The bubble interaction mechanisms have been analytically modeled in the first paper of this series to provide mechanistic constitutive relations for the two-group interfacial area transport equation (IATE), which was proposed to dynamically solve the interfacial area concentration in the two-fluid model. This paper presents the evaluation approach and results of the two-group IATE based on available experimental data obtained in confined upward flow, namely, 11 data sets in or near bubbly flow and 13 sets in cap-turbulent and churn-turbulent flows. The two-group IATE is evaluated in steady-state, one-dimensional (1D) form. To account for the inter-group bubble transport, the void fraction transport equation for Group-2 bubbles is also used to predict the void fraction for Group-2 bubbles. Agreement between the data and the model predictions is reasonably good and the average relative difference for the total interfacial area concentration between the 24 data sets and predictions is within 7%. The model evaluation demonstrates the capability of the two-group IATE focused on the current confined flow to predict the interfacial area concentration over a wide range of flow regimes.  相似文献

A simple current-splitting network for DBR-laser frequency tuning is proposed that distributes a single control current among two tuning sections and can adjust the current distribution without yielding impedance mismatching. The rapid growth and innovation of the various mobile communication technologies have caused a change in the paradigm of internet access. Wireless technologies such as WiMAX, WiFi and UMTS/LTE networks have shown great potential in dominating the wireless access markets. The existence of various access technologies requires a means for seamless internetworking to provide anywhere, anytime services without interruption in the ongoing session, especially in multimedia applications with rigid Quality of Services (QoS) requirements. The IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover (MIH) working group was formed to develop a set of mechanisms under a standard framework with the capability to support migration of mobile users across heterogeneous networks. Therefore, the implementation of handover is extremely important in the heterogeneous network environment. In order to guarantee various QoS requirements during handover execution especially in multimedia applications, in this paper we propose a novel MIH-based capacity estimation algorithm to execute handover with QoS provision supporting both horizontal and vertical handovers across UMTS and WiMAX networks. Simulation shows that the proposed mechanism achieves lower call dropping rate (highest approximate 3% ) and higher system throughput (average 92% ) than the basic handover method does.  相似文献

In evaluating the uncertainty of the standard measuring system for lightning‐impulse high voltages, which is composed of a standard voltage divider, a digital recorder, and calibrators, step‐response tests of the standard voltage divider may be useful. In this paper, a convolution algorithm is employed to calculate the output impulse voltage waveforms from measured step‐response waveforms. The uncertainties of peak‐value measurement due to the influence of the nominal epoch, uncertainty of the peak‐value measurement due to dispersion of the AC scale factor, and uncertainty of the virtual front‐time measurement due to long‐term stability are evaluated. Furthermore, the error of the virtual front time of the output waveforms is discussed. The front part of the step‐response waveform, tT30%, does not influence the error of the virtual front time. Therefore, for the standard voltage divider, the step‐response parameters, that is, the experimental response time, partial response time, settling time, and overshoot, have almost nothing to do with the error of the virtual front time. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Removal of protein dissolved in water by batch foam separation was conducted with using ovalbumin (OA) as a model protein in the light of wastewater treatment reducing organic loading. The removal efficiency had a maximum value near the i.e.p. of OA (pH 4.6); thus, most experiments were conducted at pH 4.6. Typical experimental conditions; superficial gas velocity, U(g): 1.97 x 10(-2)-5.37 x 10(-2)cm/s; initial bulk concentration of OA, C(i): ca. 0.05-0.25 g/L; liquid volume, V: 600 cm(3). A model estimating bulk concentration profile was proposed by taking into account a mass balance of the present system. The model predicted that OA could be removed perfectly, however, was not all removed experimentally. The residual OA concentration of the bulk liquid within the column reached plateau value, which correspond to ca. 18% of the initial OA concentration. The plateau value of the bulk concentration was attained for ca. 100-500 min with U(g)=1.97 x 10(-2)-5.37 x 10(-2)cm/s. Foaming ability test revealed that the foaming limit concentration of OA at pH 4.6 was 9.72 x 10(-3)g/L. These results suggested that OA molecules could be damaged by interaction of bubble surface in the dispersed phase, since there were the residual OA concentrations over the limit concentration. To take account of this phenomena and correct the model, average surface density, X(d), which should convert protein molecule into the denatured protein molecule, was introduced. The corrected model could explain well the time profile of OA bulk concentration.  相似文献

