As critical computer systems continue to grow in complexity, the task of showing that they execute correctly becomes more difficult. For this reason, research in software engineering has turned to formal methods, i.e., rigorous approaches to demonstrating the correctness of software systems. Unfortunately, the formal methods currently used in the design of concurrent systems do not provide any mechanisms for specifying and reasoning about the mapping of software to hardware. As a result, architectural constraints, even though they play an important role in the design process, are left out of the formal framework. We show how to state architectural constraints in a formal notation, how to prove that programs are allocated correctly to the underlying architecture, and how to factor architectural considerations into a program derivation process which uses a mixture of specification and program refinements. The approach is illustrated by the derivation of two related programs that solve the same problem but are designed to work on distinct architectures  相似文献

A daylighting study of classrooms in three california climates was made using the DOE-2.1B Building Energy Analysis Computer Program. The daylighting configurations studied were unilateral, clerestory, and top-lighting designs. The climates studied were Fresno, Oakland, and Mount Shasta.It was found that daylighting could produce lighting energy savings in excess of 80%, and total building energy savings in excess of 30% in all climates analyzed. It was also found that the less than optimum daylighting designs studied still used less energy than classrooms having no daylighting features.For Fresno, unilateral designs should use approximately 50% glass, with the glass oriented either north or south, provided the south is shaded. The glass should be mounted on the wall as high as possible. Clerestories should run the length of the classroom and should be 0.6 m (2 ft) high, assuming additional windows comprise 30% of the wall area. Skylights can be between 1% and 5% of the total roof area.For Oakland, unilateral designs should use approximately 70% glass, with the glass oriented in any direction, provided orientations other than north are shaded. Clerestories should be 1.2 m (4 ft) high. Skylights should be between 3% and 5% of the roof area.For Mount Shasta, unilateral designs should use approximately 50% glass, with the glass facing south with an overhang. A northern orientation performs almost identically. Clestories should also face south and have an overhang, but again northern orientations perform almost as well. Skylights should be between 3% and 5% of the roof area.Skylights save the greatest amount of energy in all three climates.  相似文献

We analysed the outcome of 63 consecutive, adequate interventions for atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis and hypertension: 34 patients had percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty, and 29 had surgical correction. Hypertension was cured in 21% of patients and improved in 47%, but 32% failed to respond. We analyzed clinical variables predictive of cure. Duration of hypertension, level of diastolic blood pressure, and sex were found to be predictive of cure. The highest probability of cure was found in men with a duration of hypertension of less than 10 years and an initial diastolic blood pressure of greater than 80 mm Hg. Use of these clinical variables in a tree-based model correctly classified 80% of cases, with a sensitivity of 92% and a specificity of 77%. We conclude that a tree-based clinical algorithm based on only three clinical criteria correctly predicted cure of hypertension in most patients with renal artery stenosis and may be useful in decision making. A prospective analysis will be required to evaluate the clinical validity of the algorithm.  相似文献

The paper presents results obtained by the implementation of a new method of Laplace transformation and inversion developed by the authors. Test functions are used to show that basic accuracy is comparable to that obtainable by uniform sampling along the Bromwich contour. The advantage of the new method is seen to be that it generally requires far fewer samples of F(s). It is clarified that the new method does have certain limitations so far as general application is concerned. However, given results indicate that very satisfactory performance may be expected whenever the method is specifically applied to the calculation of transient responses of damped physical systems.  相似文献

Applications combining wireframe and shaded primitives often produce unwanted artifacts and thus poor-quality polygon edging. We have developed an algorithm that uses an edging plane to generate clean, high-quality polygon edges when using separately drawn vectors to highlight polygon borders. The algorithm maintains the subpixel adjustments necessary for accurate polygonal rendering. The edging plane is simple to incorporate into existing software and hardware scan convertors. In this article, we describe the problem of edging a single polygon, then extend the discussion to multipolygon surfaces and multiple component assemblies. We introduce our algorithm and compare it to existing methods for improving polygon edges  相似文献

A comprehensive characterization of buried-channel NMOS transistors at low temperatures down to 30 K is reported. The mobilities of both surface (accumulation) and bulk (buried-channel) electrons were determined as a function of surface electric field and gate bias voltage, respectively, at low temperatures. Both surface electron mobility and buried-channel electron mobility increase with decreasing temperatures. However, a peak in the buried-channel electron mobility is observed around 80 K if the neutral region extends to regions of high impurity concentrations near the surface. A modified MOSCAP (Poisson solver) was used to obtain spatial distributions of carriers and to predict the C-V curves. Low-frequency noise measurements at low temperatures were carried out at gate voltages corresponding to the accumulation, depletion, and inversion modes of operation of the device. In the accumulation mode, a 1/f dependence is observed similar to surface-channel devices. In the depletion mode, a generation-recombination type of noise is observed with a peak around 150 K. In the inversion mode, noise that is related to the hole inversion layer is observed  相似文献

