Agglomeration of struvite crystals   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Struvite crystallisation is widely studied as a way to remove phosphorus from wastewater effluents and simultaneously generates a valuable product for the fertiliser industry. However, to date, some crystallisation processes experimented at either pilot/or full scale face problems linked to the formation of fines. This paper presents results on the investigation of struvite agglomerative properties and the possible application of coagulants and/or flocculants to remove fines. Coagulants investigated were hydrolysing metals salts (Al(3+) and Fe(3+)), calcium compounds and a cationic polymer, polydiallyldimethylammoniumchloride (polyDADMAC). The effects of a natural flocculant (alginate) have also been tested. Results demonstrated that destabilisation of struvite particles by chemical addition was feasible and identified polyDADMAC as a good option for the agglomeration of struvite particles. However, optimisation of its dosage under typical pH conditions for struvite formation showed floc formation to be very pH sensitive.  相似文献

The depletion of natural resources, the increasing use of valuable land surface for human activities, and the generation of waste are detrimental to the planet. Sustainable alternatives to guarantee a sufficient supply of food, feed, and biomaterials are needed. Insects may hold an interesting position in a circular economy to tackle contemporary societal challenges. Using insects for food, feed, biomaterial production, and to valorize side-streams, have gained increased interest. Mealworms are amenable to large-scale farming. Herein, the potential of mealworm oil for implementation in a cosmetic hand cream is evaluated. It is shown that mealworms are rich in oil (≈30% of the dry weight), and the oil can be extracted using hexane or ethyl acetate as a solvent. The euthanization step of mealworms has profound effect on the free fatty acid content. The fatty acid profile indicates a large proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, which is promising for use in cosmetic applications. In a proof of concept, the mealworm oil is implemented in a hand cream and compared to hand cream containing macadamia nut oil. No differences in odor and aspect/stability are observed, but mealworm creams are slightly less white color. Mealworm oil is suitable for cosmetics applications. Practical applications: Several insect species can be sustainably reared on low-value organic side-streams, requiring only small amounts of land-surface, less water, and producing less greenhouse gases. In addition, they have short life cycles and can be reared continuously and locally. This implies that insects are an interesting source of biological materials including proteins and oils. Insect oils, including oil of mealworms, have interesting fatty acid profiles that make them amenable to replace oils of vegetable origin for applications within cosmetics. The results indicate that mealworm oil can be a novel, sustainable ingredient for use in the cosmetics industry.  相似文献

A buffer‐mediated gelation route for collagen hydrogels that allows the formation of homogeneous composite and hybrid materials with various silica sources (i.e., colloidal silica and soluble silicates) at high concentration (up to 25 × 10?3 M ) is described. Most significant improvement in rheological properties and proliferation of primary adult human dermal fibroblasts was obtained for the silicate‐based hybrid materials. A similar trend was observed in composite materials incorporating 14 nm SiO2 nanoparticles, although to a much lesser extent, whereas larger colloids (80 and 390 nm) did not significantly impact mechanical stability and cell behavior. Modification of 80 nm particles surface with amine groups weakens the collagen‐mineral interface, resulting in the decrease of material stability and leading to particle aggregation during the course of cell proliferation experiments.  相似文献

An XPS investigation was carried out of the surface films, formed by exposure to ultrapure water, on mechanically ground Mg and the two Mg-Al intermetallic compounds: Al3Mg2 and Mg17Al12. The mechanically ground Mg surface had a film of MgO at the Mg metal surface covered by a Mg(OH)2 layer, formed by the reaction of the MgO with water vapour in the air. Upon immersion in ultrapure water, this film converted to a duplex film with an inner MgO layer next to the Mg metal and an external porous hydroxide layer. For both intermetallics, the XPS data is consistent with (i) preferential dissolution of Mg and (ii) a 10 nm thick film on the surface after immersion in ultrapure water; the film composition on Al3Mg2 was AlMg1.4O0.2(OH)5.4 whilst on Mg17Al12 the composition was AlMg2.5(OH)8.  相似文献

The increasing interest of supercritical (SC) fluids for inorganic materials synthesis recently stimulated the development of innovative synthesis processes and strategies. The supercritical CO2 aided sol–gel process, developed for preparing various ceramic oxide powders with attractive applications in cosmetics, chromatography, catalysis or solid oxide fuel cells, usually suffer from both reproducibility problems and poor knowledge of the key parameters defining the final powder characteristics. In the present work a specific effort has been put on the understanding of reaction mechanisms and process parameters like co-solvent polarity and ageing time of the starting solution, which appeared to play a crucial role for the control of powder characteristics. Two different reaction mechanisms have been proposed to explain the formation of tetragonal yttria-doped zirconia powders by a batch process in either CO2/pentane or CO2/isopropanol mixtures. The first mechanism corresponds to a CO2 anti-solvent precipitation process while the other one is based on a condensation reaction as in the conventional sol–gel process. This improved understanding in particle formation allows better control of powder characteristics and reproducibility.  相似文献

In this work, an alternative method for producing the single crystalline Ge-Si Avalanche photodiodes (APD) with low thermal budget was investigated. Structural and electrical investigations show that low temperature Ge to Si wafer bonding can be used to achieve successful APD integration. Based on the surface chemistry of the Ge layer, the buried interfaces were investigated using high resolution transmission electron microscopy as a function of surface activation after low temperature annealing at 200 and 300 °C. The hetero-interface was characterized by measuring forward and reverse currents.  相似文献

Like other amphiphilic compounds, bolaforms do not always possess surfactant properties; it depends on the spacer chain length and the nature of the polar head group (both sufficiently hydrophobic or hydrophilic, respectively, to intensify the amphiphilic properties). In this regard, unsymmetrical bolaamphiphiles bearing a sugar polar head group and a carboxylic acid function at the opposite ends of a hydrophobic binding spacer were synthesized. These biocompatible sugar-derived bolaforms were associated with basic fatty amines, by an acid–base reaction, to obtain catanionic mixtures. Associations with 1,7-lactobionamidoheptanoic acid and decylamine or octylamine spontaneously form stable 200–600 nm vesicles. This new type of association may find an application in drug delivery since catanionic vesicles can transport active substances inside the hydrophilic core, as well as hydrophobic drugs within the bilayer.  相似文献
