Oxygen transport across the cathode gas diffusion layer (GDL) in polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells was examined by varying the O2/N2 ratio and by varying the area of the GDL extending laterally from the gas flow channel under the bipolar plate (under the land). As the cathode is depleted of oxygen, the current density becomes limited by oxygen transport across the GDL. Oxygen depletion from O2/N2 mixtures limits catalyst utilization, especially under the land.The local current density with air fed PEM fuel cells falls to practically zero at lateral distances under the land more than 3 times the GDL thickness; on the other hand, catalyst utilization was not limited when the fuel cell cathode was fed with 100% oxygen. The ratio of GDL thickness to the extent of the land is thus critical to the effective utilization of the catalyst in an air fed PEM fuel cell. © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2011  相似文献

The knowledge of glass transition temperatures Tg in drug + polymer systems is indispensable for drug encapsulation. Tg values as a function of composition make possible the determination whether a given polymer is miscible or compatible with the drug and whether the polymer will provide release of the drug into organism within an acceptable rate range. We have used differential scanning calorimetry and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy to evaluate miscibility in solid dispersions of the drugs carvedilol, itraconazole, nevirapine, and nimodipine in the pharmaceutical grade copolymer poly(vinyl pyrrolidone‐co‐vinyl acetate) (PLS‐630 Copovidone). Successful drug encapsulation is discussed in terms of thermophysical behavior (suppression of crystallization, negative excess volumes of mixing) and intermolecular interactions (concentrations of proton donating/accepting groups) in drug + polymer systems. Several equations were applied to the complex s‐shaped Tg(?) patterns obtained (? being the mass fraction of the drug). The best agreement of calculations with experiment is achieved using a recently proposed three‐parameter equation, symmetric with respect to the equal concentration of both components. POLYM. ENG. This work proposes a radio resource management framework employing game theoretic concepts for orthogonal frequency division multiple access, the most prevalent multiple access technique for the next generation wireless networks. The subcarrier allocation problem is encountered as a combinatorial auction, where the base station auctions the subcarriers and the users bid for and buy bundles of subcarriers, aiming at minimising their required transmit power. Subsequently, each allocated subcarrier is loaded with a number of bits, decided by each user independently, and the power control process is set up as a non-cooperative game. Each user responds to the interference sensed in his environment and, through a best responses process, the game converges to the unique, Pareto optimal, Nash equilibrium. In order to guarantee convergence, a limit is imposed to the maximum modulation level for each subcarrier. Simulation results show that the auction algorithm follows closely the performance of the optimal algorithm, whereas it is of lower computational complexity and requires less feedback information. Similarly, the proposed distributed bit loading and power control scheme achieves lower transmit power per offered bit rate unit. However, the distributed nature of the algorithm results in lower total offered bit rate, because of the partial knowledge and exploitation of channel state information.  相似文献

This paper investigates the problem of resource allocation in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) OFDM-based system, wherein multiple multicast groups exist. Multicasting is a transmission technique which enables a transmitter to communicate via a single wireless link with multiple receivers simultaneously. Moreover, the presence of multiple antennas in both transmitter and receiver enhances significantly the system spectral efficiency. MIMO technology along with multicasting offers major advantages to wireless systems. However, optimum exploitation of these technologies adds significant complexity to the system which makes very difficult any possible practical implementation. Another important issue of such systems is their capacity to ensure to all users a certain level of QoS. To that end, we propose a low complexity fair resource allocation algorithm aiming at ensuring a certain amount of resources to all users when multicasting is applied. Validation of the proposed solution is achieved through extensive simulation and it is compared to other multicast schemes for MIMO systems which exist in literature. Numerical results and complexity analysis show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

Given that the vast majority of Internet interactions relate to content access and delivery, recent research has pointed to a potential paradigm shift from the current host-centric Internet model to an information-centric one. In information-centric networks, named content is accessed directly, with the best content copy delivered to the requesting user given content caching within the network. Here, we present an Internet-scale mediation approach for content access and delivery that supports content and network mediation. Content characteristics, server load, and network distance are taken into account in order to locate the best content copy and optimize network utilization while maximizing the user quality of experience. The content mediation infrastructure is provided by Internet service providers in a cooperative fashion, with both decoupled/two-phase and coupled/one-phase modes of operation. We present in detail the coupled mode of operation which is used for popular content and follows a domain-level hop-by-hop content resolution approach to optimally identify the best content copy. We also discuss key aspects of our content mediation approach, including incremental deployment issues and scalability. While presenting our approach, we also take the opportunity to explain key information-centric networking concepts.  相似文献

The carboxylate anion has been used as a directing group in the aromatic amination of electronically equivalent aryl bromides to afford selective ortho‐substituted derivatives (>99:1 selectivity; 60–80% yield) in the case of copper(I) catalysis. The solvent, base and equivalents of base were important factors in the success of this reaction. Complementary selectivity was achieved with palladium catalysis where the para‐substituted derivatives were produced selectively (>99% selectivity, 70–80% yield).  相似文献

This paper shows how the self‐assembled interlocking of two nanostructured materials can lead to increased photovoltaic performance. A detailed picture of the reticulated 6‐DBTTC/C60 organic photovoltaic (OPV) heterojunction, which produces devices approaching the theoretical maximum for these materials, is presented from near edge X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (NEXAFS), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Grazing Incidence X‐ray diffraction (GIXD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The complementary suite of techniques shows how self‐assembly can be exploited to engineer the interface and morphology between the cables of donor (6‐DBTTC) material and a polycrystalline acceptor (C60) to create an interpenetrating network of pure phases expected to be optimal for OPV device design. Moreover, we find that there is also a structural and electronic interaction between the two materials at the molecular interface. The data show how molecular self‐assembly can facilitate 3‐D nanostructured photovoltaic cells that are made with the simplicity and control of bilayer device fabrication. The significant improvement in photovoltaic performance of the reticulated heterojunction over the flat analog highlights the potential of these strategies to improve the efficiency of organic solar cells.  相似文献

This study investigates the linear hydrodynamic scattering problem by stationary prolate spheroidal bodies and aims at providing an analytic solution for the associated boundary value problem. It extends the work of the present author on the hydrodynamics of oblate spheroidal bodies following the same procedure. The structural model under consideration is a spheroid with its polar axis greater than its equatorial diameter, subjected to the action of monochromatic incident waves. The polar axis is assumed to be perpendicular to the free surface that leads to the axisymmetric case concept. The analytic solution is sought using the method of multipole expansions constructed by employing Thorne’s formulas (Multipole expansions in the theory of surface waves. Proc Cam Philos Soc 49:707–716, 1953) that describe the velocity potential at singular points within a fluid domain with free upper surface and infinite water depth. The final stage of the solution process is the application of the zero velocity condition on the wetted surface of the spheroid. Inevitably this task requires the transformation of the involved velocity potentials, originally expressed with respect to spherical and polar coordinates, into prolate spheroidal coordinates. To this end, the appropriate addition theorems are derived, which recast Thorne’s expressions into infinite series of associated Legendre functions.  相似文献