Flow cytometric DNA analysis was performed in combination with three-colour immunological staining of cell surface antigens on density-separated mononuclear cells (MNC) obtained from peripheral blood (PB) before, during and after cytokine stimulation of healthy adults. The aim of the study was to determine the cell-cycling status of haemopoietic progenitor cells mobilized into the blood of healthy volunteers during a 5 d treatment period with 5/micrograms per kg body weight of either granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) or granulocyte-macrophage colony-simulating factor (GM-CSF). Despite considerably increasing numbers of CD34+ PB MNC, the latter were not found to be in S/G2M phase, whereas, among the CD34- MNC, the proportion of cells in S/G2M phase increased from < 0.1% to 0.75 +/- 0.4% (GM-CSF) and to 1.34 +/- 0.75% (G-CSF) and dropped again after discontinuation of the cytokine stimulation. These cells expressed CD33 but were negative for CD45RA, CD3, CD19 and CD14 and were thus considered granulopoietic cells. Analogous results were obtained from analyses of cord blood (CB). In contrast, CD34+ cells from bone marrow (BM) were partially (between 9% and 15%) found to be in S/G2M phase. The non-cycling status of PB and progenitor cells was confirmed by the analysis of CD34+ cells enriched from the two cells sources. However, in vitro stimulation of these progenitor cells using IL3, GM-CSF, erythropoietin and steel factor (SF) revealed that, after 48 h in suspension culture, up to 30% of the CD34+ cells were in S/G2m phase. The fact that cycling CD34+ cells are only detectable in BM but not in PB or CB may suggest different adhesive properties of migrating/mobilized 'stem cells' which may require the BM micro-environment for adequate proliferation in vivo.  相似文献

PURPOSE: In the current series of experiments we have characterized cell proliferation leading to vascular lesion formation in a porcine model for post-angioplasty restenosis and examined the mechanism of action of intravascular beta irradiation in the prevention of lesion formation in this model. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Juvenile male pigs were subjected to balloon overstretch injury of the left anterior descending and circumflex coronary arteries using clinical angioplasty catheters. Proliferating cells were labelled by injections of 50 mg/kg of bromo-deoxyuridine (BrDU) 24, 16 and 8 hrs prior to sacrifice and were detected by immunohistochemistry using a specific antibody to BrDU. In some cases, BrDU was given as a pulse 3 days after angioplasty and the animals sacrificed on day 14 to follow the migration of the cells which had proliferated earlier. Characterization of the proliferating cells was performed by immunohistochemistry using antibodies to specific cytoskeletal proteins specific for smooth muscle cells and myofibroblasts. Some vessels were treated at the time of angioplasty with 14 or 28 Gy (to a depth of 2 mm) intravascular irradiation using a flexible catheter with a pure beta emitter 90 SR/Y and the effect on cell proliferation and terminal transferase-mediated UTP nick-end labelling (TUNEL) examined 3 or 7 days later. RESULTS: The first major site of cell proliferation between 2-3 days after angioplasty is the adventitia and not the medial wall. Seven days after angioplasty cell proliferation is predominant in the neointima and is reduced in the media and adventitia. Differential staining with antibodies directed against smooth muscle alpha actin and other cytoskeletal proteins indicates that the proliferating adventitial cells are myofibroblasts. Pulse label studies with BrDU indicates that the proliferating adventitial myofibroblasts migrate into the neointima and contribute to the mass of the restenosis lesion. Fourteen days after angioplasty the myofibroblasts in the neointima and the adventitia express alpha smooth muscle actin and form a fibrotic scar in the adventitia surrounding the injury site. Endovascular irradiation appears to inhibit development of the restenosis lesion by significantly reducing cell proliferation in the media and adventitia at early time points after injury. There were no significant differences in the percent of TUNEL labelled cells in the irradiated vessels compared to controls. Alpha actin staining of myofibroblasts in the adventitia was reduced in the irradiated vessels suggesting a positive effect of intravascular irradiation on vascular remodeling. CONCLUSIONS: These studies have shown that adventitial myofibroblasts contribute to the problem of post-angioplasty restenosis by proliferating, forming a fibrotic scar surrounding the injury site, and migrating into the neointima. We hypothesize that the adventitial fibrosis which develops at the injury site contributes to negative vascular remodeling associated with clinical restenosis. Experiments in which vessels were exposed to intravascular irradiation at the time of angioplasty indicate that this treatment reduces post-angioplasty restenosis by inhibiting early cell proliferation in the media and adventitia and by preventing the fibrotic changes in the adventitia without a corresponding increase in cellular death or apoptosis in these tissues.  相似文献

Holstein cows (n = 135) under commercial management were used to determine whether sometribove (recombinant methionyl bST, 25 mg/d) administered during the dry period affected milk yield during the ensuing lactation. Cows scheduled to begin lactations (greater than or equal to 2) during January to March were assigned randomly to treatments of sodium bicarbonate excipient (n = 67) or bST (25 mg/d, n = 68). Subcutaneous injections were given for 14 d, corresponding to d -21 to -7 relative to expected calving date. Days dry prior to first injection (64.0, 60.2) and number of injections received (13.9, 13.8) were similar for control and treatment groups, but days from last injection to calving (8.8, 7.1) differed. No differences in incidence of dystocia or udder edema were detected. Previous lactation yields were 8251 and 7952 kg, and yields for lactations following treatment were 8328 and 7852 kg, based on complete lactation data. Mean test date 3.5% FCM yields for control and treated groups during experimental lactation differed before (30.3 vs. 28.1 kg) but not after (29.5 vs. 28.4 kg) covariance adjustment for previous total lactation milk yield. Test of heterogeneity of regression provided no evidence that respective curves for FCM yield during lactation were not parallel or of different magnitude. Elevation of serum bST during 2 wk of the dry period resulted in no apparent increase in extent of mammogenesis or lactogenesis that was translated into an increase in milk yield.  相似文献
