The crystal orientations of linear polyethylene films on silicon substrates are investigated using grazing incidence X‐ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy. From diffraction analysis, we can identify the structural arrangement of PE crystals in ultrathin film. The orientation of lamellar crystal in PE films changes from edge‐on to flat‐on with the decrease of film thickness in the film thickness below ~ 100 nm. The slightly inclined lamellae relative to the substrate are found to coexist with the flat‐on lamellae in thin PE films that we have investigated. We find that the crystal orientation and structures is governed by the constraint imposed by film thickness rather than enthalpy gain as the film got thinner especially in the thickness below 200 nm. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The objective of this study was to compare astragalin (kaempferol-3-O-glucoside) isolated from Suaeda asparagoides extract with kaempferol, an aglycone of astragalin showing the anti-oxidative activity, the cellular protective effect, and skin permeability. Kaempferol was superior to (+)-α-tocopherol and l-ascorbic acid known as strong antioxidants in the antioxidative activity by DPPH method and chemiluminescence assay. Astragalin and kaempferol exhibited more prominent cellular protective effect than the lipid peroxidation chain blocker, (+)-α-tocopherol. In this in vitro permeation experiment of astragalin and kaempferol through the ICR mouse skin, kaempferol permeated deeper into the skin than astragalin. These results indicate that kaempferol and astragalin can function as antioxidants in biological systems, particularly skin exposed to solar radiation, and protect cellular membranes against reactive oxygen species. 相似文献

The partial reduction of TiO2 was attempted by heat treatment and plasma-heat treatment and it was carried out to investigate the photocatalytic characteristics of partially reduced TiO2 (TiO2?x) in the visible-light region. As a result, the plasma-heat treatment shows significantly stronger than the heat treatment for the visible-light photocatalytic activity of TiO2. The red-shifted absorption bands in the visible-light region of TiO2?x by plasma-heat treatment gave broader than one by heat treatment. The effects of surface passivation on the photoluminescence (PL) properties of CdS nanoparticles oxidized by straightforward H2O2 injection were examined. Compared to pristine cadmium sulfide nanocrystals (quantum efficiency ≅ 0.1%), the surface-passivated CdS nanoparticles showed significantly enhanced luminescence properties (quantum efficiency ≅ 20%). The surface passivation by H2O2 injection was characterized using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and time-resolved PL. The photoluminescence enhancement is due to the two-order increase in the radiative recombination rate by the sulfate passivation layer. 相似文献

Aerogels owe their high thermal insulation and other unique properties to their nanostructure configuration. However, controlling the aerogels' morphology is always a scientific challenge. In this study, double dianhydride backbone (double backbone) polyimide aerogels with tailored nanostructure assembly are created for the first time. This is achieved by controlled polymerization reaction of oligomers with distinct dianhydride monomers. Combining the two oligomers through a controlled polymerization reaction is a successful strategy for tailoring the aerogels nanostructure assembly as well as other properties. The fabricated double backbone aerogel presents 40% reduced thermal conductivity of 19.7 mW mK?1 over previously studied polyimide aerogels along with the compression modulus of 1.64 MPa at a relatively low density of 0.068 g cm?3. Such low thermal conductivity is comparable with the inorganic counterparts. Light in weight and high thermally insulated polyimide aerogels with suitable mechanical properties and high service temperature are an appropriate replacement for current fireproof insulation materials. 相似文献

Hydrogels based on gamma (γ) irradiated chitosan (pre-irradiated), guar gum, and polyvinyl pyrrolidone were crosslinked with various concentrations of (3-mercapto propyl)trimethoxysilane and fabricated by solution casting technique for the drug delivery applications. High molecular weight chitosan (Ch) possesses lower solubility and higher viscosity, these problems overcame by γ irradiation, which also generated hydrophilicity and effect of irradiated Ch on controlled drug release was assessed. FTIR analysis showed the development of chemical and physical interactions and confirmed the incorporation of characteristic peaks. SEM micrographs revealed porous structure of the prepared hydrogels. Swelling analysis of the hydrogels was performed in distilled water, buffer, and electrolyte mediums. All the hydrogel samples showed higher swelling at acidic pH and lower swelling at neutral and basic pH. These pH-responsive characteristics made these RCGP hydrogels an important contender for injectable controlled drug release. The ampicillin sodium drug was loaded and in vitro controlled release mechanism was evaluated in the PBS, SIF, and SGF which shown out of all prepared hydrogels (RCGP-1, RCGP-2, and RCGP-3), RCGP-1 has exhibited 87.4% release in PBS and 81.3% in SIF in 180 min. 相似文献

Adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (Ad-MSCs) are a promising tool for articular cartilage repair and regeneration. However, the terminal hypertrophic differentiation of Ad-MSC-derived cartilage is a critical barrier during hyaline cartilage regeneration. In this study, we investigated the role of matrilin-3 in preventing Ad-MSC-derived chondrocyte hypertrophy in vitro and in an osteoarthritis (OA) destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) model. Methacrylated hyaluron (MAHA) (1%) was used to encapsulate and make scaffolds containing Ad-MSCs and matrilin-3. Subsequently, the encapsulated cells in the scaffolds were differentiated in chondrogenic medium (TGF-β, 1–14 days) and thyroid hormone hypertrophic medium (T3, 15–28 days). The presence of matrilin-3 with Ad-MSCs in the MAHA scaffold significantly increased the chondrogenic marker and decreased the hypertrophy marker mRNA and protein expression. Furthermore, matrilin-3 significantly modified the expression of TGF-β2, BMP-2, and BMP-4. Next, we prepared the OA model and transplanted Ad-MSCs primed with matrilin-3, either as a single-cell suspension or in spheroid form. Safranin-O staining and the OA score suggested that the regenerated cartilage morphology in the matrilin-3-primed Ad-MSC spheroids was similar to the positive control. Furthermore, matrilin-3-primed Ad-MSC spheroids prevented subchondral bone sclerosis in the mouse model. Here, we show that matrilin-3 plays a major role in modulating Ad-MSCs’ therapeutic effect on cartilage regeneration and hypertrophy suppression. 相似文献

Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) is a potent tumor promoter and highly inflammatory in nature. Here, we investigated the toxic effects of PMA on different model system. PMA (10 μg) caused chromosomal aberrations on the Allium cepa root tip and induced mitotic dysfunction. Similarly, PMA caused embryonic and larval deformities and a plummeted survivability rate on zebrafish embryo in a dose-dependent manner. Persistently, PMA treatment on immortalized human keratinocyte human keratinocyte (HaCaT) cells caused massive inflammatory rush at 4 h and a drop in cell survivability at 24 h. Concomitantly, we replicated a cutaneous inflammation similar to human psoriasis induced by PMA. Herein, we used tangeretin (TAN), as an antagonist to counteract the inflammatory response. Results from an in vivo experiment indicated that TAN (10 and 30 mg/kg) significantly inhibited PMA stimulated epidermal hyperplasia and intra-epidermal neutrophilic abscesses. In addition, its treatment effectively neutralized PMA induced elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation on in vitro and in vivo systems, promoting antioxidant response. The association of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α)-nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated b cells (NF-κB) crosstalk triggered by PMA enhanced PKCα-ERK1/2-NF-κB pathway; its activation was also significantly counteracted after TAN treatment. Conclusively, we demonstrated TAN inhibited the nuclear translocation of HIF-1α and NF-κB p65. Collectively, TAN treatment ameliorated PMA incited malignant inflammatory response by remodeling the cutaneous microenvironment. 相似文献
