The 4 sets of column heads ("Adjusted" and "Unadjusted") were inadvertently transposed. The corrected table is provided. (The following abstract of this article originally appeared in record 1999-00166-008): This study tested whether dispositional measures of optimism, pessimism, and anxiety affected ambulatory blood pressure (BP) and mood and whether any cardiovascular effects of dispositions were moderated by mood. Pessimistic and anxious adults had higher BP levels and felt more negative and less positive than did optimists or low anxious adults throughout the monitoring. The few times that optimists did feel negative were associated with levels of BP as high as those observed among pessimists or anxious individuals, regardless of their mood. To the extent that trait anxiety measures neuroticism, these findings suggest that neuroticism is directly related to health indicators rather than simply to illness behavior. Microtiter plate methods were developed for the enzymatic determination of serum total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein
cholesterol (HDL-C) and triglyceride (TG), and for the turbidometric determination of apolipoproteins. The micromethods resulted
in accurate, precise values that were in good agreement with the conventional spectrophotometric assays. The coefficient of
variation for TC determinations was 4.5% or less and bias was 5% or less. The lipid micromethod assays are sensitive to 10
mg/dL or less, and the apolipoprotein assay to 1 mg/dL. Less than 100 μL of serum suffices for TC, TG and apoprotein assays;
HDL-C requires an additional 100 μL of serum. Advantages of the micromethods include reductions in assay time and in the amount

The world is increasingly developing towards complex and chaotic behaviour. Enterprises are challenged to establish flexible but trustworthy structures of doing business within global instability. We need to educate our students today for coping with such chaotic patterns in their professional future. As an example, the student-run Europe-wide organisation ESTIEM is offering the 2-week Summer Academy (SAC) to develop the communication skills corresponding. It also means among other aims to strengthen mutual trust through interaction of the students. In 2011, one of the SAC took place in Serbia. About 15 students attended it from all over Europe. In the paper, three of these students report on their experiences as a set of suggestions of how to develop further engineering and economics teaching towards international trust and stability. 相似文献

This study examined mood disturbance among women with metastatic breast cancer in relationship to partnership status, relationship quality, and partner's coping and mood disturbance. These associations were examined within a total sample of 125 metastatic breast cancer patients and a subsample of 48 of these patients and their partners. Partnered and single women were indistinguishable in mood disturbance when household income was statistically controlled. Results also showed that patients were less distressed when they rated the relationship higher in Cohesion-Expression and in Conflict and when their partners reported lower mood disturbance. One possible implication of these results is that in relationships in which a woman has metastatic cancer, she may benefit from open engagement of difficulties and conflict. Ruthenium complexes with the formulae Ru(CO)2(PR3)2(O2CPh)2 [ 6a – h ; R=n‐Bu, p‐MeO‐C6H4, p‐Me‐C6H4, Ph, p‐Cl‐C6H4, m‐Cl‐C6H4, p‐CF3‐C6H4, m,m′‐(CF3)2C6H3] were prepared by treatment of triruthenium dodecacarbonyl [Ru3(CO)12] with the respective phosphine and benzoic acid or by the conversion of Ru(CO)3(PR3)2 ( 8e – h ) with benzoic acid. During the preparation of 8 , ruthenium hydride complexes of type Ru(CO)(PR3)3(H)2 ( 9g , h ) could be isolated as side products. The molecular structures of the newly synthesized complexes in the solid state are discussed. Compounds 6a – h were found to be highly effective catalysts in the addition of carboxylic acids to propargylic alcohols to give valuable β‐oxo esters. The catalyst screening revealed a considerably influence of the phosphine′s electronic nature on the resulting activities. The best performances were obtained with complexes 6g and 6h , featuring electron‐withdrawing phosphine ligands. Additionally, catalyst 6g is very active in the conversion of sterically demanding substrates, leading to a broad substrate scope. The catalytic preparation of simple as well as challenging substrates succeeds with catalyst 6g in yields that often exceed those of established literature systems. Furthermore, the reactions can be carried out with catalyst loadings down to 0.1 mol% and reaction temperatures down to 50 °C.

