Synthetic resin Dowex 1X8 was functionalized with α-Nitroso β-Naphthol (Dowex-αNβN) and with 8-Hydroxy Quinoline (Dowex-8HQ) to form chelating resin. The resultant chelating resins were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The efficiency of these resins for the removal/preconcentration of Pb (II) from aqueous samples was evaluated. Optimum conditions of pH, time of equilibrium, and sample volume were investigated for maximum retention of Pb (II) from aqueous solutions. At optimum conditions, 100% adsorption was observed for the functionalized resins. Both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms were applied to the adsorption data and it was observed that data fits well to Langmuir isotherm. Various parameters such as shaking time, type, and concentration of eluents were investigated for the recovery of Pb (II) from the chelating resins. For Dowex-αNβN and Dowex-8HQ, 100% recovery with a preconcentration factor of 100 was achieved with 0.5 and 2 M HCl, respectively. The selectivity and specificity of the functionalized resins was also evaluated by studying the effect of various foreign ions and the results have been compared with the unmodified Dowex.  相似文献

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-directed radioligand therapy (RLT) prolongs overall survival in men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). However, men with low PSMA expression are excluded from RLT. We explored the effect of androgen receptor blockade with enzalutamide on PSMA expression. Assessment of PSMA and androgen receptor (AR) expression on the human PC cell lines 22Rv1, C4-2, and LNCaP by immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry revealed low (22Rv1) and high (C4-2 and LNCaP) PSMA expression, and high, comparable AR positivity. Treatment with enzalutamide increased PSMA levels in 22Rv1, C4-2, and LNCaP (2.2/2.3/2.6-fold, p = 0.0005/0.03/0.046) after one week compared to DMSO-treated controls as assessed by flow cytometry. NOD/Scid mice bearing 22Rv1 tumors were treated with enzalutamide for two weeks. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) demonstrated higher tumor uptake of 68Ga-PSMA after enzalutamide treatment (p = 0.004). Similarly, a clinical case with low baseline PSMA avidity demonstrated increased uptake of 68Ga-PSMA after enzalutamide on PET/CT and post-therapeutic 177Lu-PSMA scintigraphy in a patient with mCRPC. Enzalutamide induced PSMA expression in the 22Rv1 xenograft model and in an mCRPC patient, both with low baseline tumoral PSMA levels. Therefore, enzalutamide pre-treatment might render patients with low PSMA expression eligible for 177Lu-PSMA RLT.  相似文献

Photodegradation of polymer coatings generally involves photooxidation, resulting in the formation of oxidized products, chain scission, and crosslinking. On severe exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light in the presence of air, chemical degradation transforms into substantial changes in the physical and mechanical properties, leading to failures of the coatings. Systematic research by NIST on service life prediction of polymeric coatings indicates that the degradation of polymer coatings starts from the sub-micrometer degradation-susceptible regions at the surface and then grows in width and depth. Additionally, due to the oxygen diffusion effect and the attenuation of the UV light passing through the polymer, the degradation can be spatially heterogeneous. In this study, the changes with depth of the mechanical and chemical properties of a UV-exposed epoxy/polyurethane system were measured by nanoindentation and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) microscopy using cross-sectioned specimens. Multilayers of epoxy/polyurethane samples were prepared by a draw-down technique. After curing, samples were exposed to the outdoors in Gaithersburg, MD, for four months. Cross-sectioned slices of the exposed and unexposed samples, approximately 500 nm thick as-prepared by microtoming, were used for micro-FTIR imaging. Samples for nanoindentation were prepared by embedding the epoxy/polyurethane multilayers (both exposed and unexposed) in a molding compound, followed by microtoming and polishing the embedded films in the thickness direction. Micro-FTIR images clearly show that, for the outdoor exposed samples, substantial amounts of oxidation products are distributed in the 60 μm deep region from the surface to the epoxy bulk, decreasing in the center of epoxy region and increasing again toward the epoxy/urethane interface. Nanoindentation results also show that the modulus significantly increases in the first 60 μm region after UV degradation, and then decreases gradually with depth until a value slightly higher than the modulus of the undegraded epoxy is reached. The modulus rises again in the region near the epoxy/urethane interface. These similarities in the depth profiles of the properties indicate the linkage between the chemical degradation and the mechanical degradation. The study clearly shows that the spatial distribution of chemical species and mechanical properties is heterogeneous in the thickness direction for polymer coatings after UV degradation. It also demonstrates that cross-sectional analysis using nanoindentation and micro-FTIR imaging techniques is a useful method to characterize the mechanical and chemical depth profiles of polymer coating degradation.

