Physical Activity (PA) plays an important role in the health and quality of life of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, but little is known about their PA in daily living. With the use of accelerometers it is now possible to monitor activity profiles in detail. The goals of this study are to assess feasibility and acceptance of a longer-term use of accelerometers in daily living in CF patients, study the possibility of detecting changes in PA in relation to the patients’ clinical state and compare the findings between a CF and an age-matched healthy control group. We asked 15 CF patients to wear two accelerometers for 21 days and fill in a diary. Ten of them (age 21 to 40, mean 29.5 years) participated and delivered data that could be evaluated. We also recruited 10 age-matched control subjects. Data was processed for calculating usage time and features extracted to construct models of activity. The younger patients, particularly females, were concerned with fashion and style and considered wearing the sensors a challenge. Overall, the compliance of patients with CF seemed to be lower than reported for elder subjects in the literature. Time-series analysis of the data indicated characteristic patterns of PA over time, provided that data pre-processing and noise-filtering had been optimized. Further studies have to assess whether the continuous recording of PA yields additional clinical information in CF and in particular, whether it is possible to detect or even predict exacerbations in patients with CF or other diseases.  相似文献

The grouting results for a tunnel at a depth of 450 m in crystalline rock at Äspö HRL were studied. The aims were to investigate whether the methodology used resulted in a successful grouting design and producing a sufficiently dry tunnel, and whether grout penetration and inflow into the finished tunnel corresponded to the predictions. An analysis was made of data from an original cored borehole, drilled before the tunnel was constructed and mapped thoroughly with regard to fractures and transmissivities. The predicted inflow into the tunnel was calculated and found to be four times higher than the measured inflow. The latter was 5 l/min along the 70 m tunnel, considered to be a good result at the current depth. New cored control boreholes were drilled along a section of the tunnel. The inflow positions and quantities in these holes, and the positions of grout found in the corresponding cores, were compared with the data from the original borehole. It was found that at the predicted positions of larger fractures, grout was observed and there was no inflow, showing that these had been successfully sealed. At the predicted positions of small fractures, no grout was visible in the cores, and small inflows showed that the grout had not sealed these fractures. The results indicated that cement-based grout successfully sealed fractures down to a hydraulic aperture of about 50 μm but not below 30 μm. This concurs with the initial design aimed at sealing fractures larger than 50 μm.  相似文献

The 6 km tunnel under the Namntall hill is a part of the Botniabanan railway project in northern Sweden. The tunnels were excavated by means of drilling and blasting and with, for Scandinavian conditions, a normal grouting routine. The grouting is performed to reduce water ingress into the tunnel to the level defined in the contract. When the water ingress requirements proved difficult to meet, it was obvious that the geological and the hydrogeological conditions in the tunnel would dictate the work processes. A distinctive change in rock conditions influenced both grouting performance and seepage into the tunnel. The rock conditions and the grouting were quantified throughout the project and these are summarized in this paper. It can be concluded that the strongest correlation is between the water ingress, the hydrogeological conditions and the density of the zones and the conditions in and around these zones. The paper suggests a different approach to hydrogeological prognosis and the grouting process, such as distribution of grouting classes, increased mixer capacities and regular use of two grouting rounds.  相似文献

Calculation of lateral stability loads for timber constructions. Stability loads for lateral bracings are usually calculated by using a simplified method according to the standard for timber constructions. In this article two methods for an accurate calculation of stability loads for lateral bracings will be presented. The first possibility is based on the energy method and can be used for single‐span beams with continuous lateral support. Equations to determine the lateral loads for single‐span beams with constant normal forces or constant bending moments can be determined by using the energy method. Another possibility of verification is the computation of lateral stability loads using the 2nd order flexural torsion theory for a three‐dimensional loaded beam with discrete lateral supports with any support and load cases by employing the transfer matrix method. The results of both methods will be compared in several examples.  相似文献

The lateral mobility of the thiolate ligands on the surface of Au nanoparticles was probed by EPR spectroscopy. This was achieved by using bisnitroxide ligands, which contained a disulfide group (to ensure attachment to the Au surface) and a cleavable ester bridge connecting the two spin-labeled branches of the molecule. Upon adsorption of these ligands on the surface of Au nanoparticles, the two spin-labeled branches were held next to each other by the ester bridge as evidenced by the spin-spin interactions. Cleavage of the bridge removed the link that kept the branches together. CW and pulsed EPR (DEER) experiments showed that the average distance between the adjacent thiolate branches on the Au nanoparticle surface only marginally increased after cleaving the bridge and thermal treatment. This implies that the lateral diffusion of thiolate ligands on the nanoparticle surface is very slow at room temperature and takes hours even at elevated temperatures (90 degrees C). The changes in the distance distribution observed at high temperature are likely due to ligands hopping between the nanoparticles rather than diffusing on the particle surface.  相似文献

