In this paper we analyze the impact of memory hierarchies on time-energy trade-off in parallel computations. Contemporary computing systems have deep memory hierarchies with significantly different speeds and power consumptions. This results in nonlinear phenomena in the processing time and energy usage emerging when the size of the computation is growing. In this paper the nonlinear dependence of the time and energy on the size of the solved problem is formalized and verified using measurements in practical computer systems. Then it is applied to formulate a problem of minimum time and minimum energy scheduling parallel processing of divisible loads. Divisible load theory is a scheduling and performance model of data-parallel applications. Mathematical programming is exploited to solve the scheduling problem. A trade-off between energy and schedule length is analyzed and again nonlinear relationships between these two criteria are observed. Further performance analysis reveals that energy consumption and schedule length are ruled by a complex interplay between the costs and speeds of on-core and out-of-core computations, communication delays, and activating new machines. 相似文献
This research focused on determining the sociocultural factors that build the social perception of the social roles of senior citizens in Chile in the 2002–2012 period. For this purpose, public opinion was studied in newspapers El Mercurio and La Cuarta. Specialized opinion included the Senior Citizen Program of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the National Service for Senior Citizens, the Social Observatory for Aging and Old Age of Universidad de Chile, and the Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology of Chile. A comprehensive methodology was used, along with a bibliographical four-stage design. The following ten sociocultural factors were identified: Health and Quality of Life, Studies and Data, Social Images of Aging, Gerontological Concepts and Sociopolitical Participation, Gerontological Policies, Plans and Principles, Aging, Production and Gender, Institutionalization, Demographic Growth, Gerontological Training, and Exclusion and Old Age. This work suggests modifying the conceptual premise that emphasizes the inexistence of a social role for elderly people with a vision centered on the heterogeneity of social roles under permanent sociocultural construction. 相似文献
In sulfate-reducing reactors, it has been reported that the sulfate removal efficiency increases when the COD/SO4(2-) ratio is increased. The start-up of a down-flow fluidized bed reactor constitutes an important step to establish a microbial community in the biofilm able to survive under the operational bioreactor conditions in order to achieve effective removal of both sulfate and organic matter. In this work the influence of COD/SO4(2-) ratio and HRT in the development of a biofilm during reactor start-up (35 days) was studied. The reactor was inoculated with 1.6 g VSS/L of granular sludge, ground low density polyethylene was used as support material; the feed consisted of mineral medium at pH 5.5 containing 1 g COD/L (acetate:lactate, 70:30) and sodium sulfate. Four experiments were conducted at HRT of 1 or 2 days and COD/SO4(2-) ratio of 0.67 or 2.5. The results obtained indicated that a COD/SO4(2-) ratio of 2.5 and HRT 2 days allowed high sulfate and COD removal (66.1 and 69.8%, respectively), whereas maximum amount of attached biomass (1.9 g SVI/L support) and highest sulfate reducing biofilm activity (10.1 g COD-H2S/g VSS-d) was achieved at HRT of 1 day and at COD/sulfate ratios of 0.67 and 2.5, respectively, which suggests that suspended biomass also played a key role in the performance of the reactors. 相似文献
The noncatalytic beta-subunit is responsible for the latency of casein kinase 2 (CK2) activity toward calmodulin. Twenty-one mutants of the beta-subunit bearing either deletions or Ala substitutions for charged residues in the 5-6, 55-70, and 171-178 sequences have been assayed for their ability to substitute for wild-type beta-subunit as a suppressor of activity toward calmodulin. The only mutations that reduced the ability of the beta-subunit to suppress calmodulin phosphorylation activity, though being compatible with normal reconstitution of CK2 holoenzyme, were those affecting Asp55, Glu57 and the whole triplet Glu59-Asp-Glu61. The activity of CK2 holoenzyme, either native or reconstituted, toward calmodulin can be elicited by a variety of polybasic effectors, including polylysine, polyarginine, salmine, and histones H4, H3, and, to a lesser extent, H2a and H2b. Histone H1 and polyamines are conversely ineffective. The latent "calmodulin kinase" activity of CK2 can also be specifically unmasked by a peptide (alpha[66-86]) reproducing a basic insert of the catalytic subunit. This effect is reversed by equimolar addition of a peptide (beta[55-71]) including the 55-64 acidic stretch of the beta-subunit. Comparable polylysine stimulation was observed with the holoenzymes reconstituted with either beta wt or the beta mutants capable of assembling with the alpha-subunit, with the notable exception of those bearing Ala substitutions for acidic residues at positions 55, 57, and 59-61. These were nearly insensitive to 42 nM polylysine, which conversely promotes a more than 10-fold increase of calmodulin phosphorylation with wild-type beta.