Molecular imaging of pathologic lesions can improve efficient detection of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. A shared pathophysiological feature is angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels. Endoglin (CD105) is a coreceptor for ligands of the Transforming Growth Factor-β (TGF-β) family and is highly expressed on angiogenic endothelial cells. Therefore, endoglin-based imaging has been explored to visualize lesions of the aforementioned diseases. This systematic review highlights the progress in endoglin-based imaging of cancer, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, and aortic aneurysm, focusing on positron emission tomography (PET), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging, and ultrasound imaging. PubMed was searched combining the following subjects and their respective synonyms or relevant subterms: “Endoglin”, “Imaging/Image-guided surgery”. In total, 59 papers were found eligible to be included: 58 reporting about preclinical animal or in vitro models and one ex vivo study in human organs. In addition to exact data extraction of imaging modality type, tumor or cardiovascular disease model, and tracer (class), outcomes were described via a narrative synthesis. Collectively, the data identify endoglin as a suitable target for intraoperative and diagnostic imaging of the neovasculature in tumors, whereas for cardiovascular diseases, the evidence remains scarce but promising. 相似文献

PEGylation of antimicrobial peptides as a shielding tool that increases stability toward proteolytic degradation typically leads to concomitant loss of activity, whereas incorporation of ultrashort PEG-like amino acids (sPEGs) remains essentially unexplored. Here, modification of a peptide/β-peptoid hybrid with sPEGs was examined with respect to influence on hydrophobicity, antibacterial activity and effect on viability of mammalian cells for a set of 18 oligomers. Intriguingly, the degree of sPEG modification did not significantly affect hydrophobicity as measured by retention in reverse-phase HPLC. Antibacterial activity against both wild-type and drug-resistant strains of Escherichia coli and Acinetobacter baumannii (both Gram-negative pathogens) was retained or slightly improved (MICs in the range 2–16 µg/mL equal to 0.7–5.2 µM). All compounds in the series exhibited less than 10% hemolysis at 400 µg/mL. While the number of sPEG moieties appeared not to be clearly correlated with hemolytic activity, a trend toward slightly increased hemolytic activity was observed for analogues displaying the longest sPEGs. In contrast, within a subseries the viability of HepG2 liver cells was least affected by analogues displaying the longer sPEGs (with IC50 values of ~1280 µg/mL) as compared to most other analogues and the parent peptidomimetic (IC50 values in the range 330–800 µg/mL). 相似文献

Wall losses of condensable organic vapors are a significant complication for smog-chamber experiments designed to constrain production of Secondary Organic Aerosols (SOA). Here we develop a dynamical mass-balance model based on the Volatility Basis Set (VBS) to explore various pathways for mass transfer between the bulk of a smog-chamber volume (the vapors and suspended particles) and reservoirs near the chamber walls (deposited and/or nucleated particles on the walls, adsorption to the walls, and sorption into Teflon walls). We consider various limiting cases and explore the sensitivity of inferred SOA yields to assumptions about the actual parameters in a given SOA experiment. We also present data suggesting that adsorptive uptake to Teflon for typical SOA is modest. Broadly, we find that walls become a sink for condensable vapors when those vapors interact with either deposited particles of the Teflon walls, with qualitatively similar effects on the suspended particles. Finally, we show that having a relatively high seed condensation sink is vital to reliable chamber mass balances.

Co-Stimulation of Oxytocin and Arginine-Vasopressin Receptors Affect Hypothalamic Neurospheroid Size

