Lithium–sulfur batteries are a promising next‐generation energy storage device owing to their high theoretical capacity and the low cost and abundance of sulfur. However, the low conductivity and loss of active sulfur material during operation greatly limit the rating capabilities and cycling stability of lithium–sulfur batteries. In this work, a unique sulfur host hybrid material comprising nanosized nickel sulfide (NiS) uniformly distributed on 3D carbon hollow spheres (C‐HS) is fabricated using an in situ thermal reduction and sulfidation method. In the hybrid material, the nanosized NiS provides a high adsorption capability for polysulfides and the C‐HS serves as a physical confinement for polysulfides and also a 3D electron transfer pathway. Moreover, NiS has strong chemical coupling with the C‐HS, favoring fast charge transfer and redox kinetics of the sulfur electrode. With a sulfur loading of up to 2.3 mg cm?2, the hybrid material‐based lithium–sulfur batteries offer a capacity decay as low as 0.013% per cycle and a capacity of 695 mA h g?1 at 0.5 C after 300 cycles. This unique 3D hybrid material with strong chemical coupling provides a promising sulfur host for high performance lithium–sulfur batteries. 相似文献

A model of mechanical behavior of microcantilever due to mismatch strain during deposition of MEMS structures is derived. First, a microcantilever, modeled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam, is subjected to deposition of another material and a linear ordinary differential equation which considers the through-thickness variation of the mismatch strain is derived. Second, the deposition analysis is experimentally realized by electroplating of nickel onto an atomic force microscope (AFM) cantilever beam. Young's modulus of the electroplated nickel film is determined by using Sader's method and elementary beam theory. The deflection of the AFM cantilever is in-situ measured as a function of the electroplated thin film thickness through the optical method of AFM and the mismatch strain with the through-thickness variation is determined from the experiment results. 相似文献

Small pulmonary nodules are a common radiographic finding that presents an important diagnostic challenge in contemporary medicine. While pulmonary nodules are the major radiographic indicator of lung cancer, they may also be signs of a variety of benign conditions. Measurement of nodule growth rate over time has been shown to be the most promising tool in distinguishing malignant from nonmalignant pulmonary nodules. In this paper, we describe three-dimensional (3-D) methods for the segmentation, analysis, and characterization of small pulmonary nodules imaged using computed tomography (CT). Methods for the isotropic resampling of anisotropic CT data are discussed. 3-D intensity and morphology-based segmentation algorithms are discussed for several classes of nodules. New models and methods for volumetric growth characterization based on longitudinal CT studies are developed. The results of segmentation and growth characterization methods based on in vivo studies are described. The methods presented are promising in their ability to distinguish malignant from nonmalignant pulmonary nodules and represent the first such system in clinical use. 相似文献

A class of thin, lightweight, flexible, near‐field communication (NFC) devices with ultraminiaturized format is introduced, and systematic investigations of the mechanics, radio frequency characteristics, and materials aspects associated with their optimized construction are presented. These systems allow advantages in mechanical strength, placement versatility, and minimized interfacial stresses compared to other NFC technologies and wearable electronics. Detailed experimental studies and theoretical modeling of the mechanical and electromagnetic properties of these systems establish understanding of the key design considerations. Two long-period gratings (LPGs) fabricated in series in an optical fiber form a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, producing a sinusoidal channelled spectrum within the characteristic LPG attenuation bands, which has the appearance of an interference fringe pattern. The phase of the fringes is sensitive to changes in the surrounding environmental parameters, such as refractive index. Fabrication of a number of identical cascaded LPG pairs with different separations produces independent fringe patterns of different frequencies within the attenuation bands. The application of basic Fourier techniques to analyze the transmission spectrum allows the phase of each fringe pattern to be determined independently, facilitating the differentiation of external effects acting on each interferometer. 相似文献

Comprehensive and systematic electrical and optical activation studies of Si-implanted GaN were made as a function of ion dose and anneal temperature. Silicon ions were implanted at 200 keV with doses ranging from 1×1013 cm?2 to 5×1015 cm?2 at room temperature. The samples were proximity-cap annealed from 1050°C to 1350°C with a 500-Å-thick AlN cap in a nitrogen environment. The optimum anneal temperature for high dose implanted samples is approximately 1350°C, exhibiting nearly 100% electrical activation efficiency. For low dose (≤5×1014 cm?2) samples, the electrical activation efficiencies continue to increase with an anneal temperature through 1350°C. Consistent with the electrical results, the photoluminescence (PL) measurements show excellent implantation damage recovery after annealing the samples at 1350°C for 20 sec, exhibiting a sharp neutral-donor-bound exciton peak along with a sharp donor-acceptor pair peak. The mobilities increase with anneal temperature, and the highest mobility obtained is 250 cm2/Vs. The results also indicate that the AlN cap protected the implanted GaN layer during high-temperature annealing without creating significant anneal-induced damage. 相似文献

A simple, versatile method for non‐covalent functionalization of graphene based on solution‐phase assembly of alkane‐amine layers is presented. Second‐order Møller–Plesset (MP2) perturbation theory on a cluster model (methylamine on pyrene) yields a binding energy of ≈220 meV for the amine–graphene interaction, which is strong enough to enable formation of a stable aminodecane layer at room temperature. Atomistic molecular dynamics simulations on an assembly of 1‐aminodecane molecules indicate that a self‐assembled monolayer can form, with the alkane chains oriented perpendicular to the graphene basal plane. The calculated monolayer height (≈1.7 nm) is in good agreement with atomic force microscopy data acquired for graphene functionalized with 1‐aminodecane, which yield a continuous layer with mean thickness ≈1.7 nm, albeit with some island defects. Raman data also confirm that self‐assembly of alkane‐amines is a non‐covalent process, i.e., it does not perturb the sp2 hybridization of the graphene. Passivation and adsorbate n‐doping of graphene field‐effect devices using 1‐aminodecane, as well as high‐density binding of plasmonic metal nanoparticles and seeded atomic layer deposition of inorganic dielectrics using 1,10‐diaminodecane are also reported. 相似文献

It outlines the magnitude of the existing shortfall in safe water and sanitation services, and how climate change will exacerbate existing problems. It argues that the performance of many governments thus far has lacked urgency and purpose.
