Smoothness is a quality that feels aesthetic and pleasing to the human eye. We present an algorithm for finding “as‐smooth‐as‐possible” sequences in image collections. In contrast to previous work, our method does not assume that the images show a common 3D scene, but instead may depict different object instances with varying deformations, and significant variation in lighting, texture, and color appearance. Our algorithm does not rely on a notion of camera pose, view direction, or 3D representation of an underlying scene, but instead directly optimizes the smoothness of the apparent motion of local point matches among the collection images. We increase the smoothness of our sequences by performing a global similarity transform alignment, as well as localized geometric wobble reduction and appearance stabilization. Our technique gives rise to a new kind of image morphing algorithm, in which the in‐between motion is derived in a data‐driven manner from a smooth sequence of real images without any user intervention. This new type of morph can go far beyond the ability of traditional techniques. We also demonstrate that our smooth sequences allow exploring large image collections in a stable manner. 相似文献

Correlated neural activity has been observed at various signal levels (e.g., spike count, membrane potential, local field potential, EEG, fMRI BOLD). Most of these signals can be considered as superpositions of spike trains filtered by components of the neural system (synapses, membranes) and the measurement process. It is largely unknown how the spike train correlation structure is altered by this filtering and what the consequences for the dynamics of the system and for the interpretation of measured correlations are. In this study, we focus on linearly filtered spike trains and particularly consider correlations caused by overlapping presynaptic neuron populations. We demonstrate that correlation functions and statistical second-order measures like the variance, the covariance, and the correlation coefficient generally exhibit a complex dependence on the filter properties and the statistics of the presynaptic spike trains. We point out that both contributions can play a significant role in modulating the interaction strength between neurons or neuron populations. In many applications, the coherence allows a filter-independent quantification of correlated activity. In different network models, we discuss the estimation of network connectivity from the high-frequency coherence of simultaneous intracellular recordings of pairs of neurons. 相似文献

The combined effects of Mn and oxygen on lignin peroxidase (LIP) activity and isozyme composition in Phanerochaete chrysosporium were studied by using shallow stationary cultures grown in the presence of limited or excess N. When no Mn was added, LIP was formed in both N-limited and N-excess cultures exposed to air, but no LIP activity was observed at Mn concentrations greater than 13 mg/liter. In oxygen-flushed, N-excess cultures, LIP was formed at all Mn concentrations, and the peak LIP activity values in the extracellular fluid were nearly identical in the presence of Mn concentrations ranging from 3 to 1,500 mg/liter. When the availability of oxygen to cultures exposed to air was increased by growing the fungus under nonimmersed liquid conditions, higher levels of Mn were needed to suppress LIP formation compared with the levels needed in shallow stationary cultures. The composition of LIP isozymes was affected by the levels of N and Mn. Addition of veratryl alcohol to cultures exposed to air did not eliminate the suppressive effect of Mn on LIP formation. A deficiency of Mn in N-excess cultures resulted in lower biomass and a lower rate of glucose consumption than in the presence of Mn. In addition, almost no activity of the antioxidant enzyme Mn superoxide dismutase was observed in Mn-deficient, N-excess cultures, but the activity of this enzyme increased as the Mn concentration increased from 3 to 13 mg/liter. Root selection of their associated microbiome composition and activities is determined by the plant’s developmental stage and distance from the root. Total gene abundance, structure and functions of root-associated and rhizospheric microbiomes were studied throughout wheat growth season under field conditions. On the root surface, abundance of the well-known wheat colonizers Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria decreased and increased, respectively, during spike formation, whereas abundance of Bacteroidetes was independent of spike formation. Metagenomic analysis combined with functional co-occurrence networks revealed a significant impact of plant developmental stage on its microbiome during the transition from vegetative growth to spike formation. For example, gene functions related to biofilm and sensorial movement, antibiotic production and resistance and carbons and amino acids and their transporters. Genes associated with these functions were also in higher abundance in root vs. the rhizosphere microbiome. We propose that abundance of transporter-encoding genes related to carbon and amino acid, may mirror the availability and utilization of root exudates. Genes related to antibiotic resistance mechanisms were abundant during vegetative growth, while after spike formation, genes related to the biosynthesis of various antibiotics were enriched. This observation suggests that during root colonization and biofilm formation, bacteria cope with competitor’s antibiotics, whereas in the mature biofilm stage, they invest in inhibiting new colonizers. Additionally, there is higher abundance of genes related to denitrification in rhizosphere compared to root-associated microbiome during wheat growth, possibly due to competition with the plant over nitrogen in the root vicinity. We demonstrated functional and phylogenetic division in wheat root zone microbiome in both time and space: pre- and post-spike formation, and root-associated vs. rhizospheric niches. A new selective differential agar medium for rapid presumptive identification of Enterobacteriaceae from water and food samples is described (EMX ID agar). By a combination of fluorogenic and chromogenic substrates, the medium detects the presence of beta-D-glucuronidase, beta-D-galactosidase, beta-D-xylosidase, tryptophane deaminase and H2S; additionally, cytochrome-oxidase and indole production can be demonstrated. This medium provides an inexpensive means for simple and rapid presumptive identification of E. coli and coliforms and for the differentiation within the Klebsiella-Enterobacter and the Proteus-Providencia-Morganella group. Furthermore, it allows to distinguish between the H2S-positive Enterobacteriaceae Citrobacter freundii, Salmonella spp., S. arizonae, Edwardsiella, Proteus mirabilis, P. vulgaris and some oxidase-positive bacteria. 相似文献

