Optimal control of the effects from industrial transportation on the environment

The paper discusses optimal control of ecosystem state for observation of a generalized monotonically varying random parameter. Catalytic epoxidation of olefins in the presence of a vanadyl porphyrin complex

It was found that vanadyl porphyrin complexes synthesized from petroleum metal porphyrin concentrates stimulated epoxidation during the olefin oxygenation process. The yields of obtained oxiranes turned out to be 38–75%, depending on the olefin structure. An epoxidation mechanism that suggests the formation of a protonated dioxygen adduct as an intermediate during oxygenation of olefins in the presence of vanadyl porphyrin complexes was proposed. An analogy is drawn between the epoxide formation reaction upon the catalytic oxygenation of olefins and the Prilezhaev reaction.     

Vacuum degassing of chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel at the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine

The Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine has conducted a study of the effect of technological factors on the hydrogen content of chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel after vacuum degassing. It was established that the most important factor is the hydrogen content of the steel before the degassing operation. The study also determined the effects of the circulation coefficient, the duration of the degassing operation, and the vacuum used in the treatment. __________ Translated from Metallurg, No. 7, pp. 68–69, July, 2006.     

The anisotropic effect of a weak magnetic field on the photoconductivity of C<Subscript>60</Subscript> single crystals

The effect of crystal orientation on the photogeneration of free charge carriers was studied for C₆₀ single crystals in a weak magnetic field. The photoconductivity sharply depends on the orientation of magnetic field with respect to the crystallographic directions, showing a 5–8% increase for seven axes of the C₆₀ crystal.     

Deformation-Strength Relationships in Short-Term Tension of Heat-Resistant Materials

The analysis of 124 curves obtained in short-term tensile tests demonstrate that they can be described by varying strain hardening and softening characteristics. Different stress–strain curves can be produced at invariable yield strength and ultimate strength and interrelated proportional variations of the above characteristics. To determine some specific stress–strain curve, it is necessary to take account of yield strength and ultimate strength as well as strain corresponding to the latter. The relations between yield strength, ultimate strength and hardening and their practically complete absence between these parameters and softening were statistically established.     

Comparison of Two Statistical Models for the Calculation of Collisions of Particles in Isotropic Turbulence

Two models are given for determining the collision rate of inertial particles in a homogeneous isotropic turbulence. The advantages and disadvantages of the known models of particle collisions are discussed. One of the models suggested by us is based on the assumption that the joint probability density function of gas and particle velocities is a Gaussian distribution. The second model follows from the kinetic equation for the probability density of the relative velocity of two particles. These two models are compared with each other and with the available data of direct numerical simulation.     

Dynamic Effects of Submillimeter Wave Radiation on Biological Objects of Various Levels of Organization

We have presented an overview of the literature and of our experimental data on the influence of electromagnetic radiation in the submillimeter spectral region on biological objects of molecular, cellular, and organism levels. Possible physical mechanisms involved and the reasons for limited development of the research in this spectral range are discussed.     

Stress-strain relations in elastoplastic solids with Dugdale-type cracks

Mechanical behavior of a two-dimensional elastoplastic solid with rectilinear cracks is investigated. Plastic strip model is used to reduce plasticity problem to the equivalent linear elasticity formulation. Two realizations of the mixed mode plastic strip model are considered: in-line plastic strips as proposed by Becker and Gross [Int. J. Fract. 37 (1988) 163], and inclined plastic strips of Panasyuk and Savruk [Appl. Mech. Rev. 47 (1994) 151]. The effective mechanical response predictions are based on the procedure presented in Kachanov et al., [Appl. Mech. Rev. 47 (1994) 151]. Stress-strain relations are obtained for parallel and randomly oriented non-interacting cracks. Results are compared with known elastic solutions.     

A Digital Deformation Vacuum Gauge with an LC-Generator

The design of a sylphon bellows sensor and the basic circuits of an LC-generator and of a microprocessor unit are presented. An analytical pressure–frequency conversion function and a special method of adjusting the sensor ensure an error of less than 0.05%. The dynamic range is up to 10⁵. The instruments developed cover the ranges 10³, 10⁴, and 10⁵ Pa.
