Zusammenfassung Unter Benutzung von Torsionsfunktionen werden Spannungen und Torsionsmomente für die reine Verdrehung von St?ben mit kreisf?rmigem Querschnitt und Dreiecksquerschnitt ermittelt. Dabei wird sowohl für elastische als auch plastische Verformung orthotropes Werkstoffverhalten angenommen.     

Growth conditions of the cubic phase cBN in boron nitride films

The nucleation and the subsequent coalescence period of the cubic phase cBN in sputter deposited BN-films is characterized by a shrinking of the film thickness. This is due to the transition of hBN into the denser cBN-phase which occurs inside a highly textured hBN base layer. The corresponding variation of the film thickness with the deposition time is described by a quantitative model. Full BN-stoichiometry in the hBN base layer is shown to be a mandatory condition for the nucleation process and the following growth of the cubic BN-phase. An increase of the substrate temperature fosters the incorporation of nitrogen into the growing film and, thus, the achievement of the stoichiometry condition.     

Obituary: Julius Segal (1924–1994).

Memoralizes the life of J. Segal who authored and co-authored 8 books and approximately 500 articles, chapters, and magazine and newspaper features in the field of behavioral science and mental health. Shortly before his death, he co-authored the 8th edition of the widely used textbood, Psychology: An Introduction . Segal was the 1st psychologist to receive the American Psychological Foundation's Science Writer's Award. In the areas of stress and coping, Segal conducted the Department of Defense's official study of the American soldier who had been brainwashed during the Korean War. Segal is noted for possessing the rare capacity to present complex scientific and professional issues in understandable language, and his writing style was graceful, felicitious, and engaging. Hydrolysis of aromatic sulphonic acids in industrial effluents. I. Hydrolysis of 7-hydroxy-2-naphthalenesulphonic acid

The protodesulphonation of 7-hydroxy-2-naphthalenesulphonic acid (F-acid) was investigated in dilute aqueous sulphuric acid at temperatures of 522–553 K. The hydrolysis of the sulpho group is irreversible and F-acid can be completely converted into 2-naphthol in a short time. The hydrolysis rate depends strongly on the temperature and on the sulphuric acid concentration; a rate equation was derived from the experimental data.