Debonding of the stem–cement interface has been implicated in the initiation of failure of cemented femoral stems. The objective of this work was to examine some of the parameters which influence the interface static shear strength, including surface finish, cement type, pre-treatments and porosity. Surface finish was found to have the greatest effect on the interface strength. Increasing the surface roughness by a factor of 100 increases the interface shear strength by a factor of 20. However, increasing the surface roughness above a certain value was found to have no additional affect. This was due to failure in the cement itself rather than at the cement–stem interface. There were significant differences between some of the different cement types regarding the interface strength. Pre-heating the stem produced a six fold reduction in cement porosity at the stem–cement interface, however, resulting in only a minor influence on the static interface strength. Generally, no significant correlation was found between the cement porosity and the static interfacial shear strength.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To investigate the influence of masking on the inter-observer variation in image quality evaluation of clinical radiographs of chest and lumbar spine. BACKGROUND: Inter-observer variation is a big problem in image quality evaluation since this variation is often much bigger than the variation in image quality between, for example, two radiographic systems. In this study, we have evaluated the effect of masking on the inter-observer variation. The idea of the masking was to force every observer to view exactly the same part of the image and to avoid the effect of the overall 'first impression' of the image. A discussion with a group of European expert radiologists before the study indicated that masking might be a good way to reduce the inter-observer variation. METHODS: Five chest and five lumbar spine radiographs were collected together with detailed information regarding exposure conditions. The radiographs were digitised with a high-performance scanner and five different manipulations were performed, simulating five different exposure conditions. The contrast, noise and spatial resolution were manipulated by this method. The images were printed onto the film and the individual masks were produced for each film, showing only the parts of the images that were necessary for the image quality evaluation. The quality of the images was evaluated on ordinary viewing boxes by a large group of experienced radiologists. The images were examined with and without the masks with a set of image criteria (if fulfilled, 1 point; and not fulfilled, 0 point), and the mean score was calculated for each simulated exposure condition. RESULTS: The results of this study indicate that-contrary to what was supposed-the inter-observer variation increased when the images were masked. In some cases, especially for chest, this increase was statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results of this study, image masking in studies of fulfilment of image criteria cannot be recommended.  相似文献

A method for simulating forward wavefront propagation in heterogeneous tissue is discussed. The intended application of this method is for the study of aberration produced when performing ultrasound imaging through a layer of soft tissue. A one-way wave equation that permits smooth variation in all acoustically important variables is derived. This equation also describes tissue exhibiting nonlinear elasticity and arbitrary frequency-dependent relaxation. A numerical solution to this equation is found by means of operator splitting and propagation along the spatial depth coordinate. The numerical solution is accurate when compared to analytical solutions for special cases, and when compared to numerical solutions of the full wave equation by other methods. The presented implementation provides a fast numerical method for studying the impact of aberration in medical ultrasound imaging through soft tissue--both on the transmitted beam and the nonlinearly generated harmonic beam.  相似文献

Flying insects have evolved sophisticated sensory–motor systems, and here we argue that such systems are used to keep upright against intrinsic flight instabilities. We describe a theory that predicts the instability growth rate in body pitch from flapping-wing aerodynamics and reveals two ways of achieving balanced flight: active control with sufficiently rapid reactions and passive stabilization with high body drag. By glueing magnets to fruit flies and perturbing their flight using magnetic impulses, we show that these insects employ active control that is indeed fast relative to the instability. Moreover, we find that fruit flies with their control sensors disabled can keep upright if high-drag fibres are also attached to their bodies, an observation consistent with our prediction for the passive stability condition. Finally, we extend this framework to unify the control strategies used by hovering animals and also furnish criteria for achieving pitch stability in flapping-wing robots.  相似文献

Cranes have come to symbolize building construction itself. They perform indispensable services in moving materials and components vertically and horizontally. Used since antiquity, their history is interrelated with the development of new power sources that replaced man and mule, first steam and later internal combustion, diesel, and electric engines. Mobile cranes can be rapidly deployed to lift heavy loads. New models with telescoping booms and all-terrain travel capability, compact urban machines, and even hybrids with tower cranes are beginning to replace the familiar lattice boom truck cranes. Mobile cranes have dominated the North American market, but a cultural change appears to be taking place toward tower cranes for building projects. Tower cranes, common in Europe for decades, are globally gaining in popularity with surging real estate developments. Ideal for dense urban environments and coming with a small footprint, they are available in a growing diversity of sizes and configurations. Sophisticated electronic controls and operator assistance devices are enhancing their safe and productive operation. While cranes occupy a central role on midrise and high-rise building projects, they operate in conjunction with other types of supporting equipment that are an essential part of the overall equipment array on today’s industrialized construction sites.  相似文献
