The problem of the radiated emission from apertures in metallic enclosures has been theoretically and experimentally investigated. In particular, the tangential electric field in the aperture has been evaluated by two methods: the first is helpful during the design stage and the second during the prototype development stage of electronic equipment shielded by a metallic box. The first method is a rigorous approach and uses the equivalence principle that leads to an integral equation then solved by the method of moments. The second is an approximate technique. This technique is based on simple, cheap, and quick measurements of the normal components of the magnetic field across the aperture. Tropical soils are important sources of nitrous oxide (N2O) and nitric oxide (NO) emissions from the Earths terrestrial ecosystems. Clearing of tropical rainforest for pasture has the potential to alter N2O and NO emissions from soils by altering moisture, nitrogen supply or other factors that control N oxide production. In this review we report annual rates of N2O and NO emissions from forest and pastures of different ages in the western Brazilian Amazon state of Rondônia and examine how forest clearing alters the major controls of N oxide production. Forests had annual N2O emissions of 1.7 to 4.3 kg N ha-1 y-1 and annual NO emissions of 1.4 kg N ha-1 y-1. Young pastures of 1–3 years old had higher N2O emissions than the original forest (3.1–5.1 kg N ha-1 y-1) but older pastures of 6 years or more had lower emissions (0.1 to 0.4 kg N ha-1 y-1). Both soil moisture and indices of soil N cycling were relatively poor predictors of N2O, NO and combined N2O + NO emissions. In forest, high N2O emissions occurred at soil moistures above 30 water-filled pore space, while NO emissions occurred at all measured soil moistures (18–43). In pastures, low N availability led to low N2O and NO emissions across the entire range of soil moistures. Based on these patterns and results of field fertilization experiments, we concluded that: (1) nitrification was the source of NO from forest soils, (2) denitrification was not a major source of N2O production from forest soils or was not limited by NO- supply, (3) denitrification was a major source of N2O production from pasture soils but only when NO3- was available, and (4) nitrification was not a major source of 3 NO production in pasture soils. Pulse wettings after prolonged dry periods increased N2O and NO3- emissions for only short periods and not enough to appreciably affect annual emission rates. We project that Basin-wide, the effect of clearing for pasture in the future will be a small reduction in total N2O emissions if the extensive pastures of the Amazon continue to be managed in a way similar to current practices. In the future, both N2Oand NO fluxes could increase if uses of pastures change to include greater use of N fertilizers or N-fixing crops. Predicting the consequences of these changes for N oxide production will require an understanding of how the processes of nitrification and denitrification interact with soil type and regional moisture regimes to control N2O and NO production from these new anthropogenic N sources. 相似文献

Heterozygous mutations in the GBA gene, encoding the lysosomal enzyme glucocerebrosidase (GCase), are the strongest known genetic risk factor for Parkinson’s disease (PD). The molecular mechanisms underlying the increased PD risk and the variable phenotypes observed in carriers of different GBA mutations are not yet fully elucidated. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have gained increasing importance in neurodegenerative diseases since they can vehiculate pathological molecules potentially promoting disease propagation. Accumulating evidence showed that perturbations of the endosomal–lysosomal pathway can affect EV release and composition. Here, we investigate the impact of GCase deficiency on EV release and their effect in recipient cells. EVs were purified by ultracentrifugation from the supernatant of fibroblast cell lines derived from PD patients with or without GBA mutations and quantified by nanoparticle tracking analysis. SH-SY5Y cells over-expressing alpha-synuclein (α-syn) were used to assess the ability of patient-derived small EVs to affect α-syn expression. We observed that defective GCase activity promotes the release of EVs, independently of mutation severity. Moreover, small EVs released from PD fibroblasts carrying severe mutations increased the intra-cellular levels of phosphorylated α-syn. In summary, our work shows that the dysregulation of small EV trafficking and alpha-synuclein mishandling may play a role in GBA-associated PD. 相似文献

