Secondary protonated calcium phosphates such as brushite (CaHPO4·2H2O) or monetite (CaHPO4) have a higher resorption potential in bone defects than sintered ceramics, e.g. tricalcium phosphate or hydroxyapatite. However, processing of these phosphates to monolithic blocks or granules is not possible by sintering due to thermal decomposition of protonated phosphates at higher temperatures. In this study a low temperature technique for the preparation of spherical brushite granules in a cement setting reaction is presented. These granules were synthesized by dispersing a calcium phosphate cement paste composed of β-tricalcium phosphate and monocalcium phosphate together with a surfactant to an oil/water emulsion. The reaction products were characterized regarding their size distribution, morphology, and phase composition. Clinically relevant granule sizes ranging from 200?μm to 1?mm were obtained, whereas generally smaller granules were received with higher oil viscosity, increasing temperature or higher powder to liquid ratios of the cement paste. The hardened granules were microporous with a specific surface area of 0.7?m2/g and consisted of plate-like brushite (>95?% according to XRD) crystals of 0.5–7?μm size. Furthermore it was shown that the granules may be also used for drug delivery applications. This was demonstrated by adsorption of vancomycin from an aqueous solution, where a load of 1.45–1.88?mg drug per g granules and an almost complete release within 2?h was obtained.  相似文献

Stationary phases with embedded polar groups possess several advantages over conventional alkylsilane phases, such as reduced peak tailing, enhanced selectivity for specific functional groups, and the ability to use a highly aqueous mobile phase. To gain a deeper understanding of the retentive properties of these reversed-phase packings, molecular simulations were carried out for three different stationary phases in contact with mobile phases of various water/methanol ratios. Two polar-embedded phases were modeled, namely, amide and ether containing, and compared to a conventional octadecylsilane phase. The simulations show that, due to specific hydrogen bond interactions, the polar-embedded phases take up significantly more solvent and are more ordered than their alkyl counterparts. Alkane and alcohol probe solutes indicate that the polar-embedded phases are less retentive than alkyl phases for nonpolar species, whereas polar species are more retained by them due to hydrogen bonding with the embedded groups and the increased amount of solvent within the stationary phase. This leads to a significant reduction of the free-energy barrier for the transfer of polar species from the mobile phase to residual silanols, and this reduced barrier provides a possible explanation for reduced peak tailing.  相似文献

The coupling of phonons to electrons and other phonons plays a defining role in material properties, such as charge and energy transport, light emission, and superconductivity. In atomic solids, phonons are delocalized over the 3D lattice, in contrast to molecular solids where localized vibrations dominate. Here, a hierarchical semiconductor that expands the phonon space by combining localized 0D modes with delocalized 2D and 3D modes is described. This material consists of superatomic building blocks (Re6Se8) covalently linked into 2D sheets that are stacked into a layered van der Waals lattice. Using transient reflectance spectroscopy, three types of coherent phonons are identified: localized 0D breathing modes of isolated superatom, 2D synchronized twisting of superatoms in layers, and 3D acoustic interlayer deformation. These phonons are coupled to the electronic degrees of freedom to varying extents. The presence of local phonon modes in an extended crystal opens the door to controlling material properties from hierarchical phonon engineering.  相似文献

The combination of graphene with semiconductor materials in heterostructure photodetectors enables amplified detection of femtowatt light signals using micrometer‐scale electronic devices. Presently, long‐lived charge traps limit the speed of such detectors, and impractical strategies, e.g., the use of large gate‐voltage pulses, have been employed to achieve bandwidths suitable for applications such as video‐frame‐rate imaging. Here, atomically thin graphene–WS2 heterostructure photodetectors encapsulated in an ionic polymer are reported, which are uniquely able to operate at bandwidths up to 1.5 kHz whilst maintaining internal gain as large as 106. Highly mobile ions and the nanometer‐scale Debye length of the ionic polymer are used to screen charge traps and tune the Fermi level of the graphene over an unprecedented range at the interface with WS2. Responsivity R = 106 A W?1 and detectivity D* = 3.8 × 1011 Jones are observed, approaching that of single‐photon counters. The combination of both high responsivity and fast response times makes these photodetectors suitable for video‐frame‐rate imaging applications.  相似文献

Using tournament theory as a guiding theoretical framework, in this study, we assess the organizational implications of pay dispersion and other pay system characteristics on the likelihood of turnover among individual executives in organizational teams. Specifically, we estimate the effect of these pay system characteristics on executive turnover decisions. We use a multi-industry, multilevel data set composed of executives in publicly held firms to assess the effects of pay dispersion at the individual level. Consistent with previous findings, we find that pay dispersion is associated with an increased likelihood of executive turnover. In addition, we find that other pay characteristics also affect turnover, both directly and through a moderating effect on pay dispersion. Turnover is more likely when executives receive lower portions of overall top management team compensation and when they have more pay at risk. These conditions also moderate the relationship between pay dispersion and individual turnover decisions, as does receiving lower compensation relative to the market. A new analytical method has been developed for the quantification of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in human adipose tissue samples. After Soxhlet extraction and a cleanup procedure using two successive solid-phase extraction cartridges containing acid silica and acid silica: neutral silica:deactivated basic alumina (from top to bottom), detection can been achieved by narrow-bore (0.10-mm i.d.) capillary gas chromatography/electron impact low-resolution mass spectrometry using a large-volume injection technique. Using narrow-bore capillaries, it is possible to analyze complex mixtures in a short time (up to 10 min), saving 50% or more of the analysis time of conventional columns while maintaining a similar resolution power. The method allows the determination of five major PBDE congeners (BDE 28, 47, 99, 100, and 153) at concentrations below 1 ng/g lipid weight. Detection limits in the selected ion mode varied between 0.05 and 0.30 ng/g lipid weight, depending on the degree of bromination. The sensitivity of this method can compete with low-resolution mass spectrometry with electron capture ionization, while a much better selectivity is obtained. Levels of PBDEs in 20 Belgian human adipose tissue samples ranged between 2.18 and 11.70 ng/g lipid weight and were similar to previously reported values from Europe.  相似文献

Summary Measurements of autocorrelation functions extending over a broad time range are reported for a sample of polystyrene in ethyl acetate as a function of temperature between –44°C (-temperature) and 70°C. The corresponding spectra of decay times are obtained by two mathematical methods. The existence of three dynamic processes is shown and their temperature and angular behaviour is studied.  相似文献

Degraders have illustrated that compound-induced proximity to E3 ubiquitin ligases can prompt the ubiquitination and degradation of disease-relevant proteins. Hence, this pharmacology is becoming a promising alternative and complement to available therapeutic interventions (e. g., inhibitors). Degraders rely on protein binding instead of inhibition and, hence, they hold the promise to broaden the druggable proteome. Biophysical and structural biology approaches have been the cornerstone of understanding and rationalizing degrader-induced ternary complex formation. Computational models have now started to harness the experimental data from these approaches with the aim to identify and rationally help design new degraders. This review outlines the current experimental and computational strategies used to study ternary complex formation and degradation and highlights the importance of effective crosstalk between these approaches in the advancement of the targeted protein degradation (TPD) field. As our understanding of the molecular features that govern drug-induced interactions grows, faster optimizations and superior therapeutic innovations for TPD and other proximity-inducing modalities are sure to follow.  相似文献
