Capacitive deionization (CDI) for removal of water hardness was investigated for water softening applications. In order to examine the wettability and pore structure of the activated carbon cloth and composites electrodes, surface morphological and electrochemical characteristics were observed. The highly wettable electrode surface exhibited faster adsorption/desorption of ions in a continuous treatment system. In addition, the stack as well as unit cell operations were performed to investigate preferential removal of the hardness ions, showing higher selectivity of divalent ions rather than that of the monovalent ion. Interestingly, competitive substitution was observed in which the adsorbed Na ions were replaced by more strongly adsorptive Ca and Mg ions. The preferential removal of divalent ions was explained in terms of ion selectivity and pore characteristics in electrodes. Finally, optimal pore size and structure of carbon electrodes for efficient removal of divalent ions were extensively discussed. 相似文献

Recent statistic data shows that low back pain accounts for the largest percent of industrial injuries occurred by manual material handling tasks and has an increasing trend around the world. The objective of this study is to develop a prevention method for low back pain using electromyography that resists the strain on the L5/S1 disc and measures the heart rate for the prevention of low back pain during lifting tasks. EMG signals and heart rate were analysed under the condition of a fixed vertical factor (20~80 cm), two horizontal factors (35 cm, 55 cm), two weight factors (10 kg, 25 kg), and two times per minute for each lifting task. Eight healthy male workers performed nine-step strengthening & stretching exercises that can increase back strength on the L5/S1 disc for six months. After completion of the two trials, the results were compared.The results of this analysis show that EMG signals have more effect on the weight than the horizontal factors similar to those analysed in previous studies and are decreased. Therefore, those exercises were shown to be very efficient. Also, there are not statistically significant differences in the analysis results of heart rate between weight factors.The intention of this study is to suggest exercise programs that help to prevent low back pain by strengthening and stretching the muscles and joints related to lifting tasks at the work place. This paper presents a new method driving multiple robots to their goal position without collision. To consider the movement
of the robots in a work area, we adopt the concept of avoidability measure. The avoidability measure figures the degree of
how easily a robot can avoid other robots considering the velocity of the robots. To implement the concept to avoid collision
among multiple robots, relative distance between the robots is proposed. The relative distance is a virtual distance between
robots indicating the threat of collision between the robots. Based on the relative distance, the method calculates repulsive
force against a robot from the other robots. Also, attractive force toward the goal position is calculated in terms of the
relative distance. These repulsive force and attractive force are added to form the driving force for robot motion. The proposed
method is simulated for several cases. The results show that the proposed method steers robots to open space anticipating
the approach of other robots. In contrast, since the usual potential field method initiates avoidance motion later than the
proposed method, it sometimes fails preventing collision or causes hasty motion to avoid other robots. The proposed method
works as a local collision-free motion coordination method in conjunction with higher level of task planning and path planning