In this paper we compare the behavior of LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2, LiNi0.33Mn0.33Co0.33O2 (NMC) and LiNi0.4Mn0.4Co0.2O2 as cathode materials for advanced rechargeable Li-ion batteries. These materials were prepared by a self-combustion reaction (SCR) from the metal nitrates and sucrose, followed by calcination at elevated temperatures. The temperature and duration of calcination enabled the adjustment of the average particle size and size distribution. It was established that the annealing temperature (700–900 °C) of the as-prepared oxides influences strongly the crystallite and particle size, the morphology of the material, and the electrochemical performance of electrodes in Li-cells. Capacities up to 190, 180 and 170 mAh g−1 could be obtained with Li[NiMn]O2, LiNi0.4Mn0.4Co0.2O2 and LiNi0.33Mn0.33Co0.33O2, respectively. In terms of rate capability, the order of these electrodes is NMC < LiNi0.4Mn0.4Co0.2O2 ? Li[NiMn]O2. Many hundreds of cycles at full DOD could be obtained with Li[NiMn]O2 and NMC electrodes in Li-cells, at room temperature. All of these materials develop a unique surface chemistry that leads to their passivation and stabilization in standard electrolyte solutions (alkyl carbonates/LiPF6). Biofilms are aggregates of microbial cells that form on surfaces and at interfaces, and are encased in an extracellular matrix. In biofilms made by the soil bacterium Bacillus subtilis, the protein TapA mediates the assembly of the functional amyloid protein TasA into extracellular fibers, and it anchors these fibers to the cell surface. We used circular dichroism and NMR spectroscopy to show that, unlike the structured TasA, TapA is disordered. In addition, TapA is composed of two weakly interacting domains: a disordered C-terminal domain and a more structured N-terminal domain. These two domains also exhibited different structural changes in response to changes in external conditions, such as increased temperatures and the presence of lipid vesicles. Although the two TapA domains weakly interacted in solution, their cooperative interaction with lipid vesicles prevented disruption of the vesicles. These findings therefore suggest that the two-domain composition of TapA is important in its interaction with single or multiple partners in the extracellular matrix in biofilms. 相似文献

A model relating the combustion characteristics, particularly the regression rate, to the fuel properties in a solid fuel ramjet (SFRJ), is presented. The analysis is based on inspecting the different phenomena (e.g., chemical kinetics and heat transfer) involved in the fuel decomposition process in order to determine the rate controlling steps, and modeling the important mechanisms. Model predictions were compared to experimental findings for four polymeric fuels, showing excellent qualitative agreement in classifying different fuels, as well as good quantitative predictions of the fuel regression rates. The model can serve as a useful tool for the selection of appropriate fuels, as well as for preliminary design of the engine and mission profile prior to static firings of the final SFRJ prototype. 相似文献
