The antioxidant behaviors of vitamin E and its analogues, 2,2,5,7,8-pentamethyl-6-hydroxychroman and 1,2-diacyl-sn-glycero3-phospho-2'-(hydroxyethyl)-2'- 5',7',8'-tetramethyl-6'-hydroxychroman, were studied in unilamellar vesicles. The two analogues scavenged aqueous radicals generated from azo compounds more efficiently than vitamin E. On the other hand, vitamin E scavenged the lipid peroxyl radicals preferentially. It is concluded that the superior antioxidant activity of vitamin E is attributed to its location suitable for breaking the chain propagation reaction.  相似文献

In the past, Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) was considered a colonizing microbe in the immunocompetent host. Today it should be considered a potential pathogen. We present a case of MAC necrotizing pneumonia in a 27-year-old man who tested negatively for the human immunodeficiency virus, had no typical granulomas, and responded rapidly to antimicrobial therapy.  相似文献

To investigate the effect of peripheral and central benzodiazepine receptor ligands on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced tumor necrosis factor (TNF) activity in mouse macrophages, three types of ligands, 4'-chlorodiazepam (pure peripheral), midazolam (mixed), and clonazepam (pure central), were compared. Midazolam and 4'-chlorodiazepam significantly suppressed LPS (1-microgram/ml)-induced TNF activity in thioglycolate-elicited mouse macrophages. In every concentration examined (0.001 to 100 microM), 4'-chlorodiazepam was the most effective agent, clonazepam was the least effective agent, and midazolam had an effect intermediate between those of the other two ligands. The peripheral benzodiazepine receptor ligands had a dose-dependent suppressive effect, and the 50% inhibitory concentrations were 0.01 microM for 4'-chlorodiazepam and 5 microM for midazolam. Concomitant use of PK 11195 (10 microM), an antagonist of the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor, reversed this suppressive effect with 4'-chlorodiazepam (10 microM) or midazolam (10 microM). PK 11195 showed this antagonistic effect in a dose-dependent manner. Intravenous 4'-chlorodiazepam (5 mg/kg of body weight) significantly suppressed LPS (100-micrograms)-induced TNF activity of sera (2 h postchallenge with LPS) from thioglycolate-treated mice. The present findings suggest that the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor plays an important role in modulating LPS-induced TNF activity in mouse macrophages.  相似文献

This paper proposes a novel multiwavelength simultaneous monitoring (MSM) circuit that uses the wavelength crossover properties of an arrayed-waveguide grating (AWG). The MSM circuit consists of an AWG, a stabilized semiconductor laser as a reference light, and logarithmic amplifiers. The AWG chip is a simple planar-lightwave-circuit chip. It functions as multiple optical filters, and make it possible to monitor multiple wavelengths simultaneously. The MSM circuit, locked to the reference wavelength produced by a semiconductor laser stabilized to the 1547.49 mn 13C2 H2 absorption line, achieved 10 MHz resolution and 30 MHz stability for 24 h in the stable polarization state. Measurement accuracy of better than 1.1 GHz can be realized even if the state of polarization of the input light fluctuates at random. In order to determine in what condition and by what mechanism gp 120 can deplete not only CD4 but also CD8 T cells, an in vitro system was established in which peripheral blood lymphocytes from healthy donors were treated with recombinant gp 120. We found that gp 120 can deplete both CD4 and CD8 T cells when they have recently been activated and are exposed to IL-2-deficient conditions. Bioassay of the Fas ligand (FasL) demonstrated augmented expression and release of soluble FasL by CD4 T cells in the supernatant of this culture. The administration of anti-FasL mAb and anti-Fas mAb, both of which exhibit neutralizing activity, completely abolished the depletion of these two T cell populations in culture. Based on these findings, we concluded that FasL depletes Fas antigen expressing CD4 and CD8 T cells by programmed cell death.  相似文献

The requirement for restoration of high capacity fibre optic cables and the new tariffs approved for INTELSAT digital services has created a requirement to develop performance characteristics for IDR carriers greater than 10 Mb/s. This paper presents the trade-offs used in this development, and estimates the coding gains needed to meet these requirements. A number of FEC schemes are evaluated and a rate 3/4 convolutional code with soft decision Viterbi decoding is selected. Voltammetric and infrared (IR) spectroscopic measurements were carried out to study adsorbed CO on two series of copper single crystal electrodes n(1 1 1)-(1 1 1) and n(1 1 1)-(1 0 0) in 0.1 M KH2PO4 + 0.1 M K2HPO4 at 0 °C. Reversible voltammetric waves were observed below −0.55 V versus SHE for adsorption of CO which displaces preadsorbed phosphate anions. The electric charge of the redox waves is proportional to the step atom density for both single crystal series. This fact indicates that phosphate anions are specifically adsorbed on the step sites below −0.55 V versus SHE. Voltammetric measurements indicated that (1 1 1) terrace of Cu is covered with adsorbed CO below −0.5 V versus SHE. Nevertheless, no IR absorption band of adsorbed CO is detected from (1 1 1) terrace. Presence of adsorbed CO on (1 1 1) terrace is presumed which is not visible by the potential difference spectroscopy used in the present work. IR spectroscopic measurements showed that CO is reversibly adsorbed with an on-top manner on copper single crystal electrodes of n(1 1 1)-(1 1 1) and n(1 1 1)-(1 0 0) with approximately same wavenumber of CO stretching vibration of 2070 cm−1. The IR band intensity is proportional to the step atom density. Thus CO is adsorbed on (1 1 1) or (1 0 0) steps on the single crystal surfaces. An analysis of the IR band intensity suggested that one CO molecule is adsorbed on every two or more Cu step atom of the monocrystalline surface. The spectroscopic data were compared with those reported for uhv system. The CO stretching wavenumber of adsorbed CO in the electrode-electrolyte system is 30-40 cm−1 lower than those in uhv system.  相似文献
