Information security management has become an important research issue in distributed systems, and the detection of failures
is a fundamental issue for fault tolerance in large distributed systems. Recently, many people have come to realize that failure
detection ought to be provided as some form of generic service, similar to IP address lookup. However, this has not been successful
so far; one of the reasons being the fact that classical failure detectors were not designed to satisfy several application
requirements simultaneously. More specifically, traditional implementations of failure detectors are often tuned for running
over local networks and fail to address some important problems found in wide-area distributed systems with a large number
of monitored components, such as Grid systems. In this paper, we study the security management scheme for failure detector
distributed systems. We first identify some of the most important QoS problems raised in the context of large wide-area distributed
systems. Then we present a novel failure detector scheme combined with self-tuning control theory that can help in solving
or optimizing some of these problems. Furthermore, this paper discusses the design and analysis of implementing a scalable
failure detection service for such large wide-area distributed systems considering dynamically adjusting the heartbeat streams,
so that it satisfies the bottleneck router requirements. The basic z-transformation stability test is used to achieve the stability criterion, which ensures the bounded rate allocation without
steady state oscillation. We further show how the online failure detector control algorithm can be used to design a controller,
analyze the theoretical aspects of the proposed algorithm and verify its agreement with the simulations in the LAN and WAN
case. Simulation results show the efficiency of our scheme in terms of high utilization of the bottleneck link, fast response
and good stability of the bottleneck router buffer occupancy as well as of the controlled sending rates. In conclusion, the
new security management failure detector algorithm provides a better QoS than an algorithm that is proposed by Stelling et al.

Abstract— Among various barrier‐rib manufacturing processes, the mold‐pattern‐transfer method has potential to reduce processing cost as well as the manufacture of high‐resolution pixels. In this study, the effects of major processing variables of the mold‐pattern‐transfer process on the formation of air‐trapped pores within barrier ribs were examined. The results indicated that with an optimum combination of the processing variables, barrier ribs without trapped defects can be produced, demonstrating the possibility of reducing the number of processing steps and costs of barrier ribs. 相似文献

Application of ultrasound to biological tissues has been identified as a promising cancer treatment technique relying on temporal enhancement of biological membrane permeability via shock wave impact. In the present study, the effects of ultrasonic waves on a 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-phosphatidylcholine biological membrane are examined through molecular dynamics simulations. Molecular dynamics methods traditionally employ periodic boundary conditions which, however, restrict the total simulation time to the time required for the shock wave crossing the domain, thus limiting the evaluation of the effects of shock waves on the diffusion properties of the membrane. A novel method that allows capturing both the initial shock wave transit as well as the subsequent longer-timescale diffusion phenomena has been successfully developed, validated and verified via convergence studies. Numerical simulations have been carried out with ultrasonic impulses varying from 0.0 to 0.6 mPa s leading to the conclusion that for impulses ≥0.45 mPa s, no self-recovery of the bilayer is observed and, hence, ultrasound could be applied to the destruction of localized tumor cells. However, for impulses ≤0.3 mPa s, an increase in the transversal diffusivity of the lipids, indicating a consequent enhancement of drug absorption across the membrane, is initially observed followed by a progressive recovery of the initial values, thereby suggesting the advantageous effects of ultrasound on enhancing the chemotherapy efficiency. 相似文献

Internet-enabled cell phones typically accommodate only three to 12 text lines, and their design emphasizes portability. Web interaction has, so far, been a secondary concern. For the most part, automated techniques to address the feature gap between the desktop and these phonetops rely on the notion of transducing-translating HTML and images into formats compatible with small devices, which typically cannot handle HTML content. TEM images of thin foils with quasi-globular particles are examined by means of two methods of spatial statistics. The spatial arrangement of particle reference points is described by means of quadrat count statistics and by polygonal method (the analysis of the Voronoi mosaic generated by patterns of particle reference points). ABSTRACTWe introduce a cost-effective reflectance calibration method for small unmanned aerial vehicle (sUAV) images using ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) greyscale reference panels. The goal is to test if such light-weight and low-cost panels can provide sufficient calibration accuracy to support UAV survey projects. The universal calibration equations to convert red-green-blue (RGB) digital number (DN) values of UAV images to surface reflectance values were constructed based on the relationship between RGB values measured by a colour digitizer and surface reflectance values measured by a spectrometer. We compared the calibration results for UAV ortho-mosaic images acquired at three different illumination conditions in late autumn to the results derived from high-cost commercial panels. The comparison showed high degree of agreement between our method using the EVA panels with the traditional methods using the commercial panels. The Mann–Whitney U test verified our method was statistically more significant at all illumination conditions tests. In addition, the calibration results applied for two different sensors and three different flight altitudes acquired in early summer were satisfactory. This method is transferable to various illumination conditions and flight altitudes as long as the effects of shades and the bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) are minimal. An innovative approach to speech enhancement is illustrated which minimises distortion to the underlying speech during the noise-reduction process. The key to this approach lies in the identification of whether the additive noise for a particular frequency component is constructive or destructive. Once this can be identified both multiplicative and subtractive filters can be derived using the minimum mean-square error criterion. BACKGROUND: Gluten peptide was prepared by trypsin hydrolysis and characterized by high‐performance liquid chromatographic analysis. The effects on non‐frozen and frozen doughs of trypsin‐hydrolyzed gluten peptide (THGP) and its combination with ascorbic acid or KBrO3 were investigated. RESULTS: Molecular analysis of THGP showed a decrease in the high‐molecular‐weight and an increase in the low‐molecular‐weight sodium dodecyl sulfate‐soluble fractions, compared with those of control wheat gluten. The addition of 8% THGP decreased the mixing time and tolerance of the dough, both with and without ascorbic acid or KBrO3. However, the maximum resistance and extensibility of the rested dough containing 8% THGP, with and without ascorbic acid or KBrO3, were not significantly different from those of the control dough. The addition of 8% THGP significantly increased the loaf volume of bread baked from non‐frozen dough when combined with 60 ppm ascorbic acid or 30 ppm KBrO3, but it had a significant effect both with and without ascorbic acid or KBrO3 on frozen‐dough bread. A large difference in volume was observed between breads made with and without THGP at the oven‐spring, rather than at proofing. CONCLUSION: The addition of 8% THGP increased the loaf volume of bread made from freeze‐damaged dough and this effect increased when THGP was combined with 60 ppm ascorbic acid. The dynamic stress–strain behaviour of the Spectra Shield® LCR (laminated composite roll) is determined from tests using a tensile split Hopkinson bar, and the experimental results indicate that it is highly strain rate sensitive. The failure strain decreases initially with strain rate up to a critical value, and rises thereafter, while the failure stress increases with strain rate to a similar value of strain rate, after which it decreases. The nature of failure of filaments is observed to change with strain rate, first becoming increasingly brittle and then returning to more ductile modes once the critical strain rate is exceeded. The increase in failure strain and stress are accounted for in terms of strain rate hardening. An explanation of the reduction in failure stress beyond the critical strain rate is proposed with respect to increasing viscoelastic hysteresis and reduction in the time available for filament alignment. 相似文献
