Global rise of infections and deaths caused by drug-resistant bacterial pathogens are among the unmet medical needs. In an age of drying pipeline of novel antibiotics to treat bacterial infections, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are proven to be valid therapeutics modalities. Direct in vivo applications of many AMPs could be challenging; however, works are demonstrating encouraging results for some of them. In this review article, we discussed 3-D structures of potent AMPs e.g., polymyxin, thanatin, MSI, protegrin, OMPTA in complex with bacterial targets and their mode of actions. Studies on human peptide LL37 and de novo-designed peptides are also discussed. We have focused on AMPs which are effective against drug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. Since treatment options for the infections caused by super bugs of Gram-negative bacteria are now extremely limited. We also summarize some of the pertinent challenges in the field of clinical trials of AMPs.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new algorithm for solving the localization problem of moving multiple disjoint sources using time difference of arrival and frequency difference of arrival. The localization of moving sources can be considered as a least-square problem. There are many algorithms used to solve this problem such as, two-step weighted least squares, constrained total least-square and practical constrained least-square. However, most of these algorithms suffer from either slow convergence or numerical instability and don’t attain Cramer–Rao lower bound. We introduce a free-gradient algorithm called cuckoo search which avoids the slow convergence problem. The cuckoo search provides a combined global and local search method. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better performance than other algorithms and attains Cramer–Rao lower bound.  相似文献

The concept of usage of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) is about improving the LTE system performance by increasing the capacity and coverage of the Macro cell. In this paper, a performance comparison of various packet scheduling algorithms such as Proportional Fair, Maximum Largest Weighted Delay First and Exponential/Proportional Fair is studied in detail in the HetNets environment. The key performance indicators such as throughput, packet loss ratio, delay and fairness are considered to judge the performance of the scheduling algorithms. Various strategies such as increasing the number of Pico cells in the cell edge were used in the simulation for the performance evaluation study. The results achieved through various simulations show that adding Pico cells to the existing Macros enhances the overall system performance in addition to the various scheduling algorithms implemented in Macros. For reader’s convenience, various types of graphs have been used to represent the simulation results to better understand the performance metrics of various scheduling algorithms. Simulation results shows that overall system gain has increased because of adding Picos and thereby providing better coverage in the cell edge areas and thereby increasing the capacity of the network to provide better quality of service.  相似文献

CdS is one of the highly photosensitive candidate of II–VI group semiconductor material. Therefore CdS has variety of applications in optoelectronic devices. In this paper, we have fabricated CdS nanocrystalline thin film on ultrasonically cleaned glass substrates using the sol–gel spin coating method. The structural and surface morphologies of the CdS thin film were investigated by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) respectively. The surface morphology of thin films showed that the well covered substrate is without cracks, voids and hole. The round shape particle has been observed in SEM micrographs. The particles sizes of CdS nanocrystals from SEM were estimated to be~10–12 nm. Spectroscopic properties of thin films were investigated using the UV–vis spectroscopy, Photoluminescence and Raman spectroscopy. The optical band gap of the CdS thin film was estimated by UV–vis spectroscopy. The average transmittance of CdS thin film in the visible region of solar spectrum found to be~85%. Optical band gap of CdS thin film was calculated from transmittance spectrum ~2.71 eV which is higher than bulk CdS (2.40 eV) material. This confirms the blue shifting in band edge of CdS nanocrystalline thin films. PL spectrum of thin films showed that the fundamental band edge emission peak centred at 459 nm also recall as green band emission.  相似文献

Ti/Pt as heating element for gas sensor applications was fabricated on silicon (Si) wafer substrate. The fabricated device was subjected to heat treatment at different prescribed time periods for thermal stability. The energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS) results of the device indicated that there were no Ti traces on the Pt surface after heat treatment at 450 °C for 3 and 4 h in an argon (Ar) atmosphere. A maximum temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) with a value of 2.88×10?3 K?1 was obtained for the device with 3 h heat treatment.  相似文献

Much work has focused on traffic grooming in SONET/WDM ring networks. Previous work has considered many aspects of traffic grooming, including minimizing the number of ADMs, minimizing the number of wavelengths, considering different traffic models, using different network architectures, incorporating switching capability and so on. In this work, we study traffic grooming in unidirectional ring networks with no switching capability under both uniform traffic and non-uniform traffic models to reduce electronic multiplexing costs. Based on the clustering notion, we derive a general and tighter lower bound for the number of ADMs required in traffic grooming under the uniform all-to-all traffic model. This bound reduces to special cases obtained in previous work. We also derive general, tighter, and closed form lower bounds for the number of ADMs required under two non-uniform traffic models: the distance-dependent traffic model and the non-uniform symmetric traffic model. Cost-effective multi-phase algorithms that exploit traffic characteristics are then designed and studied to efficiently groom traffic streams under different traffic models. Our numerical and simulation results show that the proposed multi-phase algorithms outperform existing traffic grooming algorithms by using a fewer number of ADMs. Our algorithms in several cases also achieve the lower bounds derived.  相似文献

Single-phase ceramics in the SrLa4?x Pr x La4Ti5O17 (0 ≤ x ≤ 4) series were processed via a solid-state sintering route. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed single-phase ceramics for all the compositions. The molar volume (V m) decreased while the theoretical density (ρ th) increased with increase in the Pr content. Substitution of Pr3+ decreased the relative permittivity (ε r) and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τ f) due to its smaller ionic polarizability (α d) and ionic radius than La3+. In the present study, ε r ≈ 54.2, Q u f 0  ≈ 7935 GHz, and τ f  ≈ ?20.3 ppm/°C were achieved for the composition with x = 2 (i.e., SrLa2Pr2Ti5O17).  相似文献

We study the degradation mechanisms of ultraviolet (UV) organic photodetectors (OPDs). Contrary to expectations, we determine that the bulk of the organic layers in UV OPDs is stable under prolonged UV irradiation, showing no detectable changes in photophysical characteristics such as photoluminescence yield and exciton lifetime and thus not contributing to the observed degradation behavior of UV OPDs. However, the results show that the organic/electrode interfaces in UV OPDs, including indium tin oxide (ITO)/organic and organic/metal ones, are susceptible to UV irradiation, leading to a deterioration in both charge injection and extraction across the interfaces. The degradation of the organic/electrode interfaces in UV OPDs is essentially induced by UV-generated excitons in their vicinity and may be responsible for nearly 100% of the photo-current loss of UV OPDs. Approaches for improving the photo-stability of organic/electrode interfaces, and thus the lifetime of UV OPDs, are also investigated. We demonstrate that the use of thin (∼0.5 nm) interfacial layers such as lithium acetylacetonate at organic/metal interfaces can significantly reduce the interfacial degradation, and the use of appropriate hole transport materials such as N,N′-bis (naphthalen-1-yl)-N,N′-bis(phenyl) benzidine at ITO/organic interfaces can greatly improve the interfacial photo-stability.  相似文献