The use of carbon cathode catalysts in polymer electrolyte fuel cells instead of the current platinum catalysts is attracting increasing attention. We claim that two factors are important for enhancing the activity of carbon cathode catalysts in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR): the formation of a nanoshell structure and co-doping with boron and nitrogen. Herein, we investigate the preparation and characterization of active ORR carbon catalysts that combine the above factors. Boron and nitrogen (BN)-doped nanoshell-containing carbon (BN-NSCC) was prepared by carbonizing a mixture of poly(furfuryl alcohol), cobalt phthalocyanine, melamine, and a trifluoroborane–methanol complex at 1000 °C. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed the formation of nanoshell structures with distorted graphitic layers and the introduction of boron and nitrogen atoms, respectively. The ORR activity was evaluated in oxygen-saturated 0.5 mol dm?3 H2SO4 using Koutecky–Levich analysis. The BN-NSCC showed an eight to ten times higher ORR activity than undoped NSCC, with an increased number of electrons participating in the reaction. Tafel analysis revealed a change in the rate-determining step caused by BN-doping. Thus, the combination of a nanoshell structure and co-doping with boron and nitrogen was found to improve the ORR activity of carbon catalysts.  相似文献

A new method to modify coordinates of detectors in any positron emission tomography (PET) system using a radioactive point source is developed. This method is based on selecting a centered detector in each detector block of PET and measuring coincidence counts between the two centered detectors in opposite detector blocks to find the coordinates of their LOR (Line of Response). Due to slight misalignment of detector positions, measured LORs may not intersect at a single point. Based on the proposed method, the coordinates of detectors can be measured with very high accuracy and the coordinate of the center of the gantry (which is normally the same as the center of field of view) can be defined correctly. The results of the application of our method to a small animal PET system (FinePET), which was recently developed at Tohoku University, Japan, are shown here. The method is expected to contribute to the design and development of PET systems which can realize a very high spatial resolution of less than 1 mm FWHM.  相似文献

Lightning electric‐field waveforms related to power line faults in winter have been identified. Most of those waveforms appear to be associated with upward lightning discharges with absolute peak currents of over 100 kA. They are quite different from common return‐stroke waveforms, and the lightning discharges which produce these characteristic waveforms are called GC (Ground to Cloud) flashes. These high‐current lightning discharges are distributed around the coastline in different ways depending on their polarities. The spatial distributions of high‐current lightning discharges around Japan are also investigated. It is revealed that the region of Honshu Island along the coastline of the Sea of Japan belongs to the area in which the density of high‐current lightning flashes is the highest in Japan through the year. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper considers product mix problems including randomness of future returns, ambiguity of coefficients and flexibility of upper value with respect to each constraint such as budget, human resource, time and several costs. Particularly, the flexibility is assumed to be a fuzzy goal. Then, several models based on maximizing total future profits under a level of satisfaction to each fuzzy goal are proposed. Furthermore, the model considering preference ranking to each fuzzy goal of constraints is proposed. Since these problems are basically formulated as nonlinear programming problems, the transformations into deterministic equivalent problems are introduced and the efficient solution methods are developed. A numerical example for product mix problem is given to illustrate our proposed models.  相似文献

In the current design of the simplified boiling water reactor, the vacuum breaker check valve is an important safety component. The vacuum breaker check valve is the only key safety components which is not passive in nature. Failure of this mechanical valve drastically reduces the passive containment cooling system cooling capability and hence containment pressure may exceed the design pressure. To eliminate this problem novel vacuum breaker check valve was developed to replace the mechanical valve. This new design is based on a passive hydraulic head, which is fail-safe and is truly passive in operation. Moreover this new design needs only one additional tank and one set of piping each to the wetwell and drywell. This system is simple in design and hence is easy to maintain and to qualify for operation. The passive vacuum breaker check valve performance was first evaluated using RELAP5. Then the passive vacuum breaker check valve was constructed and implemented in the PUMA integral test facility. Its performance was studied in a large break loss of coolant accident simulation test performed in PUMA facility.  相似文献
