The stabilizing effect of microgroove surface morphology on viscous drag reduction was studied experimentally in the inlet region of a plane channel flow. The stabilization is thought to be due to the ability of a microgrooved surface pattern to suppress the velocity fluctuations in the spanwise direction on a restricted portion of the wetted surface, which prevents vorticity development at the wall and consequently across the entire flow field. This smart microflow control strategy, which works successfully only under very particular circumstances, was implemented in a microgroove-modified channel flow in which the front part has a microgrooved surface topology. The results of pressure drop measurements indicate that microgrooved surfaces can effectively stabilize laminar boundary layer development, leading to a significant reduction in the viscous drag. In the rear flat part of the microgroove-modified channel test section, a maximum drag reduction of DR @ 35%{rm DRsimeq 35%} was measured. This corresponds to an overall drag reduction of DR @ 16%{rm DRsimeq 16%} at a length Reynolds number of Rex @ 106.Re_xsimeq 10^6. The drag reduction effect persisted in a narrow range of flow velocities and for the reported experimental conditions corresponds to microgroove dimensions between 1.5 and 2.5 viscous length-scales.  相似文献

An efficient implementation of the operator split procedure for boundary value solution with plastic flow computation is presented for a general form of associated plasticity model. We start with the general form of phenomenological model of plasticity where the yield criterion is not restricted to a simple (quadratic) form, and the elasticity tensor does not have constant entries. We then turn to the multi-scale model of plasticity which employs the fine scale representation of the plastic deformation along with the homogenization procedure for stress computation. We also visit the plasticity model with rate sensitive plastic response where plastic flow computation is carried out at fine scale in time. We proved herein the sufficient and necessary conditions for the proposed operator split procedure to converge, for any such general form of associated plasticity. Moreover, we presented a systematic manner for constructing the main ingredients for the plastic flow computation and the global Newton’s iteration, such as the consistent elastoplastic tangent.  相似文献

Ambient displays provide us with information in the background of our awareness. However, as each user has individual wishes and needs of how, which and when information is presented, the acceptance of ambient displays is low.In this paper we introduce an extensible architecture for personalized ambient information.We employ a notification system to extend the capability of a fixture to display more than one variable. Multiple variables can be updated by multiple information providers. Thereby, our architecture covers a broader spectrum of notifications from alarms to ambient information.We evaluate our concept within a dual-task experiment in comparison to preset notifications. The results show a level of self-interruption which is significantly lower than using preset notifications. Therefore our approach outperforms preset notifications and moves ambient displays closer to secondary displays in human–computer interaction.  相似文献

High quality computational grids can greatly enhance the accuracy of turbine and compressor cascade simulations especially when time-dependent results are sought where vortical structures are convected through the computational domain. A technique for generating periodic structured grids for cascade simulations based on the Poisson equations is described. To allow for more complex geometries, the grid can be divided into individual zones or blocks. The grids are generated simultaneously in all blocks, assuring continuity of the grid lines and their slopes across the zonal boundaries. Simple geometric rules can be employed for enforcing orthogonality at block boundaries. The method results in grids with low grid distortion by allowing both, block boundaries and grid points on physical boundaries, to move freely. Results are presented for a linear turbine and a linear compressor cascade.  相似文献

ARES (Airborne Reflective/Emissive Spectrometer) is an airborne imaging spectrometer for remote sensing of land surfaces covering the wavelength regions 0.45–2.45?µm and 8–13?µm with 160 channels. The instrument is being built by Integrated Spectronics, financed by DLR and GFZ, and will be available to the scientific community from 2005 on.

This contribution presents the design of the thermal spectrometer covering the 8–13?µm region with 32 channels of 150?nm bandwidth while a separate paper treats the instrument specifications in the solar reflective region. The spectro‐radiometric design is based on scientific requirements derived from application scenarios comprising vegetation, soils of different compositions, and mineral exploration. The corresponding emissivity spectra are input for a simulation model that calculates at‐sensor radiance spectra, resamples them with the channel‐specific response functions, adds different amounts of sensor noise to the signal, and performs a retrieval to get the corresponding noisy surface emissivity spectra. The results of the simulation study indicate that a spectral wavelength accuracy of 3?nm and a sensor noise equivalent temperature of 0.05–0.1?K are required for an accurate retrieval of emissivity spectra.  相似文献

The present paper deals with a generalization of the homogeneous multi-server finite-source retrial queue with search for customers in the orbit. The novelty of the investigation is the introduction of balking and impatience for requests who arrive at the service facility with a limited capacity and FIFO queue. Arriving customers may balk, i.e., they either join the queue or go to the orbit. Moreover, the requests are impatient and abandon the buffer after a random time and enter the orbit, too. In case of an empty buffer, each server searches for a customer in the orbit after finishing service. All random variables involved in the model construction are supposed to be exponentially distributed and independent of each other. The primary aim of this analysis is to show the effect of balking, impatience, and buffer size on the steady-state performance measures. Concentrating on the mean response time, several numerical examples are investigated by the help of the MOSEL-2 tool used for creating the model and calculating the stationary characteristics.  相似文献

We have explored the performance of the GeneMark gene identification method using cross-validation over learning samples of E. coli DNA sequences. The computations gave more accurate estimations of the error rates in comparison with previous results when a sample of non-coding regions was derived from GenBank sequences with many true coding regions unannotated. The error rate components have been classified and delineated. It was shown that the method performs differently on class I, II and III genes. The most frequent errors come from misinterpreting the coding potential of the complementary sequence in the same frame. The effects of stop-codons present in alternative frames were also studied to understand better the main factors contributing to GeneMark performance.  相似文献
