A fibre optic experimental arrangement was used to determine the thermo-optic coefficient (dn/dT) of electron beam deposited titanium dioxide coatings on the cleaved end faces of multimode optical fibres for a wavelength range between 600 and 1050 nm. The temperature-induced change in the index of refraction (n) and extinction coefficient (k) were successfully determined from reflection spectra. Measurements of n and k at various wavelengths for different temperatures enabled the determination of dn/dT and dk/dT. It was found that dn/dT takes different values at different temperature ranges. For example, at 800 nm, dn/dT was (−1.77±0.7)×10−4 K−1, between 18°C and 120°C, and took a value of (−3.04±0.7)×10−4 K−1 between 220°C and 325°C. 相似文献

Flame retardancy of poly(ethylene terephthalate), PET, was improved using different flame retardant additives such as triphenylphosphate, triphenylphosphine oxide, zinc borate, and boron phosphate (BP). Composites were prepared using a twin screw extruder and subsequently injection molded for characterization purposes. The flame retardancy of the composites was determined by the limiting oxygen index (LOI) test. Smoke emission during fire was also evaluated in terms of percent light transmittance. Thermal stability and tensile properties of PET‐based composites were compared with PET through TGA and tensile test, respectively. The LOI of the flame retardant composites increased from 21% of neat PET, up to 36% with the addition of 5% BP and 5% triphenyl phosphate to the matrix. Regarding the smoke density analysis, BP was determined as an effective smoke suppressant for PET. Exosomes, nano-sized extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted from cells, carry various cargo molecules reflecting their cells of origin. As EV content, structure, and size are highly heterogeneous, their classification via cargo molecules by determining their origin is challenging. Here, a method is presented combining surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) with machine learning algorithms to employ the classification of EVs derived from five different cell lines to reveal their cellular origins. Using an artificial neural network algorithm, it is shown that the label-free Raman spectroscopy method's prediction ratio correlates with the ratio of HT-1080 exosomes in the mixture. This machine learning-assisted SERS method enables a new direction through label-free investigation of EV preparations by differentiating cancer cell-derived exosomes from those of healthy. This approach will potentially open up new avenues of research for early detection and monitoring of various diseases, including cancer. 相似文献

Abstract: Reinforced concrete (RC) is the most commonly used structural material in civil engineering applications. RC structures have long-term service lives under normal loading conditions; however, overload caused by misuse or statistically remote events such as earthquakes may create damages that, if not detected in time, may eventually cause failure. Hence, it is important to monitor RC structures to take necessary precautions and save human lives. A long-gauge strain (LGS) sensor has been developed to monitor these structures. While it has been developed mainly with concrete applications in mind, the new sensor can also be used in a variety of applications, including measuring strains in pipelines, steel structures, and the like. The proposed sensor system has a very low cost compared with the commercially available competing systems. Prototypes of the proposed strain sensors have been built and calibrated. Test results prove the accuracy, repeatability and reliability of the proposed strain sensor. When the LGS sensor was incorporated into a concrete beam there was very good agreement between the experimental measurement of strain using the LGS sensor when compared with two strain-gauged parallel steel rebars in the same concrete beam. 相似文献

The photogalvanic effect in electrochemical cells, employing aqueous Methylene blue and Fe(II)/Fe(III) couple electrolyte and nickel‐mesh electrodes, were experimentally investigated. Five different standard H‐cell configurations were set‐up by modifying the electrolyte. Long‐term open‐circuit voltage measurements were conducted in order to test the stability of the cells. Light on–off reproducibility experiments were also carried out during lengthy cell operations. By comparing experimental quantum yield with theoretical predictions, it was found that the cells operate on differential electrode kinetics. Oxidation of the illuminated electrode was detected. This affected the current–voltage characteristics of the cells after a sufficiently long cell operation. Schottky junction treatment was used to model the electrolyte–electrode junction. After calculating the ratio between the majority carrier (electron) current density and minority carrier (hole) current density, we concluded that the oxidation of the electrodes contributes positively to the cell performance since the electrode–electrolyte interface shows unipolar Schottky diode characteristics. Nonylphenol (NP) is a biodegradation product of nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs) belonging to the alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs) group. APEs are widely used nonionic surfactants in detergents, herbicides, pesticides, paints, and cosmetics. The present work investigates the effects of NP on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) livers at the molecular level using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The FT-IR spectra revealed dramatic differences between the NP-treated and control tissues, which mainly indicated that the level of triglycerides increased, the lipid order increased, and the protein concentration decreased in the treated samples. Moreover, it was also found that glycogen levels significantly decreased and the relative content of nucleic acids increased in NP-treated fish. The 17beta-Estradiol-treated fish liver spectra were found to be quite similar to those of NP-treated fish. All these results implied that rainbow trout may offer considerable promise to be used as a bioindicator for NP in the future. 相似文献

