The basic characteristics of secondary electron emission (SEE) from various organic compounds have been investigated, and a channel electron multiplier with high gain and flexibility has been developed. The maximum SEE yield is higher for the aliphatic compound than for the aromatic, and is higher for the organic solid with high ionization potential. By studying the SEE yields from the electron-conductive polymeric compositions which consist of plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) and electroconductive particles (NaTCNQ or carbon black), it is shown that the SEE yield depends mainly on the characteristics of the matrix polymer and is almost independent of the addition of electroconductive particles which inherently have low SEE yields. Adding less than 5% stabilizers to these polymeric compositions has little effect on the SEE yields. A flexible channel electron multiplier (FCEM) made of the electron-conductive polymeric composition shows the following characteristics: gain ? 108 (applied voltage of 3 kV); rise time ? a few nanoseconds; background count rate < 0.1 cps; and maximum output current ? 10?6 A. As a photon detector in the vacuum UV region, the FCEM shows a threshold value of 8.4 eV for photoelectric emission. 相似文献

Piezoresistivity effect of a silicon carbide-based ceramic fiber (Nicalon family) was evaluated when a single fiber was buried at the tensile plane in a plastic rectangular bar subjected to bending to apply a stable tensile strain. Electrical resistivity change during the bending was monitored by a digital high-resistance meter. From the fracture strain, Young's modulus, and the resistivity change, the piezoresistance coefficient is calculated to be 1.6 × 10−11 m2 /N, which is in agreement with the reported value for silicon carbide single crystals and our own reported value for polycrystalline silicon carbide ceramics. 相似文献

How strong adjuvants such as complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) promote T cell priming to protein antigens in vivo is still unclear. Since the unmethylated CpG motifs in DNA of bacteria and other nonvertebrates are stimulatory for B cells and antigen-presenting cells, the strong adjuvanticity of CFA could be attributed, at least in part, to the presence of dead bacteria, i.e., a source of stimulatory DNA. In support of this possibility, evidence is presented that insect DNA in mineral oil has even stronger adjuvant activity than CFA by a number of parameters. Synthetic oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) containing unmethylated CpG motifs mimic the effects of insect DNA and, even in soluble form, ODNs markedly potentiate clonal expansion of T cell receptor transgenic T cells responding to specific peptide. 相似文献

Expression of a functional antibody fragment (Fab) using an Escherichia coli cell-free expression system has been reported previously [Jiang et al., FEBS Lett., 514, 290-294 (2002)]. The low yield of the synthesized antibody, however, limits the usefulness of the cell-free expression system, partly due to the degradation of product by endogenous proteases from the E. coli extract. To determine which proteases are responsible for the degradation, we compared the expression of a 6D9 Fab fragment under conditions whereby several protease inhibitors were added into the cell-free system. The addition of serine protease inhibitor increased the amount of the Fab fragment, indicating that serine proteases caused the antibody degradation. Therefore, several serine protease-deficient mutants of E. coli BW25113 were constructed by targeted homologous recombination. The use of extract from a double protease-deficient mutant (DeltadegP-ompT) significantly increased the amount and antigen-binding activities of an anti-HSA scFv and a 6D9 Fab fragment. These results suggest that the DegP- and OmpT-deleted mutant is a useful source of S30 extract for the production or screening of antibodies using the cell-free expression system. 相似文献

The "Sketchphone" is an audiographic communication terminal which makes it possible to transmit handwriting and speech signals simultaneously over a telephone channel. Computer simulation of a voice interleaving technique which causes little degradation in telephone conversation quality was carried out to achieve simultaneous transmission of two signals. A complete "Sketchphone" set has not yet been built, however. A graphic tablet, using a new pressure-conductive rubber sheet, has been developed for this Sketchphone system. We constructed an extreme ultraviolet microscopy (EUVM) system for actinic mask inspection that consists of Schwarzschild optics and an X-ray zooming tube. This system was used to inspect finished extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) masks and Mo/Si glass substrates. A clear EUVM image of a 300-nm-wide pattern on a 6025 glass mask was obtained. The resolution was estimated to be 50 nm or less from this pattern. Programmed phase defects on the glass substrate were also used for inspection. The EUV microscope was able to resolve a programmed pit defect with a width of 40 nm and a depth of 10 nm and also one with a width of 70 nm and a depth of 2 nm. However, a 75-nm-wide 1.5-nm-deep pit defect was not resolved. Thus, in this study, one critical dimension of a pit defect was estimated to be a depth of 2 nm. 相似文献

SiC fiber-reinforced SiC matrix (SiC/SiC) composites are expected as a high-temperature structural material for the application of aerospace and nuclear energy system due to their high-temperature stability, reduced-activation property, and excellent irradiation resistance. It was investigated the size effects of test specimen on the fracture behaviour and apparent strength of SiC/SiC tubes in order to minimize the size of test specimen, as well as to develop circumferential tensile test method for SiC/SiC fuel cladding of nuclear reactor. The tube specimens with a narrow width (less than 5 mm) represented the stable value of apparent strength. In case of wide width (>5 mm), the apparent strength of test specimen decreased with the increase in specimen width. It was observed that the fracture of the test specimen with wide width was initiated from the sides of test specimen due to the local contact between loading pin and the test specimen. It is required to use the material with high modulus as a loading pin material in order to avoid the stress concentration caused by local contact. 相似文献
