Novel nanocomposite materials where iron nanoparticles are embedded into the walls of a macroporous polymer were produced and their efficiency for the removal of As(III) from aqueous media was studied. Nanocomposite gels containing α-Fe2O3 and Fe3O4 nanoparticles were prepared by cryopolymerisation resulting in a monolithic structure with large interconnected pores up to 100 μm in diameter and possessing a high permeability (ca. 3 × 10−3 m s−1). The nanocomposite devices showed excellent capability for the removal of trace concentrations of As(III) from solution, with a total capacity of up to 3 mg As/g of nanoparticles. The leaching of iron was minimal and the device could operate in a pH range 3-9 without diminishing removal efficiency. The effect of competing ions such as SO42− and PO43− was negligible. The macroporous composites can be easily configured into a variety of shapes and structures and the polymer matrix can be selected from a variety of monomers, offering high potential as flexible metal cation remediation devices. 相似文献

Dielectric, X-ray, and piezoelectric studies of highly-resistive Li-doped (1-x)PbFe(1/2)Nb(1/2)O(3)-(x)PbTiO(3) (PFN-xPT) ceramics from the 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.2 range fabricated by solid-state synthesis and usual sintering have been carried out. Distinct anomalies of dielectric and piezoelectric parameters, corresponding to the transition between rhombohedral (monoclinic) and tetragonal ferroelectric phases, have been observed in pure PFN and PFN-xPT compositions with PbTiO(3) content up to 8 mol.%. In the present study, we report enhanced antimicrobial properties of 29 and 23 nm silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) obtained by
electrochemical synthesis in poly(amide-hydroxyurethane) media. Antibacterial activity assessed by disk diffusion method indicates
that silver nanoparticles produced inhibition zones for both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus depending on silver concentration. The bacterial growth curve performed in the presence of silver nanoparticles showed a
stronger antibacterial effect at lower concentrations than those described in the earlier reports. The effect was both dose
and size dependent and was more pronounced against Gram negative bacteria than Gram positive one. The smallest Ag NPs used
had a bactericidal effect resulting in killing E. coli cells. Scanning electron microscopy analysis indicated major damage and morphology changes of the silver nanoparticles treated
bacterial cells. The major mechanism responsible for the antibacterial effect probably consists in clusters formation and

This paper presents our method, which simultaneously combines automatic imaging, identification, and counting with the acquisition of morphological information for at least 1000 blood cells from several three-dimensional images of the same sample. We started with seeking parameters to differentiate between red blood cells that are similar but different with respect to their development stage, i.e., mature or immature. We highlight that these cells have different diffractive patterns with complementary central intensity distribution in a given plane along the propagation axis. We use the Fresnel approximation to simulate propagation through cells modeled as spheroid-shaped phase objects and to find the cell property that has the dominant influence on this behavior. Starting with images obtained in the reconstruction step of the digital holographic microscopy technique, we developed a code for automated simultaneous individual cell image separation, identification, and counting, even when the cells are partially overlapped on a slide, and accurate measuring of their morphological features. To find the centroids of each cell, we propose a method based on analytical functions applied at threshold intervals. Our procedure separates the mature from the immature red blood cells and from the white blood cells through a decision based on gradient and radius values. 相似文献

On the basis of studies of the piezo-optic effect, it has been shown that SrB(4)O(7) crystals can be used as efficient acousto-optic materials in the vacuum ultraviolet spectral range. The full matrices of piezo-optic and photoelastic coefficients have been experimentally obtained for these crystals. A large group of prion‐associated proteins was identified in yeast cells using a new approach, comparative analysis of pellet proteins of crude cell lysates in isogenic strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae differing by their prion composition. Two‐dimensional (2D) electrophoresis followed by MALDI analysis of the pellet proteins of [PSI+] and [psi?] strains after prion elimination by GuHCl and prion transmission by cytoduction permitted identification of ca. 40 proteins whose aggregation state correlated with the change of prion(s) content. Approximately half of these proteins belonged to chaperones and to enzymes of glucose metabolism. Chaperones are known to be involved in prion metabolism and are expected to be present in prion‐containing aggregates, but glucose metabolism enzymes are not predicted to be present. Nevertheless, several recent data suggest that their presence is not incidental. We detected six proteins involved in oxidative stress response and eight in translation. Also notable is a protease. The paper presents one of the first attempts at a multidisciplinary study of engineering geological and economic problems arising in the course of construction and operation of transport systems. It is shown that vibration (an obligatory attribute to highway impact on the geological environment) and frost heaving (manifesting in deformations and ruining of road surfacing and other elements of highways) are observed almost everywhere and can be considered among the most effective factors causing changes in the geological environment. In this work, the sorption isotherms of xanthan powder obtained under static and dynamic conditions and their fitting with mathematical models were discussed. The transitions within xanthan-water systems have been investigated using a standard material characterization technique - Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) - and two novel techniques - Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis (DMTA) material pocket and Phase Transition Analysis (PTA). It was found that within water-xanthan systems, the onset temperature for the melting of freezable water obtained from DSC method was in agreement with freezable water melting peaks obtained via DMTA material pocket at levels of hydration when the freezable water was present. Also, low-temperature transitions, related to polysaccharide-water interactions, were observed by both techniques within xanthan systems which contained no freezable water.
