Pulse detonation technology for removing slag and fouling deposits in coal-fired utility power plant boilers offers great potential. This technology offers a potentially convenient, inexpensive, yet efficient way for on-line slag removal. This paper presents a feasibility study that includes both Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and laboratory experiments. CFD simulations provided visual and quantitative data to study the potential mechanisms for removal of slag. Mechanisms included direct impact, flow scrubbing, wave reflection and negative velocity impact on the back side of the tubes. Several experiments were carried out to verify the potential of the pulse detonation technology. Experiments were done using a pulse detonation engine and heat exchanger tubes with different types of slag placed in different orientations on the tubes. Tubes were placed at various distances from the detonation tube and in different configurations. The results present a strong case for the application of this technology for online slag removal. It is especially effective for removal of slag on the back sides of the tubes where other traditional methods are not very successful. A preliminary cost analysis indicated that the technology can be paid for within the first year itself and provide substantial savings in the subsequent years.  相似文献

Although medical image segmentation is a hard task in image processing, it is possible to reduce its complexity by considering it as an optimization problem. This paper presents a robust evolutionary algorithm based on a cost minimization function to segment and to extract image edges. Since, the goal is to outperform a high edge detection quasi independent from the input problem characteristics, an adaptive detector is considered. As a first step, the main evolutionary algorithm parameters are highlighted based on an adaptive parameterization to overcome convergence problem. In a second stage, the reached optimal setting is applied on medical images to exhibit the quality of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

Short setup time is an essential element for the effective implementation of many lean pillars, i.e., JIT, and Kanban. Most of the current setup reduction methodologies are based on Shingo’s Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) that suggests the conversion of internal setup operations to external operations. However, the conventional SMED approach – as proposed by Shingo – does not possess a systematic approach to accomplish this conversion. Thus, a new approach is proposed in order to aid the process engineers in implementing SMED. The proposed approach is based on the conventional SMED, but also it incorporates Multiple Criteria Decision-Making Techniques (MCDM) to the third implementation phase. The MCDM techniques used in this work are Analytical Hierarchal Process (AHP), Preference Selection Index (PSI) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The proposed approach provides a systematic procedure for selecting the best setup technique among the available alternatives, and takes also into consideration other factors that affect the decision-making process; including: cost, energy, facility layout, safety, life, quality and maintenance. A real example of PVC industry is used to exemplify the approach. The results demonstrate the capability of the proposed approach in setup time reduction, which in turn will improve machines’ utilization, and increase the productivity and flexibility of the whole facility.  相似文献

Effect of Silane Coupling Agents on Rice Straw Fiber/Polymer Composites   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The effect of coupling agents and electron beam (EB) irradiation dose on the mechanical properties of composites made from rice straw fibers and polymers have been studied. Samples were made by hot pressing of mix composition at 130°C. The pressed samples were subjected to electron beam irradiation dose ranged from 10 to 50?kGy. Increasing the electron beam irradiation dose increased the value of flexural strength, modulus of elasticity and impact strength. It was also observed that, the properties of composites containing γ-aminopropyltrimethoxy silane (A-1100) are lower than those of composites containing N-(2aminoethyl)-3-amino propyltrimethoxy silane (A-700) coupling agents. These are attributed to a hydrogen bonding formation between the amine or protonated amine and the hydroxyl groups of rice straw fibers. The presence of coupling agents in the composites during the EB irradiation process produce a more free radicals which are enough to form a chemical bonding between the rice straw fiber and polymer. The thickness swelling and water absorption values decrease with increasing the EB irradiation dose with presence of coupling agents in the composite.  相似文献

In the current paper, a coupled two degree of freedom model which considers both bending and torsion of the supporting torsion beams is presented for electrostatically actuated torsional nano/micro-actuators under the effect of van der Waals (vdW) force. Newton’s second law is utilized for finding the normalized equations governing the static behavior of the actuator. The implict function theorem is then utilized for finding the equations governing the pull-in state of the actuator. The related results show that torsion model considerably overestimates the pull-in parameters of the nano/micro-actuator. The concept of the instability mode is introduced, and it is shown that when the ratio of the bending stiffness to the torsion stiffness of the supporting torsion beams is relatively low, the dominant instability mode of the actuator would be the bending mode and otherwise the dominant instability mode would be the torsion mode. It is also observed that the presence of the vdW force can significantly reduce the pull-in angle and pull-in deflection of the nano/micro-actuator. The presented results also show that the vdW force can lead to considerable reduction in the pull-in voltage of the actuator. The equilibrium behavior of the actuator is studied, and it is observed that the vdW force and also bending of the supporting torsion beams greatly reduce the maximum allowable voltage which can be applied to the actuator. Results of this paper can be used for successful design of electrostatically actuated torsional nano/micro-actuators where the size of the actuator is sufficiently small, and as a result, the vdW force plays a major role in the system.  相似文献

This study aims to determine the effects of chitosan obtained from Metapenaeus stebbingi shells on the shelf life of refrigerated gilthead sea bream. It was determined that 1% chitosan‐coated samples had the lowest thiobarbituric acid (TBA) (3.05 mg malondialdehyde (MDA) kg?1) and free fatty acids (FFA) value (2.79% oleic acid), while the control group had the highest TBA (5.08 mg MDA kg?1) and FFA value (6.13% oleic acid) on the 27th day of storage. In the last day of storage, TVB‐N was found higher in control group (25.62 mg 100 g?1) than chitosan‐coated samples (14.57 mg 100 g?1). Total viable count value of the control group exceeded maximum permissible limit on the 27th day of storage. However, it was lower than 7.0 log CFU/g in chitosan‐coated samples during the refrigerated storage. As a result of this study, it was determined that shelf life of refrigerated gilthead sea bream can be increased up to 27 days with chitosan.  相似文献

In our work, operation of hybrid desiccant cooling system (HDCS) has been investigated based on experimental studies. Different climates have been created by changing the temperature and humidity of HDCS inlet air, using an electrical heater and a centrifuge humidifier. Input energies, temperature of various points, and their relative humidity have been measured at the created climates. Coefficient of performance (COP), thermal coefficient of performance, and electrical coefficient of performance (ECOP) of the HDCS have been calculated. As a reference situation, vapor compression system (VCS) was examined at the same condition as HDCS. Results show that COP of HDCS in comparison with VCS decreased about 36% and 28% in hot-dry and hot-humid climates, respectively, which is due to the thermal energy consumption in HDCS. In contrast its ECOP increased, which means that by using HDCS some electrical energy would be saved. Defining operating cost index (OCI) parameter, operation costs of VCS and HDCS have been compared. Analyzing the OCI results shows that in HDCS, although decreasing the electricity consumption results in more usage of natural gas, these systems are economical especially in those countries with low natural gas prices.  相似文献
