Sonoelastography and transient elastography are two ultrasound-based techniques that facilitate noninvasive characterization of the viscoelastic properties of soft tissues by investigating their response to shear mechanical excitation. Young's modulus is the principle assessment parameter. Because it defines local tissue stiffness, it is of major interest for the medical imaging and cosmetic industries as it could replace subjective palpation by yielding local, quantitative information. In this paper, we describe a new high-resolution device capable of measuring local Young's modulus in very thin layers (1-5 mm) and devoted to the in vivo evaluation of the elastic properties of human skin. It uses an ultrasonic probe (50 MHz) for tracking the displacements induced by a 300 Hz shear wave generated by a ring surrounding the transducer. The displacements are measured using a conventional cross-correlation technique between successive ultrasonic back-scattered echoes. First, this noninvasive technique has been experimentally proven to be accurate for investigating elasticity in different skin-mimicking phantoms. Assuming that human exposure to BSE was through beef mechanically recovered meat (MRM) consumed as burgers and other meat products, we estimated the French consumption of different food items containing beef MRM, and compared these consumptions for French and British populations. To estimate consumption of meat products containing bovine MRM, we used dietary data from national individual and household food surveys conducted between 1980 and 1995. After reconciliation of consumption data between the available surveys and calendar year adjustments, we simulated consumption of one-thousandth of the French population. Consumption was estimated by birth cohort and gender, and for the periods 1980-89 and 1990-95 separately. Data showed that burgers (including manufactured minced meat) represented around 75-80% of the individual consumption of meat products containing MRM, and that consumption of burgers increased by 40% over the 1980-95 period. In all age groups, consumption was higher in males than in females. In both genders, the 1940-69 birth cohort had the highest mean consumption of burgers and other beef products containing MRM. Similar findings have been reported for the UK population. Estimated consumption of bovine MRM per calendar year increased markedly over the study period, concomitantly with an increase of bovine carcasses imported from the UK. Comparison of the 1980-1995 pattern of bovine MRM consumption in the UK and France indicated thatthis consumption peaked later in France than in the UK. Interactions between insects and glucosinolate-containing plant species have been investigated for a long time. Although the glucosinolate–myrosinase system is believed to act as a defense mechanism against generalist herbivores and fungi, several specialist insects use these secondary metabolites for host plant finding and acceptance and can handle them physiologically. However, sequestration of glucosinolates in specialist herbivores has been less well studied. Larvae of the turnip sawfly Athalia rosae feed on several glucosinolate-containing plant species. When larvae are disturbed by antagonists, they release one or more small droplets of hemolymph from their integument. This reflex bleeding is used as a defense mechanism. Specific glucosinolate analysis, by conversion to desulfoglucosinolates and analysis of these by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to diode array UV spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, revealed that larvae incorporate and concentrate the plant's characteristic glucosinolates from their hosts. Extracts of larvae that were reared on Sinapis alba contained sinalbin, even when the larvae were first starved for 22 hr and, thus, had empty guts. Hemolymph was analyzed from larvae that were reared on either S. alba, Brassica nigra, or Barbarea stricta. Leaves were analyzed from the same plants the larvae had fed on. Sinalbin (from S. alba), sinigrin (B. nigra), or glucobarbarin and glucobrassicin (B. stricta) were present in leaves in concentrations less than 1 mol/g fresh weight, while the same glucosinolates could be detected in the larvae's hemolymph in concentrations between 10 and 31 mol/g fresh weight, except that glucobrassicin was present only as a trace. In larval feces, only trace amounts of glucosinolates (sinalbin and sinigrin) could be detected. The glucosinolates were likewise found in freshly emerged adults, showing that the sequestered phytochemicals were transferred through the pupal stage. 相似文献

Numerical simulation of the polyurethane foaming process is a valuable method to analyze the molding process at an early stage of product development to shorten time-to-market cycles and cut costs by using fewer prototypes. However, this process involves highly coupled thermo-chemo-rheological modeling and needs adequate model parameters’ identification. A theoretical model including chemical reactions and thermo-rheological coupling of conservation equations was developed. Based on the theoretical model, three-dimensional numerical simulation for mold filling of the polyurethane foam was carried out by using Finite Pointset Method (FPM) to predict flow field, flow front advancement, temperature and density distributions during mold filling. A FOAMAT system was used to monitor foam height rise and reaction temperature on a cylindrical test tube and foam viscosity was measured by using a dynamic rotational rheometer with parallel-plate system. The parameters of the model were identified by an inverse analysis method which consists in determining the parameters by comparing the computed quantities to those measured experimentally. The overall modeling was validated by using short shot foams obtained with a panel mold cavity. Mold filling of an automotive underlay carpet cavity was investigated numerically. Flow front results were successfully compared to short shot foams obtained with the industrial mold cavity. 相似文献

Nowadays,we are heading towards integrating hundreds to thousands of cores on a single chip.However,traditional system software and middleware are not well suited to manage and provide services at such large scale.To improve the scalability and adaptability of operating system and middleware services on future many-core platform,we propose the pinned OS/services.By porting each OS and runtime system(middleware) service to a separate core(special hardware acceleration),we expect to achieve maximal performance gain and energy efficiency in many-core environments.As a case study,we target on XML(Extensible Markup Language),the commonly used data transfer/store standard in the world.We have successfully implemented and evaluated the design of porting XML parsing service onto Intel 48-core Single-Chip Cloud Computer(SCC) platform.The results show that it can provide considerable energy saving.However,we also identified heavy performance penalties introduced from memory side,making the parsing service bloated.Hence,as a further step,we propose the memory-side hardware accelerator for XML parsing.With specified hardware design,we can further enhance the performance gain and energy efficiency,where the performance can be improved by 20% with 12.27% energy reduction. 相似文献

In this paper, we describe the preparation of Nd3+ doped glass-ceramics in the (GeS2)70-(Ga2S3)20-(CsCl)10 system. Neodymium has been introduced as metallic powder or incorporated as sulphide. Appropriate heat treatments of the base-glass lead to glass-ceramics with controllable crystal sizes that are transparent in the visible and infrared spectral ranges. X-ray diffraction as well as electron diffraction techniques were used to investigate the crystallization process. Differential scanning calorimetry indicates that neodymium ions are poor nucleating agents in this glass compared to erbium ions. Luminescence measurements were also performed and point out that although the ceramization process increases significantly the luminescence efficiency, the neodymium ions are only partially incorporated in the nanocrystals. 相似文献