This study compared vaginal temperature, physiologic, and productive parameters in lactating dairy cows supplemented or not with Omnigen-AF (Phibro Animal Health, Teaneck, NJ) during the summer months in a tropical environment. Thirty-two lactating, primiparous (n = 16) and multiparous (n = 16) pregnant Holstein × Gir cows were ranked by parity, days in milk, body weight, and body condition score (BCS), and assigned to receive (SUPP; n = 16) or not (CON; n = 16) Omnigen-AF (Phibro Animal Health, Teaneck, NJ) at 56 g/cow daily (as-fed basis). During the experimental period (d ?6 to 56), cows were maintained in a single drylot pen with ad libitum access to water and a total mixed ration, and milked twice daily. Cows received Omnigen-AF mixed with 200 g of corn (as-fed basis) after the daily morning milking through self-locking head gates, whereas CON cows concurrently received 56 g of kaolin mixed with 200 g of corn. For feed intake evaluation, cows from both treatments were randomly divided in 4 groups of 8 cows each, and allocated to 8 individual feeding stations for 3 d. Intake was evaluated 4 times per group from d 1 to 56. From d ?6 to 0, d 15 to 28, and d 43 to 56, cow vaginal temperature was recorded hourly. Environmental temperature-humidity index (THI) was also recorded hourly from d 15 to 28 and d 43 to 56. Cows were evaluated for body weight and BCS on d ?6 and 56, individual milk production was recorded daily from d ?6 to 56, and milk samples were collected on d ?6, 0, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 for analyses of somatic cell count and milk components. Blood samples were collected on d ?6, ?3, 0, 9, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 36, 45, 48, 51, 54, and 56. Results from samples or observations collected from d ?6 to 0 were included as an independent covariate in each respective analysis. Environmental THI was 74.2 ± 0.5 and cows were exposed to THI >68 for 633 h within a total of 672 h of evaluation. Cows assigned to CON had greater vaginal temperature on d 28, 43, 45, and from d 48 to 55 (by 0.38 to 0.52%), as well as greater mean somatic cell count (by 97%) and serum haptoglobin concentrations (by 89%) compared with SUPP cows. Cows assigned to SUPP had greater mean dry matter intake (by 7%), BCS on d 56 (by 11%), and mean serum insulin concentrations (by 35%) compared with CON cows. Hence, SUPP ameliorated hyperthermia, improved nutritional status, and modulated systemic and mammary gland immune parameters in lactating dairy cows exposed to heat stress conditions. 相似文献

Greater metabolic demands in high-producing dairy cows are believed to be a cause of sub-fertility in these animals. Previously, supplementation with vitamin B complex molecules has shown benefits in improving milk production, health, and reproductive efficiency of dairy cows. The primary aim of this project was to determine the effects of rumen-protected vitamin B complex supplementation of 100 g of Transition VB (Jefo, St. Hyacinthe, QC, Canada) and 4 g of Lactation VB (VB; Jefo), during the transition and early lactation periods, respectively, compared with a control diet containing no supplementation on d 14 endometrial outcomes of pregnancy. In the vitamin B supplemented cows, we expect to see a change in the mark-up of endometrial genes important for embryo survival before implantation. Multiparous Holstein cows were enrolled into the study 3 wk before parturition and were randomly assigned to either the VB or control treatment. Twice-a-week blood samples, weekly milk samples, and daily feed intake were collected. Cows were enrolled onto a double-ovsynch protocol at 33 ± 3 d postpartum and inseminated by timed artificial insemination. Milk production and components, concentrations of BHB, haptoglobin, and progesterone in serum, and ovarian dynamics were also measured, but no treatment effect was observed. The uterus was flushed on d 14 after artificial insemination (around 72 DIM) for conceptus collection, and endometrial samples were collected at the same time. Overall, 42 cows were flushed and 13 embryos were collected. Analysis of mRNA expression of genes related to embryo development, immune system, adhesion, and regulation of vitamin B molecules showed that OXTR, MUC5B, MUC1, IL1B, SPP, TRD, FZD8, and FOLR1 genes were significantly upregulated in the VB group. Vitamin B supplementation had no effect on the size of the embryo and ovulatory follicle or corpus luteum diameter at embryo collection. In conclusion, the benefits of strategic dietary VB supplementation during the transition and early lactation might be directly linked to endometrial functions required for embryo survival during the peri-implantation period. 相似文献