The filter medium could be selected and the longevity of the filter medium by the phosphorus saturation could be predicted in the constructed wetland system, accordingly proposing the scheme to remove the phosphorus for a long period. The phosphorus adsorption capacities of various filter media were investigated in relation to the size and types of filter media to screen the optimal condition. The objective of this study was to evaluate the constructed wetland longevity by improving P adsorption capacity. The maximum P adsorption capacities of filter media A (4--10 mm), B (2--4 mm), and C (0.1--2 mm) were 7.7, 11.6, and 22.5 mg/kg, respectively, showing that they increased as the filter media size decreased. Among the experimental media, the optimal filter media size was 0.1--2 mm. When Ca, Mg, Al and Fe were added to the filter medium C, which is the optimal filter medium, the addition of Ca improved mostly the P adsorption capacity. In the alternative proposal to use these facts, the oyster shell was added to the filter medium and the P adsorption capacity was examined: adding 2% oyster shell increased the P adsorption capacity from 23 to 36 mg/kg. In the column where the oyster shell was mixed, when the oyster shell content was 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% in the filter medium C, the respective saturation times of the P adsorption were about 6, 9, 17, 30, 43, 56, and 70 days. When the oyster shell content was 0%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% after 1 month in the column, the P adsorption amount was about 180, 600, 1560, 4280, 6157, 7089, 7519, and 7925 mg/kg, respectively. The increment of the P adsorption amount was small if the oyster shell content was 60% or more, because the filter medium with more than 60% oyster shell content did not approach the saturation time by the P adsorption yet. The P adsorption amount for 60%, 80%, and 100% could be predicted as about 9702, 12,879, and 16,056 mg/kg, respectively. The largest amount of extracted P in the filter media with oyster shell after 30 days of P solution application was bound to Ca, followed by water soluble-P, Al--P, and Fe--P. Therefore, it was concluded that the adsorption amount of the phosphorus could be increased by adding the oyster shell to the filter medium. Also, it was concluded that adding the oyster shell to the filter medium in the constructed wetland was the scheme to extend the longevity of the constructed wetland by the phosphorus saturation, and using the oyster shell would be useful in aspect of economical efficiency and easiness. The tip gap flow and aerodynamic loss generation over a plane tip equipped with a “constant-width suction-side” (CWSS) winglet and a “varying-width suction-side” (VWSS) winglet have been investigated in a turbine cascade. For a fixed tip gap of h/c = 2.0%, three different winglet widths of w/p = 5.28, 10.55, and 15.83% are tested for the CWSS winglet. The VWSS winglet is designed based on flow visualization and has almost the same winglet area as the CWSS winglet of w/p = 15.83%. In general, the suction-side winglets have a role to increase aerodynamic loss in the tip leakage vortex region but reduce aerodynamic loss in the passage vortex region. For the CWSS winglet, the total-pressure loss coefficient mass-averaged all over the measurement plane has no appreciable changes with increasing w/p from 0.0 to 10.55%, but tends to decrease with further increment of w/p. The VWSS winglet performs better in reducing aerodynamic loss in the passage vortex region than the CWSS winglet of w/p = 15.83% but leads to a little bit higher aerodynamic loss in the tip leakage vortex region. The aerodynamic loss reduction by the VWSS winglet is 7.4% in comparison with the plane tip without winglet, and is about 60% lower than that by the widest CWSS winglet. 相似文献

Legged locomotion has been widely researched due to its effectiveness in overcoming uneven terrains. Due to previous efforts there has been much progress in achieving dynamic gait stability and as the next step, mimicking the high speed and efficiency observed in animals has become a research interest. The main barrier in developing such a robotic platform is the limitation in the power efficiency of the actuator: the use of pneumatic actuators produce sufficient power but are heavy and big; electronic motors can be compact but are disadvantageous in producing sudden impact from stall which is required for high speed legged locomotion. As a new attempt in this paper we suggest a new leg design for a mobile robot which uses the slider-crank mechanism to convert the continuous motor rotation into piston motion which is used to impact the ground. We believe this new mechanism will have advantage over conventional leg mechanism designs using electronic motors since it uses the continuous motion of the motor instead of sudden rotation movements from stall state which is not ideal to draw out maximum working condition from an electronic motor. In order to control impact timing from the periodic motion of the piston a mechanical passive clutch trigger mechanism was developed. Dynamic analysis was performed to determine the optimal position for the mechanical switch position of the clutch trigger mechanism, and the results were verified through simulation and experiment. Development of a legged locomotion with two degrees of freedom, slider-crank mechanism for impact and additional actuation for swing motion, is proposed for future work. 相似文献

A new mixed-valent iron MOF, formulated as Fe3O(F4BDC)3(H2O)3·(DMF)3.5 (1), has been synthesized by using a perfluorinated linear dicarboxylate to link trigonal prismatic Fe3(μ3-O)(O2C–)6 clusters. The structure refinement based on single crystal X-ray diffraction data collected from 1 reveals the material exhibits the acs topology with large channels along the crystallographic c-axis. Due to the presence of fluorine atoms the organic link, 2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate (F4BDC), has a 63° torsion angle between the carboxylate and aromatic planes, resulting in larger channels compared to those in the isoreticular material MOF-235. While few iron-based MOFs have demonstrated porosity, nitrogen and hydrogen sorption experiments carried out at 77 K proved the porosity of outgassed 1, which has a Langmuir surface are of 635 m2/g and a gravimetric capacity of 0.9 wt% of hydrogen at 1 bar. 相似文献