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS) 相似文献
Metamaterial absorbers have been widely studied and continuously concerned owing to their excellent resonance features of ultra-thin thickness, light-weight, and high absorbance. Their applications, however, are typically restricted by the intrinsic dispersion of materials and strong resonant features of patterned arrays (mainly referring to narrow absorption bandwidth). It is, therefore essential to reassert the principles of building broadband metamaterial absorbers (BMAs). Herein, the research progress of BMAs from principles, design strategies, tunable properties to functional applications are comprehensively and deeply summarized. Physical principles behind broadband absorption are briefly discussed, typical design strategies in realizing broadband absorption are further emphasized, such as top-down lithography, bottom-up self-assembly, and emerging 3D printing technology. Diversified active components choices, including optical response, temperature response, electrical response, magnetic response, mechanical response, and multi-parameter responses, are reviewed in achieving dynamically tuned broadband absorption. Following this, the achievements of various interdisciplinary applications for BMAs in energy-harvesting, photodetectors, radar-IR dual stealth, bolometers, noise absorbing, imaging, and fabric wearable are summarized. Finally, the challenges and perspectives for future development of BMAs are discussed. 相似文献
Two novel transition metal-doped tungsten bronze oxides, Pb2.15Li0.85Nb4.85Ti0.15O15 (PLNT) and Pb2.15Li0.55Nb4.85W0.15O15 (PLNW), are synthesized by high-temperature solid-state reactions. The Rietveld method using the high-resolution synchrotron radiation indicates that PLNT and PLNW crystallize in the orthorhombic polar noncentrosymmetric space group, Pmn21 (no. 31). As a class of tungsten bronze oxide, PLNT and PLNW retain a unique rigid framework composed of d0 transition metal cation (Ti4+ or W6+)-doped highly distorted NbO6 octahedra along with the subsequently generated Pb/LiO12 and PbO15 polyhedra. Interestingly, the d0 transition metal-doped tungsten bronzes, PLNT and PLNW, exhibit extremely large second-harmonic generation (SHG) responses of 56 and 67 × KH2PO4, respectively. The observed immeasurably strong SHG is mainly attributed to a net polarization originating from the alignment of highly distorted NbO6 octahedra with doped transition metals in the frameworks. It is believed that doping transition metal cations at the B-site of the tungsten bronze structures should be an innovative strategy to develop novel high-performance nonlinear optical materials. 相似文献
The timely and accurate identification of traffic signs plays a significant role in realizing the autonomous driving of vehicles. However, the size of traffic signs accounts for a low proportion of the input picture, which increases the difficulty of detection. This paper proposes an improved faster R-CNN traffic sign detection method. ResNet50-D feature extractor, attention-guided context feature pyramid network (ACFPN), and AutoAugment technology are designed for the faster R-CNN model. ResNet50-D is selected as the backbone network to obtain more characteristic information. ACFPN is performed to decrease the loss of contextual information. And data augmentation and transfer learning are adopted to make model training more convenient and time-saving. To prove the availability of the proposed method, we compare it with mainstream approaches (SSD, YOLOv3, RetinaNet, cascade R-CNN, FCOS, and CornerNet-Squeeze) and state-of-the-art methods. Experimental results on the CCTSDB dataset show that the improved faster R-CNN achieves the frames per second of 29.8 and the mean average precision of 99.5%, which is superior to the state-of-the-art methods and more suitable for traffic sign detection. Moreover, the proposed model is extended to the Tsinghua-Tencent 100 K (TT100K) dataset and also achieves a competitive detection result.
