Atom transfer radical polymerization of 1‐allylindole‐3‐carbaldehyde (AIC) was studied by employing 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide as initiator in toluene. It led to controlled radical polymerization of AIC, with an increase of molecular weight along with the conversion of the monomer, and a relatively narrow molar mass distribution was obtained, as determined by gel permeation chromatography. The living nature of poly(1‐allylindole‐3‐carbaldehyde) (PAIC) was confirmed by the chain extension polymerization whereas 1H NMR analysis showed that the major population of PAIC retained the chain‐end functional group. PAIC and its silver nanocomposite were found to be biologically active against some tested bacterial pathogens. Minimum inhibitory concentration tests revealed that PAIC exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis and Klebsiella pneumonae whereas PAIC/Ag nanocomposite showed antibacterial activity against Enterococcus faecalis and K. pneumonae. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

This investigation deals with laser remelting of plasma sprayed alumina and chromia coatings. The time-temperature history of the laser remelted zone was recorded using an infrared pyrometer during the remelting operation. Cooling rates, under varying scanning speed, were determined from the time temperature curve. Surface morphology, microstructure, and phases of the laser treated and as-sprayed coatings were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, respectively. X-ray diffraction was also employed to measure the surface residual stress of the coatings. Inherent features of plasma sprayed coatings like porosity and inter-lamellar boundary were obliterated upon laser remelting. A columnar grain growth perpendicular to the laser scanning direction was observed. The range of roughness of the as-sprayed coatings reduced from 6 to 8?µm to 1–2?µm in the remelted layers. For both coatings, more than 90% reduction in porosity was found upon laser remelting. Surface residual stress of the as-sprayed alumina and chromia coatings was found to be tensile and compressive, respectively. Within the limits of the testing condition the tensile residual stress of the remelted layers increased by up to around 500% in the alumina coatings. In the chromia coating a decrease of compressive stress by up to around 80% was recorded. In the remelted layer the tensile nature of the stress showed a tendency to increase with an increase in the cooling rate. However, the state of stress of the as-sprayed layer, i.e., tensile or compressive, was retained in the remelted layer. The residual stress was found to decrease in the remelted layer with an increase in the degree of overlap of the remelted tracks.  相似文献

Energy-efficient new cooking techniques have been developed in this research. Using a stove with 649?±?20 W of power, the minimum heat, specific heat of transformation, and on-stove time required to completely cook 1 kg of dry beans (with water and other ingredients) and 1 kg of raw potato are found to be: 710 (±24)?kJ, 613 (±20)?kJ, and 1,144?±?10 s, respectively, for beans and 287?±?12 kJ, 200?±?9 kJ, and 466?±?10 s for Irish potato. Extensive researches show that these figures are, to date, the lowest amount of heat ever used to cook beans and potato and less than half the energy used in conventional cooking with a pressure cooker. The efficiency of the stove was estimated to be 52.5?±?2 %. Discussion is made to further improve the efficiency in cooking with normal stove and solar cooker and to save food nutrients further. Our method of cooking when applied globally is expected to contribute to the clean development management (CDM) potential. The approximate values of the minimum and maximum CDM potentials are estimated to be 7.5?×?1011 and 2.2?×?1013?kg of carbon credit annually. The non-similar boundary layer flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid over a moving surface in a rotating fluid, in the presence of a magnetic field, Hall currents and the free stream velocity has been studied. The parabolic partial differential equations governing the flow are solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme. The Coriolis force induces overshoot in the velocity profile of the primary flow and the magnetic field reduces/removes the velocity overshoot. The local skin friction coefficient for the primary flow increases with the magnetic field, but the skin friction coefficient for the secondary flow reduces it. Also the local skin friction coefficients for the primary and secondary flows are reduced due to the Hall currents. The effects of the magnetic field, Hall currents and the wall velocity, on the skin friction coefficients for the primary and secondary flows increase with the Coriolis force. The wall velocity strongly affects the flow field. When the wall velocity is equal to the free stream velocity, the skin friction coefficients for the primary and secondary flows vanish, but this does not imply separation.  相似文献