Objectives were to evaluate the effects of differing progesterone concentrations during follicle development on follicular dynamics, fertilization, and embryo quality. Lactating Holstein cows (n = 154) were assigned randomly to 1 of 2 treatments. Cows underwent a presynchronization of the estrous cycle composed of an injection of GnRH concurrently with the placement of a progesterone insert, an injection of PGF2α and insert removal 7 d later, and a second injection of GnRH 48 h later (study d −16). All cows were then submitted to a hormonal protocol identical to the presynchronization program starting on d 7 of the estrous cycle (study d −9). Cows enrolled in the high progesterone (HP) treatment received no further treatment. Cows in the low progesterone (LP) treatment received additional PGF2α injections on study d −14, −13.5, and −13 and again on study d −9, −7, −6.5, and −6. Ovaries were evaluated by ultrasonography, and blood was sampled for concentrations of progesterone and estradiol throughout the study. Uteri were flushed 6 d after artificial insemination (AI) and recovered oocytes-embryos were evaluated. Concentrations of progesterone were less for LP cows from study d −7 to −2; concentrations of estradiol at PGF2α and at the last GnRH of synchronization were greater for LP than HP. The proportion of cows in estrus at AI was greater for LP than for HP (38.0 vs. 5.3%). Ovulatory follicles of LP cows had larger diameters at the injections of PGF2α (17.2 vs. 14.6 mm) and final GnRH (19.4 vs. 16.9%) of the synchronization, which resulted in a larger diameter of the corpus luteum 6 d after AI (24.3 vs. 22.6 mm). Double ovulation after the last GnRH of the synchronization was increased in LP (18.6%) compared with HP (4.5%). Fertilization rate was similar and averaged 82.7%. The proportion of embryos and oocytes-embryos classified as grades 1 and 2, proportion of degenerated embryos, and unfertilized-degenerated oocytes-embryos were not different between LP and HP. Number of blastomeres did not differ between LP and HP, but the proportion of live blastomeres tended to be less for LP than HP (94.2 vs. 98.7%). Reducing progesterone concentrations during the synchronization program altered concentrations of estradiol and follicular dynamics, but resulted in similar fertilization and only minor changes in embryo quality. 相似文献

This paper describes a vehicle detection system fusing radar and vision data. Radar data are used to locate areas of interest on images. Vehicle search in these areas is mainly based on vertical symmetry. All the vehicles found in different image areas are mixed together, and a series of filters is applied in order to delete false detections. In order to speed up and improve system performance, guard rail detection and a method to manage overlapping areas are also included. Both methods are explained and justified in this paper. The current algorithm analyzes images on a frame-by-frame basis without any temporal correlation. Two different statistics, namely: 1) frame based and 2) event based, are computed to evaluate vehicle detection efficiency, while guard rail detection efficiency is computed in terms of time savings and correct detection rates. The objective was to determine the effects of bovine somatotropin (bST) and two artificial insemination (AI) protocols on reproductive performance of Holstein cows. Lactating cows (n = 840) were assigned at 37 d in milk (DIM) to one of four treatments in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement. Treatments consisted of either bST (500 mg/14 d) starting at 63 +/- 3 DIM or no bST (control), with cows either submitted for timed AI following a synchronized ovulation (Ovsynch) protocol or assigned to receive AI based on estrus detection (ED). Two injections of PGF2, at 37 +/- 3 and 51 +/- 3 DIM were used to presynchronize estrous cycles. Cows then received an injection of GnRH at 63 +/- 3 DIM, followed 7.5 d later by PGF2. Cows assigned to ED treatments were inseminated after observed estrus during a 7-d period. Cows in Ovsynch treatments received a second GnRH injection 48 h after the last PGF2alpha and received timed AI 16 to 18 h later. Pregnancy was diagnosed by ultrasound at 31 d after AI and confirmed 14 d later. Frequency of anovulation (18.5%) at 63 DIM was similar across treatments, but proportions of anovulatory cows decreased quadratically as body condition at 70 DIM increased from 2.25 to 3.75. Estrus detection rate after PGF2alpha tended to be lower in multiparous cows receiving bST, and bST reduced returns to estrus in nonpregnant cows. Conception rates were higher in cows receiving AI after ED and bST improved conception rates to first AI in cyclic cows by reducing embryonic mortality. Pregnancy loss was similar for cows inseminated following ED or the Ovsynch protocol. There was a positive impact of bST on fertility of cyclic cows inseminated at fixed time or at detected estrus, but effective resynchronization protocols are needed to optimize reinsemination of non-pregnant bST-treated cows. 相似文献

The use of current probes for the injection of wide-band disturbance in electromagnetic compatibility applications requires their accurate characterization up to few gigahertz. While the representation of the current probe with a simple transformer is acceptable at low frequencies, the spectral content of fast signals requires models which are accurate even at gigahertz frequencies. This can be accomplished directly by measurements in the frequency domain (FD), making use of a S-matrix representation of the probe, or in the time domain (TD), recovering the transfer functions from the impulse responses measurement. Both techniques suffer limitations due to numerical and experimental problems; in particular, the FD approach leads to the solution of an inverse problem, with numerical instabilities in the high-frequency range, whereas the TD approach is not so accurate in the low-frequency range of the sought transfer function. The paper combines the two techniques to overcome these difficulties and achieve a better accuracy across the overall bandwidth. The characterization of a commercially available current probe allows comparison of numerical results with experimental measurements. 相似文献