Correct species identification is a precondition for many ecological studies. Morphologically highly similar, i.e., cryptic, species are an important component of biodiversity but particularly difficult to discriminate and therefore understudied ecologically. To find new methods for their rapid identification, thus, is important. The cuticle's chemical signature of insects often is unique for species. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) can capture such signatures. Imaging NIRS facilitates precise positioning of the measurement area on biological objects and high-resolution spatial capturing. Here, we tested the applicability of imaging NIRS to the discrimination of cryptic species by using the ants Tetramorium caespitum and T. impurum. The classification success of Partial Least Squares Regression was 98.8%. Principal Component Analysis grouped spectra of some T. impurum individuals with T. caespitum. Combined with molecular-genetic and morphological evidence, this result enabled us to pose testable hypotheses about the biology of these species. We conclude that discrimination of T. caespitum and T. impurum with imaging NIRS is possible, promising that imaging NIRS could become a time- and cost-efficient tool for the reliable discrimination of cryptic species. This and the direct facilitation of potential biological insight beyond species identification underscore the value of imaging NIRS to ecology.  相似文献

Langmuir films of long chain Schiff base compounds: N-(4-fluorobenzylidene)hexadecanamine (compound 1), N-(4-fluorobenzylidene)octadecanamine (compound 2) and 4-{[(4-fluorobenzylidene)amino]methyl}-N-hexadecylaniline (compound 3) have been studied at air/water interface using the characteristic surface pressure-molecular area (π-A) and surface potential-molecular area (ΔV-A) isotherms. Photoelastic modulated Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy has been used to analyze the films of the three compounds at air/water interface. The Langmuir-Blodgett films of these compounds have been characterized using X-ray diffraction that shows layered structures, with interlayer distances of up to 4.4 nm for compound 3. The results show that the layer-to-layer distance can be easily and rationally designed by choosing alkyl chains of different lengths and spacer. Compound 3 packs in an interdigitated bilayer structure with longer lamellar spacing whereas compounds 1 and 2 show a noninterdigitated monolayer structure. Atomistic model calculations have been carried out on the three compounds and the dipole moment values obtained agreed well with the experimental results of surface potential in Langmuir films. Among the three compounds, compound 3 forms stable vesicles spontaneously at room temperature.  相似文献

Background soils were collected from 70 locations on a latitudinal transect in the United Kingdom and Norway in 2008, ten years after they had first been sampled in 1998. The soils were analyzed for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and organochlorine pesticides (OCs), to see whether there had been any change in the loadings or distributions of these persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The same transect has also been used to sample air between the mid-1990s and the present, so the air and soil spatial and temporal trends provide information on air-soil transfers, source-receptor relationships, long-range atmospheric transport (LRAT), and recycling phenomena. Comparisons of the 2008 and 1998 data sets show a general decline for PBDEs in surface soil, and a smaller averaged net decline of PCBs. Changes between the years were observed for total POP concentrations in soil and also for correlations with site and sample characteristics assumed to affect those concentrations. POP concentrations were correlated to distance and strength of possible sources, a relationship that became weaker in the 2008 data. Fractionation, a commonly discussed process for the global cycling of POPs was also lost in the 2008 data. As in 1998, soil organic matter content continues to have a strong influence on the loadings of POPs in surface soils, but changes in the PCB loads were noted. These factors indicate an approach to air-surface soil equilibrium and a lessening of the influence of primary sources on POP concentrations in soil between 1998 and 2008.  相似文献

Adsorption of arsenic on polyaluminum granulate   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The kinetics and efficiencies of arsenite and arsenate removal from water were evaluated using polyaluminum granulates (PAG) with high content of aluminum nanoclusters. PAG was characterized to be meso- and macroporous, with a specific surface area of 35 ± 1 m(2) g(-1). Adsorption experiments were conducted at pH 7.5 in deionized water and synthetic water with composition of As-contaminated groundwater in the Pannonian Basin. As(III) and As(V) sorption was best described by the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm, respectively, with a maximum As(V) uptake capacity of ~200 μmol g(-1) in synthetic water. While As(III) removal reached equilibrium within 40 h, As(V) was removed almost entirely within 20 h. Micro X-ray fluorescence and electron microscopy revealed that As(III) was distributed uniformly within the grain, whereas As(V) diffused up to 81 μm into PAG. The results imply that As(V) is adsorbed 3 times faster while being transported 10(5) times slower than As(III) in Al hydroxide materials.  相似文献

(1) Objective: In order to evaluate the effect of a pre-induced mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-coated cellulose/collagen nanofibrous nerve conduit on facial nerve regeneration in a rat model both in vitro and in vivo. (2) Methods: After fabrication of the cellulose/collagen nanofibrous conduit, its lumen was coated with either MSCs or pre-induced MSCs. The nerve conduit was then applied to the defective main trunk of the facial nerve. Rats were randomly divided into three treatment groups (n = 10 in each): cellulose/collagen nanofiber (control group), cellulose/collagen nanofiber/MSCs (group I), and cellulose/collagen nanofiber/pre-induced MSCs (group II). (3) Results Fibrillation of the vibrissae of each group was observed, and action potential threshold was compared 8 weeks post-surgery. Histopathological changes were also observed. Groups I and II showed better recovery of vibrissa fibrillation than the control group. (4) Conclusions: Group II, treated with the pre-induced MSC-coated cellulose/collagen nanofibrous nerve conduit, showed the highest degree of recovery based on functional and histological evaluations.  相似文献
