A fifth-generation SPARC64 processor is fabricated in 130-nm partially depleted silicon-on-insulator CMOS with eight layers of Cu metallization. At V/sub dd/ = 1.2 V and T/sub a/ = 25/spl deg/C, it runs at 1.3 GHz and dissipates 34.7 W. The chip contains 191 M transistors with 19 M logic circuits in an area of 18.14 mm /spl times/ 15.99 mm and is covered with 5858 bumps, of which 269 are for I/O signals. It is mounted in a 1360-pin land-grid-array package. The 16-byte-wide system bus operates with a 260-MHz clock in single-data-rate or double-data-rate modes. This processor implements an error-detection mechanism for execution units and data path logic circuits in addition to on-chip arrays to detect data corruption. Intermittent errors detected in execution units and data paths are recovered via instruction retry. A soft barrier clocking scheme allows amortization of the clock skew and jitter over multiple cycles and helps to achieve high clock frequency. Tunability of the clock timing makes timing closure easier. A relatively small amount of custom circuit design and the use of mostly static circuits contributes to achieve short development time. 相似文献

We fabricated 850-nm GaAs transverse-junction-stripe (TJS) lasers by an improved metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) and double Zn diffusion process. The high V/III ratio used during the MOCVD growth significantly reduced the intermixing of GaAs active layer and AlGaAs cladding layers. The modified process realized good confinement for both carriers and photons and smaller saturable loss. We measured squeezing of -2.8 dB (-4.5 dB after correction for detection efficiency) at a pumping rate of I/Ith≈20 from these lasers, which is in close agreement with the theoretical limit. This squeezing remained unchanged under injection locking, indicating almost perfect conservation of the intensity noise correlation among the longitudinal modes. The locations of process-induced defects in hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin-film transistors (a-Si:H TFTs), which are used as elements of active-matrix liquid crystal displays, were investigated by combining focused ion beam techniques with cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (X-TEM). The FIB technique is applied to TFT failure analysis problems, which require considerable localised etching without inducing mechanical stress or damage at fragile failure locations. We demonstrate the manner in which these techniques are used to characterise TFT defects such as pinholes and portions of the multilayer damaged by mechanical stress. A dramatic improvement brought about by the FIB technique is the increase in temporal efficiency of sample preparations. X-TEM observations also lead to identification of the fault and analysis of its cause, which in turn lead to a marked yield improvement. 相似文献

The effects of reducing solvents on the bonding process using silver oxide paste in a copper joint were investigated. Three solvent types were tested: diethylene glycol (DEG), triethylene glycol (TEG), and polyethylene glycol (PEG). The strength of the joints was assessed by fracturing, which occurred at the interface of the copper oxide layer and the copper substrate in DEG and TEG samples and at the bonded interface in the PEG sample. Analysis of the samples revealed that, in the DEG and TEG samples, the copper substrate was oxidized during the bonding process, which compromised the shear strength of the joints. In contrast, the PEG sample exhibited nonuniform sintering of the silver layer while retaining good shear strength. It was found that the combination of DEG and PEG produced optimum shear strength in the copper joint, as PEG suppressed the growth of copper oxide and DEG promoted the formation of a dense sintered silver layer. The bonding strength achieved was higher than that of the gold-to-gold joint made using standard Pb-5Sn solder. 相似文献

Using a high-temperature superconductor, we constructed and tested a model superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL). The superconductor and the vacuum interrupter as the commutation switch were connected in parallel using a bypass coil. When the fault current flows in this equipment, the superconductor is quenched and the current is transferred to the parallel coil because of the voltage drop in the superconductor. This large current in the parallel coil actuates the magnetic repulsion mechanism of the vacuum interrupter. Due to the opening of the vacuum interrupter, the current in the superconductor is broken. By using this equipment, the current flow time in the superconductor can be easily minimized. On the other hand, the fault current is also easily limited by large reactance of the parallel coil 相似文献

A key driver behind Toyota Motors’ rise to prominence has been the Toyota Production System (TPS). This pillar of the firm's competitive strength was developed over several decades. As of the late 1980s, various changes were introduced into the TPS. Some of these, such as line segmentation, the use of inter-segment buffers and high-tech automation, have been portrayed as breaks with TPS foundations. With virtually no exception published accounts on these changes stop with the situation in the mid-1990s. The yeast Pseudozyma antarctica produces a large amount of glycolipid biosurfactants known as mannosylerythritol lipids (MELs), which show not only excellent surface‐active properties but also versatile biochemical actions. To investigate the biosynthesis of MELs in the yeast, we recently reported expressed sequence tag (EST) analysis and estimated genes expressing under MEL production conditions. Among the genes, a contiguous sequence of 938 bp, PA_004, showed high sequence identity to the gene emt1, encoding an erythritol/mannose transferase of Ustilago maydis, which is essential for MEL biosynthesis. The predicted translation product of the extended PA_004 containing the two introns and a stop codon was aligned with Emt1 of U. maydis. The predicted amino acid sequence shared high identity (72%) with Emt1 of U. maydis, although the amino‐terminal was incomplete. To identify the gene as PaEMT1 encoding an erythritol/mannose transferase of P. antarctica, the gene‐disrupted strain was developed by the method for targeted gene disruption, using hygromycin B resistance as the selection marker. The obtained ΔPaEMT1 strain failed to produce MELs, while its growth was the same as that of the parental strain. The additional mannosylerythritol into culture allowed ΔPaEMT1 strain to form MELs regardless of the carbon source supplied, indicating a defect of the erythritol/mannose transferase activity. The aim of this study was to show the effectiveness of the membrane free bioelectrochemical system (BES) using three electrodes on inhibition of methanogenesis and construction of hydrogen fermentation from the artificial garbage slurry. The electrical redox-potential on the working electrode was adjusted to -1.0V (vs. Ag/AgCl) that has positive effect on methanogenesis. The redox-potential on the counter electrode was measured to be 1.6V. The pH in the effluents was 5.5-6.4. Hydrogen production rate at the cathode side was similar to that at the anode side and much higher than that calculated from current, and reached a maximum of 2445±815 (average±standard deviation) mL?L(-1)?d(-1) at an organic loading rate of 58.7g dichromate chemical oxygen demand per L d(-1). Methane production was negligible throughout the experiment. Acetate and butyrate were the main products of the fermentation using a BES; these offered favorable conditions for hydrogen production. The bacterial community in the bioelectrochemical hydrogen fermentor differed from that in the methanogenic seed sludge and included hitherto unknown species. These results show that high redox-potential on the anodic electrode and acidic pH in the membrane free BES can be utilized for hydrogen fermentation from the artificial garbage slurry by avoiding methanogenesis. 相似文献

Subfragment-1 prepared by chymotryptic digestion of myosin was applied to a column of Sepharose-adipic acid hydrazide-ATP in 1 mM EDTA, 10 mM Tris-HCL (PH 7.6), and 40 mM KCL. Ninety-nine per cent of subfragment-1 was adsorbed on the column in this medium. Fourty-three per cent of the applied protein was eluted with 6 mM ADP in the above buffer and then 52% was eluted with 1 mM EDTA, 10 mM Tris-HCL (pH 7.6), AND 0.7 M KCL. The former fraction contained g3 chain and the latter g1 chain. These fractions were apparently the same as the components, p2 and p1, respectively, isolated by ion-exchange chromatography using DEAE-cellulose (Yagi & Otani (1974) J. Biochem. 76, 365-373). No significant difference of ADP binding was found between the two fractions, both could bind about 0.5 mole per 10(5) g of protein.
