Thymus vulgaris has a chemical polymorphism with six different chemotypes that show marked spatial segregation in nature. Although some populations have a single chemotype in majority, many have two or three chemotypes. In this study we analyze the quantitative variation among T. vulgaris populations in the percentage of oil composed of the dominant monoterpene(s) for each chemotype. In general, phenolic chemotypes (thymol and carvacrol), which occur at the end of the biosynthetic chain, have a significantly lower proportion of their oil composed of their dominant monoterpene than nonphenolic chemotypes (geraniol, -terpineol, and linalool). This is due to the presence of high amounts of precursors (-terpinene and paracymene) in the oil of phenolic chemotypes. The essential oil of the nonphenolic thuyanol chemotype has four characteristic monoterpenes that together make up a lower proportion of the oil than the single dominant monoterpene of the other nonphenolic chemotypes. For all chemotypes, the percentage composition of the dominant monoterpene decreased significantly at sites where the chemotype is not the majority type. This decrease is correlated with a significant increase in either the proportion of the two precursors for the thymol chemotype or the monoterpenes characteristic of the other chemotypes at the site. The latter result suggests that a plant with dominant genes is responsible for the production of different monoterpenes can produce several molecules.  相似文献

Arsenic removal by adsorption on iron(III) phosphate   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Under natural conditions, arsenic is often associated with iron oxides and iron(III) oxidative capacity towards As(III) is well known. In this study, As(III) and As(V) removal was performed using synthesised iron(III) phosphate, either amorphous or crystalline. This solid can combine (i) As(III) oxidation by iron(III) and (ii) phosphate substitution by As(V) due to their similar properties. Results showed that adsorption capacities were higher towards As(III), leading to Fe2+ and HAsO4(2-) leaching. Solid dissolution and phosphate/arsenate exchange led to the presence of Fe3+ and PO4(3-) in solution, therefore various precipitates involving As(V) can be produced: with Fe2+ as Fe3(AsO4)2.8H2O(s) and with Fe3+ as FeAsO4.2H2O(s). Such formations have been assessed by thermodynamic calculations. This sorbent can be a potential candidate for industrial waste treatment, although the high release of phosphate and iron will exclude its application in drinking water plants.  相似文献

After oral administration, drug absorption rate is recognized to be dependent on two major factors: dissolution and intestinal cells permeability. Caco-2 monolayer cells have been largely used as a permeation study model. In this study, a numerical approach funded on an exponential first-order time relationship was tested to compare immediate- and controlled-release tablets of theophylline using a dissolution-permeation system. The dissolution performance using USP II paddle apparatus was coupled to the permeability studies investigated in Caco-2 cell monolayers. The dissolved samples were taken at different times; their pH and osmolarity were adjusted to render them suitable to Caco-2 permeability studies (osmolarity = 300 mosm, pH = 7.4). The experimental data show that the dissolution fits the exponential first-order relationship rate. The permeability values were in a range of 4.45 10(- 6)-5.28 10(- 6) cm/s, and percentages of absorbed drug dose were dependent on the fraction initially present in the donor compartment, indicating that absorption of theophylline was dissolution rate limited. Plotting experimental absorbed fractions (F(a)) against experimental dissolved fractions (F(d)) show that permeation is the rate-limiting step in drug absorption process in the extended release form of theophylline. Our results demonstrate a general agreement between observed F(a)/F(d) relationships and theoretical F(a)/F(d) relationships obtained with our approach funded on dissolution and permeation behavior. We concluded that the couple dissolution-caco-2 system could be a useful tool to characterize intestinal permeation for a new formulation of a drug compared with the conventional one.  相似文献

This article deals with the numerical study of the singularities appearing in the spectral 3-D Green's function associated with the piezoelectric surface acoustic wave components (so-called SAW components). These electrical units are currently used today in several devices produced by the telecommunications industry (radio, TV, radar, and digital telecommunication systems). The need to improve their performance has motivated engineers and researchers to use mathematical modeling intensively, in particular the integral equations technique here used, which requires the computing of the associated Green's function and the study of its properties.  相似文献

Changes of alertness and cognitive efficiency has been suggested in people whose circadian rhythms are disrupted, e.g. night or shift-workers. Data from field and laboratory studies have demonstrated short-term cognitive disturbances related to circadian rhythm disruption. By contrast, little is known about the long-term consequences of chronic sleep deprivation, as can be observed with shift-work, on cognitive abilities. The present paper is aimed at evaluating, on a large cross-sectional sample of workers, the long-term influence of shift-work on verbal memory and speed performances. Participants were 3,237 workers aged 32, 42, 52, and 62 years of various occupational statuses included in the VISAT (Aging, Health and Work) cohort. Data collected by questionnaires included items on working hours and shift-work and sleep disorders. Cognitive abilities were assessed using neuropsychological tests. Current male shift-workers had lower cognitive performance than never exposed workers. In the same population, memory performance tended to decrease with increasing shift-work duration. Among former shift-workers, the cognitive performance of the participant having stopped shiftwork more than 4 years ago seemed to be increased, suggesting a possible reversibility of effects. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that cognitive functioning tends to be impaired by a long-term exposure to SW. As found by other authors, neuropsychological performance tends to decrease with the increases in the duration of exposure to SW.  相似文献

In a D4h site with a strong elongation the 3A2g term of cobalt (+III) can be stabilized with an electronic configuration intermediate between low spin (1A1g) and high spin (5Eg): d2xzd2yzd1xyd1z2d0x2?y2. The La2Li0.5Co0.5O4 phase, whose layer structure favours strongly such a distortion of the CoO6 octahedra, illustrates very well this possibility for cobalt (+III). 1A1g3A2g and 1A1g5Eg transitions appear as the temperature increases.  相似文献

A study of the sulfidation kinetics of thin copper wires and whiskers showed that cavity formation caused by metal consumption starts at the metal-sulfide interface and grows inwards as the reaction proceeds. The cavity does not start in the middle and expand outwards. An exterior honeycombed region is formed which is traversed by metal bridges and filaments linking the internal metal core to the sulfide. The bridges assure the metal supply and only disappear when conversion is virtually completed. The authors suggest a theoretical interpretation which accounts for these observations.  相似文献

Investigation of mixed ferrites La1?xCaxFeIII1?τFeIVτO3?y (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.05, 0 ≤ y ≤ 0.07) has been carried out by magnetic, electrical and Mössbauer resonance measurements. Mössbauer spectra at low temperature can be interpreted assuming a disproportionation of tetravalent iron according to a scheme previously proposed for CaFeO3: 2 FeIV → FeIII + FeV. Electrical measurements show an increasing electronic localization when the temperature is decreased. This result corroborates the proposed model which moreover corresponds to a stabilization of the isotropic configurations t32ge2g of FeIII and t32ge0g of FeV in regular octahedral sites. The fit of the Mössbauer spectra at 4.2 K is also discussed in relation to the distribution of FeIII and FeV in the lattice.  相似文献

We have studied the fatty acid composition of total phosphoglycerides from various types of nerve cells in culture. Primary cell cultures were compared with tumoral cell strains. Glial cells exhibited no characteristic pattern when compared to neurons. Tumoral cell phosphogly cerides contained much higher levels of octadecenoic acid and lower levels of C-20 to C-22 polyunsaturated fatty acids than normal cell phosphoglycerides. This observation seems to be a general feature in tumoral cell membranes. It could be of interest in respect to the membrane fluidity of cancer cells.  相似文献