Blueberry fruit polyphenolics suppress oxidative stress‐induced skeletal muscle cell damage in vitro

Skeletal muscle damage can result from disease and unaccustomed or excessive exercise. Muscle dysfunction occurs via an increased level of reactive oxygen species and hence there is potential in antioxidants as amelioration strategies. We explored the putative benefit of fruit polyphenolic extracts in reducing the susceptibility of skeletal muscle cells to oxidative stress. Muscle myotubes were simultaneously challenged with fruit extracts (1–50 μg/mL) and calcium ionophore (A23187), hydrogen peroxide, or 2,4‐dinitrophenol and damage monitored by release of cytosolic enzymes. A blueberry fruit extract displayed a potent and significant dose‐dependant protective capacity. Evaluation of the protective capacity of anthocyanin sub‐extracts of blueberry fruit and pure individual glycosides, with identification of extract polyphenolic components using MS, suggested that malvidin galactoside and/or glucoside were the active compounds. These in vitro data support the concept that blueberry fruits or derived foods rich in malvidin glycosides may be beneficial in alleviating muscle damage caused by oxidative stress. More research on the benefits of blueberry fruit consumption in human intervention studies is warranted. 相似文献

Grids currently in production can be broadly classified as either service Grids, composed of dedicated resources, or opportunistic Grids that harvest the computing power of non-dedicated resources when they are idle. While a service Grid provides high and well defined levels of quality of service, an opportunistic Grid provides only a best-effort service. Nevertheless, since opportunistic Grids do not require resources to be fully dedicated to the Grid, they have the potential to assemble a much larger number of resources. Moreover, these Grids cater very well to the execution of the so-called embarrassingly parallel applications, a type of application that is frequently found in practice, and that comprises the largest portion of the typical workload processed in production Grid systems. The EELA-2 e-infrastructure is comprised of a service Grid and an opportunistic Grid that federates computing resources from scientific institutions in both Europe and Latin America. Due to the complementary characteristics of these two types of Grids, a lot of attention has recently been placed in how to interoperate them. In this paper we focus on the less studied problem of assessing the feasibility of such interoperation. We analyse different prioritisation policies that define when the resources of one Grid can be used to run jobs originating from the other. Our results show that in the absence of a suitable prioritisation policy, the benefits that the users of one Grid may have, frequently come with an important negative impact on the users of the other Grid. We also show that a simple reciprocation mechanism is capable of arbitrating the interoperation in such a way that, whenever possible, users profit from the interoperation and, in no case, this benefit leads to a noticeable reduction on the quality of service that the users would experience were the Grids not to interoperate. We conclude discussing how we have implemented, in the context of the EELA-2 project, this prioritisation mechanism, allowing the effective interoperation of a service Grid based on the gLite middleware with an opportunistic Grid that uses the OurGrid middleware. 相似文献

The thyroid hormone derivative 3-iodothyronamine (3-T1AM) exerts metabolic effects in vivo that contradict known effects of thyroid hormones. 3-T1AM acts as a trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) agonist and activates Gs signaling in vitro. Interestingly, 3-T1AM-meditated in vivo effects persist in Taar1 knockout-mice indicating that further targets of 3-T1AM might exist. Here, we investigated another member of the TAAR family, the only scarcely studied mouse and human trace-amine-associated receptor 8 (Taar8b, TAAR8). By RT-qPCR and locked-nucleic-acid (LNA) in situ hybridization, Taar8b expression in different mouse tissues was analyzed. Functionally, we characterized TAAR8 and Taar8b with regard to cell surface expression and signaling via different G-protein-mediated pathways. Cell surface expression was verified by ELISA, and cAMP accumulation was quantified by AlphaScreen for detection of Gs and/or Gi/o signaling. Activation of G-proteins Gq/11 and G12/13 was analyzed by reporter gene assays. Expression analyses revealed at most marginal Taar8b expression and no gender differences for almost all analyzed tissues. In heart, LNA-in situ hybridization demonstrated the absence of Taar8b expression. We could not identify 3-T1AM as a ligand for TAAR8 and Taar8b, but both receptors were characterized by a basal Gi/o signaling activity, a so far unknown signaling pathway for TAARs. 相似文献
