ions, and ionic strength on hydrogel swelling ratio (SR) were determined and compared. SR was influenced strongly by pH and ionic strength. SR increased with increasing pH but tended to decrease with PVA content. At a given ionic strength, SR of ESA/NaAA/PVA hydrogel was dependent on the valence of anion; SR was higher in multivalent anion salt solution than in monovalent anion salt solution, i.e., SRK2SO4 > SRKCl and SRNa2SO4 > SRNaCl. This paper presents the findings of work performed on 20-μm diameter copper wire of five different wire types from three suppliers. Gold wire is the control. The test die was mounted on BT (B (Bismaleimide) and T (Triazine)) resin substrates. The bonding parameters were optimized for each wire used. Part of the optimization process involved monitoring the flatness of the bonded ball and the amount of aluminum remaining under the bond. The crystal structure of each type of interconnect was examined using composite imaging techniques. Visual data such as ball size, thickness, and shape were collected. First and second bonds were subjected to destructive testing, such as ball shear and wire pull, throughout the preparation process. The samples were then subjected to an industry-standard, high temperature stress test to determine the long-term stability of the interface of each wire type. Data for all read points are presented on all tests performed and provide useful information on the material and process set best suited for long term reliability. 相似文献
