A simple chemical route for the synthesis of PbS nanoparticle coated amorphous carbon nanotubes (aCNTs) was described. The nanocomposite was prepared from an aqueous suspension of acid functionalized aCNTs, lead acetate (PbAc), and thiourea (TU) at room temperature. The phase formation and composition of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive analysis of X-ray studies. The Fourier transformed infrared spectra analysis revealed the attachment of PbS nanoparticles on the acid functionalized aCNT surfaces. Morphology of the samples was analyzed with a field emission scanning electron microscope. UV-Vis study also confirmed the attachment of PbS nanoparticles on the walls of aCNTs. Thermal gravimetric analysis showed that the PbS coated aCNTs are more thermally stable than functionalized aCNTs. The PbS coated aCNTs showed enhanced field emission properties with a turn-on field 3.34 V μm−1 and the result is comparable to that of pure crystalline CNTs. 相似文献

Several different organic materials, typical of those used in passive treatment systems for mine influenced water, were tested for their ability to support sulfate-reducing bacteria and sulfate reduction in an anaerobic biological reactor (ABR). The quantity of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in each organic material, as determined using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (q-PCR) of the dissimilatory sulfite reductase (dsr) gene, correlated with the initial C/N ratio of each material. Potential sulfate reduction rates measured in the laboratory ranked silage > compost = molasses/hay > cattails > pulp mill biosolids and correlated with the q-PCR estimates of SRB in the submerged materials. A comparison of bacterial communities using 16S rRNA gene clone library sequencing revealed similar distribution of clones among the phyla Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes and Proteobacteria for silage, compost and molasses/hay after 174 days of exposure in the seepage water. Silage, the most successful material tested, contained more δ-Proteobacteria-related sequences than the other materials and Spirochaetes-related clones were more abundant in silage than in compost or molasses/hay. According to sequenced dsr clones, the SRB community in silage differed from that for compost and molasses/hay, with fewer Desulfovibrio- and more Desulfomicrobium-related sequences in the silage. Pulp mill biosolids used in the ABR since 2004 contained an overall bacterial community that was more diverse than those for the freshly submerged organics, but only Desulfovibrio desulfuricans-related sequences were found in the dsr library. 相似文献

Roads represent an important landscape element affecting both biotic and abiotic components. Alteration of soil properties along roads (addition of nutrients) is assumed to have a great impact on vegetation structure especially in nutrient poor ecosystems. Existing studies focus mainly on road dust. In our study we assessed the overall effects of roads upon adjacent alpine tundra vegetation and soils in Krkonoše Mts, Czech Republic. Our aims were to (1) reconstruct the road-related changes using aerial data and GPS mapping to study colonization of roadside plant species; (2) assess the road effects on physical-chemical soil properties and vegetation composition along transects; and (3) propose conservation measures to stop further damage. Changes were reconstructed from historical multispectral aerial photography (1986 to 1997), measured by GPS device (1997, 2004), and accompanied by detailed soil (1998, 2000 and 2001) and vegetation (2000 and 2004) surveys along transects. Along alkaline roads, fast and profound shifts in physical-chemical soil properties (pH increased from 3.9 up to 7.6, base saturation from 9-30% up to 100%), and species composition were recorded. The roadside vegetation doubled in area during the studied decade. Stress-tolerant tundra species were replaced by meso- to nitrophilous species and species preferring man-made habitats. The intensity of changes depended significantly on the type of road material and the position relative to the road (slope position, distance from the road). Our findings support the assumption that alkaline gravel is the main cause of changes along roads in the area, and indicate the leading role of water transport in the soil and consequent vegetation alteration. To prevent the further damage we recommended replacement of alkaline gravel by granite, even though expensive and technically complicated. A new class of biofriendly ionogels produced by gelation of microcellulose thin films with tailored 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium methylphosphonate ionic liquids are demonstrated. The cellulose ionogels show promising properties for application in flexible electronics, such as transparency, flexibility, transferability, and high specific capacitances of 5 to 15 μF cm?2. They can be laminated onto any substrate such as multilayer‐coated paper and act as high capacitance dielectrics for inorganic (spray‐coated ZnO and colloidal ZnO nanorods) and organic (poly[3‐hexylthiophene], P3HT) electrolyte‐gated field‐effect transistors (FETs), that operate at very low voltages (<2 V). Field‐effect mobilities in ionogel‐gated spray‐coated ZnO FETs reach 75 cm2 V?1 s?1 and a typical increase of mobility with decreasing specific capacitance of the ionogel is observed. Solution‐processed, colloidal ZnO nanorods and laminated cellulose ionogels enable the fabrication of the first electrolyte‐gated, flexible circuits on paper, which operate at bending radii down to 1.1 mm. 相似文献

Radiocarbon analysis of atmospheric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from three background areas in Sweden, Croatia, and Greece was performed to apportion their origin between fossil and biomass combustion. Diagnostic ratios of PAHs implied that wood and coal combustion was relatively more important in the northern European site, while combustion of fossil fuels was the dominant source of PAHs to the two central-southern European background sites. The radiocarbon content (delta14C) of atmospheric PAHs in Sweden ranged between -388 per thousand and -381 per thousand, while more depleted values were observed for Greece (-914 per thousand) and Croatia (-888 per thousand). Using a 14C isotopic mass balance model it was calculated that biomass burning contributes nearly 10% of the total PAH burden in the studied southern European atmosphere with fossil fuel combustion making up the 90% balance. In contrast, biomass burning contributes about 50% of total PAHs in the atmosphere at the Swedish site. Our results suggest that the relative contributions of biomass burning and fossil fuels to atmospheric PAHs may differ considerably between countries, and therefore, different national control strategies might be needed if a further reduction of these pollutants is to be achieved on a continental-global scale. 相似文献

Thermal expansion property at 288°C and methylene chloride resistance of poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether (PPE)/epoxy laminate were found to be affected by the functionality on PPE resin. Nonlofting PPE/epoxy laminates were prepared with the PPE grafted with fumaric acid or the PPE having (di-n-butylamino) methyl substituent on the polymer backbone. Employing vacuum-vented PPE extrudate or phenol-redistributed PPE was also effective in improving the PPE/epoxy laminate properties. The influence of the spatial arrangement of aggregates on the cold crushing strength (CCS) of refractory castables is studied by means of methods of point process statistics. Two series of self-flowing refractory castables differing in the kind of aggregates used (tabular alumina, corundum balls) are analysed using quantitative image analysis and methods of spatial statistics. Their spatial variability is described by means of the pair correlation function (pcf) and the density function of the nearest neighbour distance (nnd) distribution.
