Preparation of a sensor substrate using functionalized mesoporous silica on a gold film for surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy

The use of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy has been applied to a wide variety of fields such as biosensors and surface analysis instruments. In general, a SPR substrate is prepared using self-assembled monolayer (SAM) method of organic molecules as receptor for the target on a layer of gold or silver. However, mesoporous inorganic materials such as SBA-15 have benefits as sensor substrate for SPR. Mesoporous silica has a large surface area which receptor molecule can be attached and has a rigid body which has an excellent stability in the extreme condition compared to organic sensing layer. We prepared an organic modified mesoporous silica and successfully immobilized it on a gold surface, in an attempt to use as a substrate for SPR spectroscopy. For the comparison of sensitivity of prepared substrate, Pt²⁺ detection was selected as a model system. Substrate prepared in this study exhibited the capability of selective sensing for Pt²⁺ ions.     

Preparation of SnO2 whiskers via the decomposition of tin oxalate

A new method for preparing SnO₂ whiskers by the decomposition of SnC₂O₄ is suggested. A Whisker-like morphology of a SnC₂O₄ precipitate was attained via the gradual addition of an oxalic acid solution to a hot SnCl₂ aqueous solution (T > 50^∘C). In comparison, when the solution temperature was either lower than 50^∘C or when ethanol was used as the solvent, the SnC₂O₄ precipitate showed an angular and relatively isotropic morphology. The morphology of the SnC₂O₄ precipitate remained even after its thermal decomposition into SnO₂ at 400^∘C indicating that SnC₂O₄ precipitation is a key step in preparing the whiskers. The formation mechanism of SnO₂ whiskers was explained by the supersaturation during the precipitation of SnC₂O₄.

Effect of Hot Band Annealing on Magnetic Properties in 3% Si Grain‐oriented Electrical Steels

Hot band annealing is known to be a prerequisite for good magnetic properties irrespective of manufacturing methods in grain‐oriented Fe‐3 wt.% Si electrical steels. In this study, the effects of hot band annealing on magnetic properties were investigated in 3% grain‐oriented electrical steels of low soluble AI contents and one‐stage cold rolling. Microstructure and precipitate distribution were compared with hot band annealing conditions. Secondary recrystallization behaviour with hot band annealing condition was also discussed.

Extrapolation Model of High Temperature Creep for 12Cr1MoV Steel

The creep curves of heat resistant steel 12Cr1MoV was investigated. by constant stress creep tests. The creep curves of constant stress creep are quite different from that of constant load creep. The original θ- Concept Project procedure can be validated to successfully describe the constant stress creep curves but not constant load creep. A modified θprocedure was developed. This approach can successfully described both constant stress creep and constant load creep curves. The new approach leads to a great improvement in accuracy of long term prediction of extrapolation due to validation of a great number of existing constant load creep data.
