Synthesis of SiC ceramic from processed cellulosic bio-precursor was investigated. Bamboo (Bambusa tulda Roxb.) plants abundantly available in the Jorhat district of Assam, India, were selected for extraction of fibers following Kraft pulping method and bleached bamboo pulp fibers were suitably cast in the form of rectangular boards. Coir fibers available in the Alleppy district of Kerala, India, were initially digested with dilute alkali, mixed with cellulose acetate solution, air dried and then hot-pressed at 140 ± 5 °C under 2.0–2.5 MPa pressure to make rectangular boards. Well-characterized processed bio-precursors were pyrolysed at ~800 °C under flowing N2 atmosphere to prepare the bio-carbonaceous preforms (carbon templates) which showed nearly uniform shrinkages in all directions. Coir fiber composite board carbon showed lower pyrolytic weight loss (~66%), higher density (0.49 g cm?3), lower porosity (~58%) and narrower pore diameter (10 μm) compared to the cast bamboo pulp fiber board carbon. The carbon samples showed perfect retention of fibrous morphological features of hierarchically grown bio-structures. Ceramization of carbon templates could be done by reactive melt silicon infiltration into porous channels at ~1600 °C under vacuum. The final ceramics were adequately dense (%theoretical density > 99%), showed negligible linear dimensional changes (indicating net-dimension formation capability), presence of crystalline Si and SiC phases and duplex microstructure with complete preservation of fibrous architecture of plant bio-structure. The Si/SiC ceramic composite synthesized from coir fiber board gave room temperature 3-point flexural strength and Young's modulus values of 121 MPa and 276 GPa, respectively. Nanomaterials, recently have found burgeoning attention in the field of agriculture, owing to the positive correlation between nanoparticle (NP) application and the enhanced nutritional status of the applied plants. A wide range of NPs, namely carbon‐based NPs, titanium dioxide NPs, silica NPs etc. has been found to influence plants in a positive way by increasing their nutrient uptake ratio, nutrient usage efficiency, among others. All these attributes have paved the way for possible improvement in plant growth, development, vigour etc. through the use of these NPs, mainly as nanofertiliser. In view of all these, it can also be concluded that in the global scenario of increased demand of food production and supply in the coming years, nanotechnology promises to play a critical role. Potassium-modified PLZT [Pb0.92(La1 – zKz)0.08(Zr0.60Ti0.40)0.98 + 0.04zO3 (z = 0.0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7)] ceramics were synthesised using sol-gel technique. An efficient and operationally simple method is developed for chemical decontamination of simulant of VX. A new chlorine bearing reagent N,N‐dichloro poly(styrene‐co‐divinyl benzene) sulfonamide was developed to deactivate the simulant of VX in aqueous medium. This decontamination reaction was monitored by gas chromatography (GC), and the products were analyzed by gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry (GC‐MS). This reagent has advantage over earlier reported reagents in terms of effectiveness, stability, nontoxicity, cost, ease of synthesis, recyclablity (collected after filtration, rechlorinated, and used for further reaction), and decontamination of simulant of VX to give single nontoxic product at room temperature. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of a chemical reaction on a free convection flow through a porous medium bounded by a vertical infinite surface
has been studied. Velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles have been obtained for different values of parameters
like the Grashof number, Prandtl number, and the chemical reaction parameter in the presence of homogeneous chemical reaction
of first order. It is observed that the velocity and concentration increase during a generative reaction and decrease in a
destructive reaction. The same is true for the behavior of the fluid temperature. The presence of the porous media diminishes

Human placental RNase inhibitor (hRI), a leucine-rich repeat protein, binds the blood vessel-inducing protein human angiogenin (Ang) with extraordinary affinity (Ki <1 fM). Here we report a 2.0 A resolution crystal structure for the hRI-Ang complex that, together with extensive mutagenesis data from earlier studies, reveals the molecular features of this tight interaction. The hRI-Ang binding interface is large and encompasses 26 residues from hRI and 24 from Ang, recruited from multiple domains of both proteins. However, a substantial fraction of the energetically important contacts involve only a single region of each: the C-terminal segment 434-460 of hRI and the ribonucleolytic active centre of Ang, most notably the catalytic residue Lys40. Although the overall docking of Ang resembles that observed for RNase A in the crystal structure of its complex with the porcine RNase inhibitor, the vast majority of the interactions in the two complexes are distinctive, indicating that the broad specificity of the inhibitor for pancreatic RNase superfamily proteins is based largely on its capacity to recognize features unique to each of them. The implications of these findings for the development of small, hRI-based inhibitors of Ang for therapeutic use are discussed. 相似文献

Describes the architecture and design of a CMOS VLSI chip for data compression and decompression using tree-based codes. The chip, called MARVLE, implements a memory-based architecture for variable length encoding and decoding based on tree-based codes. The architecture is based on an efficient scheme of mapping the tree representing any binary code onto a memory device. A prototype 2-mm CMOS VLSI chip has been designed, verified, and fabricated by the MOSIS facility. The chip has a 512×12 static RAM with an access time of 4 ns and logic circuitry for compression as well as decompression. The chip occupies a silicon area of 6.8 mm×6.9 mm and consists of 49695 transistors. The prototype chip yields a compression rate of 95.2 Mb/s and a decompression rate of 60.6 Mb/s with a clock rate of 83.3 MHz. In this article, we report electrical characteristics of devices based on oriented and unoriented films of a polymer, namely poly[3-(6-methoxyhexyl)thiophene]. The current–voltage characteristics of sandwiched devices, based on unoriented polymer, showed hysteresis behavior, while oriented versions exhibited switching characteristics, i.e. presence of two conducting states depending on sweep direction of voltage scans. The ratio between the device current of two conducting states has been as high as 105. This is comparable, if not better, than the results reported so far with complicated device architecture or doped polymeric materials. We have also demonstrated that the switching devices have an associated memory effect for data-storage applications. 相似文献