Oxytocin (OXT) is a neuropeptide involved in a plethora of behavioral and physiological processes. However, there is a prominent lack of 3D cell culture models that investigate the effects of OXT on a cellular/molecular level. In this study, we established a hypothalamic neuronal spheroid model to investigate the cellular response in a more realistic 3D setting. Our data indicate that the formation of spheroids itself does not alter the basic characteristics of the cell line and that markers of cellular morphology and connectivity are stably expressed. We found that both OXT and arginine vasopressin (AVP) treatment increase spheroid size (surface area and volume), as well as individual nucleus size, which serves as an indicator for cellular proliferation. The cellular response to both OXT and AVP seems mainly to be mediated by the AVP receptor 1a (V1aR); however, the OXT receptor (OXTR) contributes significantly to the observed proliferative effect. When we blocked the OXTR pharmacologically or knocked down the OXTR by siRNA, the OXT- or AVP-induced cellular proliferation decreased. In summary, we established a 3D cell culture model of the neuronal response to OXT and AVP and found that spheroids react to the treatment via their respective receptors but also via cross-talk between the two receptor types. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Because of its extreme toxicity for microorganisms, the limonene content of citrus wastes (CWs) has been a major obstacle to the conversion of CWs to biofuels. The main objective of this study was to develop a new process for the utilization of CWs that can be economically feasible when the supply of CW is low. RESULTS: Steam explosion pre‐treatment was applied to improve the anaerobic digestibility of CWs, resulting in a decrease of initial limonene concentration by 94.3%. A methane potential of 0.537 ± 0.001 m3 kg?1 VS (volatile solids) was obtained during the following batch digestion of treated CWs, corresponding to an increase of 426% compared with that of the untreated samples. Long‐term effects of the treatment were further investigated by a semi‐continuous co‐digestion process. A methane production of 0.555 ± 0.0159 m3 CH4 kg?1 VS day?1 was achieved when treated CWs (corresponding to 30% of the VS load) were co‐digested with municipal solid waste. CONCLUSION: The process developed can easily be applied to an existing biogas plant. The equipment cost for this process is estimated to be one million USD when utilizing 10 000 tons CWs year?1. 8.4 L limonene and 107.4 m3 methane can be produced per ton of fresh citrus wastes in this manner. Optimization of the deep-UV and electron-beam lithographic properties of a copolymer of trimethylsilylmethyl methacrylate (SI) and chloromethylstyrene (CMS), P(SI-CMS), within a weight average molecular weight range of 1.4 to 4.1 × 105 and 90 to 93 mole percent SI composition has been achieved. The solubility behavior of P(SI-CMS) resist was examined using the Hansen 3-dimensional solubility parameter model and dissolution rate measurements. Swelling of the resist has been minimized through the identification of a single component developer (2-propanol) and rinse (water) system. For the material containing 90 mole percent SI (14.9 weight percent Si) and M?ω = 1.4 × 105, the sensitivity to 248 nm radiation is 65 mJ/cm2 and to electron-beam exposure is 3.4 μC/cm2 at 20 kV. This material Is applicable to bilevel lithographic processes, and the O2 reactive ion etching (RIE) rate is 16 times slower than standard hard-baked photoresist. Using a He/O2(60/40) RIE pattern transfer process, 0.4 μm line/space patterns have been resolved in a 1.3 μm bilayer structure for deep-UV exposures, and 0.25 μm imaging has been demonstrated in a 0.7 μm thick planarizing layer using electron beam irradiation. The loss in linewidth associated with the 0.25 μm process is ~0.04 μm. 相似文献

Modeling and performance improvement of folded coupled lines in miniaturized Quasi‐lumped directional couplers 下载免费PDF全文
An efficient modeling method for folded coupled inductors for application in quasi‐lumped directional couplers designed in both symmetric and asymmetric structures has been proposed. The presented model takes into account the deteriorative effects which occur when coupled inductors realized as electrically short coupled‐lines matched to the high impedance standard are folded into, for example, meander or spiral pattern. The deteriorative influence of coupled‐lines' folding on the performance of the resulting directional coupler has been modeled as additional lumped inductors and capacitors on the schematic diagram of a quasi‐lumped directional coupler's subsection. Moreover, it has been shown that this deteriorative influence can be substantially minimized when values of lumped elements constituting the directional coupler are appropriately changed. The proposed design procedure has been experimentally verified by measurements of two 3‐dB single‐section directional couplers designed in symmetric and asymmetric structures as quasi‐lumped couplers with folded coupled inductors. The measurement results show a good agreement with both circuit and electromagnetic analysis which proves the correctness and usefulness of the presented methods. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two identical (anonymous) mobile agents start from arbitrary nodes of an unknown tree and have to meet at some node. Agents move in synchronous rounds: in each round an agent can either stay at the current node or move to one of its neighbors. We consider deterministic algorithms for this rendezvous task. The main result of this paper is a tight trade-off between the optimal time of completing rendezvous and the size of memory of the agents. For agents with $k$ memory bits, we show that optimal rendezvous time is $\Theta (n+n^2/k)$ in $n$ -node trees. More precisely, if $k \ge c\log n$ , for some constant $c$ , we design agents accomplishing rendezvous in arbitrary trees of size $n$ (unknown to the agents) in time $O(n+n^2/k)$ , starting with arbitrary delay. We also show that no pair of agents can accomplish rendezvous in time $o(n+n^2/k)$ , even in the class of lines of known length and even with simultaneous start. Finally, we prove that at least logarithmic memory is necessary for rendezvous, even for agents starting simultaneously in a $n$ -node line. 相似文献