One design heuristic used to determine the just suspended speed, Njs, for mixed slurries assumes that the mixture Njs is dominated by the particle phase with the maximum Njs. This approach does not incorporate the effect of the second solid phase. Two new models are proposed to predict the mixture Njs: the power model and the momentum model. These models determine the mixture Njs using the sum of the power or the sum of the momentum required to suspend the individual solid phases. The models were tested using experimental data for two impellers, a Lightnin A310 impeller and a 45° pitched-blade turbine. A range of off-bottom clearances, and six mixtures of solids up to 27 wt% solids loading completed the data set. The power model accurately predicts mixture Njs for both impellers over the full range of clearances and up to 27 wt% mixtures. 相似文献

The removal of anionic surfactants, benzene sulfonate (BS), p-toluene sulfonate (TS), 4-octylbenzene sulfonate (OBS) and 4-dodecylbenzene sulfonate (DBS) from water and 0.01 M H(2)SO(4) solutions by adsorption onto high area activated carbon cloth (ACC) were studied by in situ UV-spectroscopic technique. The various properties of the ACC were given and the in situ UV-spectroscopic technique was described. Both kinetic and isotherm data were obtained for the adsorption of surfactants. Kinetic data were treated according to intraparticle diffusion, pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and Elovich models. They were found to fit the pseudo-second-order model best. Isotherm data were treated according to well-known Langmuir and Freundlich models. The regression analysis of the data showed that Freundlich model represents the isotherm data of the surfactants better. The second-order rate constants (at pH 7, 25 degrees C) for the reduction of three cationic triarylmethane dyes [pararosaniline (PR+), malachite green (MG+), methyl green (MeG+)] by NADH were 1.4 x 10(-2) to 6.7 x 10(-2)mM(-1)min(-1). Based on these values the intracellular nonenzymatic reduction of TAM+ to TAM-H by endogenous NADH was estimated to proceed with an average half-life of 30 min. Rapid and significant adduct formation was observed with the thiol, 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA), suggesting that the primary intracellular form of the dyes must be a thiol adduct and that the conversion to adduct form takes place within ms-s. These time frames, when compared to the min-h time frame for microbial clearance of triarylmethanes from culture media, suggest that transport must be the rate-limiting step in non-adsorptive (chemical) clearance of the dyes and that the presence of enzymes to complement the nonenzymatic reductive and adduct-forming activities cited serves a kinetically limited purpose. Different solvent extracts of endemic Sideritis (Labiatae) species, Sideritis congesta Davis et Huber-Morath and Sideritis arguta Boiss et Heldr, were analyzed for free flavonoids (quercetin, apigenin, myricetin and kaempferol) and cinnamic acid derivatives (rosmarinic acid, ferulic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid) using HPLC-DAD. All the phenolics were quantified in acid-hydrolyzed extracts, except rosmarinic acid, chlorogenic acid and myricetin which were quantified in raw samples. Antioxidant activities of extracts of these two plants and many of their components in pure form were evaluated based on DPPH. and ABTS.+ assays. In general, S. arguta extracts displayed higher antioxidant activity than S. congesta extracts possibly due to their richness in antioxidant components of strong activity. Acetone extract of S. arguta, with its strikingly high TEAC value of 3.2 mM trolox and low IC50 value of 38.3 ??g/mL showed the highest antioxidant potency among all extracts. ??-tocopherol, the positive control, displayed IC50 and TEAC values of 33.8 ??g/mL and 2.9 mM trolox, respectively. No direct correlation was found between antioxidant activities and total phenolic contents of the plant extracts studied. 相似文献
