This paper surveys and categorizes emerging digital media business models. We apply the customer activity cycle of Vandermerwe (2000) to the consumption of digital media, taking three phases into account: pre-consumption, consumption and post-consumption. Our analysis of the business models focuses on their social costs and benefits. We derive the parameters as follows: convenience of use, exposure, ease of compliance and administration. We distinguish two polar environments for digital media: the Dark Web with content created by the masses, and the Light Web with content created by big media. We develop an artist life cycle model in which different business models appear to be optimal at different stages of an artist’s career. Voluntary payment-based models seem to be ideal for newcomers in the Dark Web, while digital rights management-based and complementary product and service-based models are the likely choice of established artists in the Light Web. Established artists might change their approach again, using voluntary payment-based or complementary product and service-based models when they retire.  相似文献

Structural features associated with the ability of a monoclonalantibody (mAb) to discriminate between protein variants areidentified and engineered. The variants are the curaremimetictoxin from Naja nigricollis and erabutoxin a or b from Laticaudasemifasciata which differ from each other by 16 substitutionsand one insertion. The neutralizing mAb M1 recognizes with highaffinity a topographical epitope on the surface of toxin , butfails to recognize the erabutoxins although they possess mostof the residues forming the presumed epitope. Examinations ofthe toxin and erabutoxin 3-D structures and molecular dynamicssimulations reveal several differences between the variants.In particular, the region involving the ß-turn 17–24is organized differently. Analysis of the differences foundin this region suggests that the insertion (or deletion) atposition 18 of the variant amino add sequences is particularlyimportant in determining the differential cross-reactivity.To test this proposal, residue 18 was deleted in one erabutoxinusing sitedirected mutagenesis, and the biological propertiesof the resulting mutant were examined. We found that full antigenicitywas restored in the previously unrecognized variant. The implicationsof this finding are discussed.  相似文献

Five different types of SiC fibre produced by chemical vapour deposition were analysed using Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray (WDX) analysis. Fibres studied include SCS0, SCS6, Sigma SM1240 and two types of SiC fibres denoted SAM1 and SAM2, produced in the Commonwealth of Independent States (Ukraine, former USSR). Fibres were fracturedin situ in the Auger spectrometer. For each fibre, the oxygen, carbon and silicon yields were measured and qualitative assessment of oxygen was performed. Results suggest that the SCS0 fibre contains less oxygen than other SiC fibres. It was revealed that the SAM1 fibre (120 m diameter) has a duplex SiC and carbon coating deposited over a 20 m tungsten core prior to the main SiC deposition, to decouple mechanically the tungsten core from the main SiC deposition.  相似文献

It is common in solving topology optimization problems to replace an integer‐valued characteristic function design field with the material volume fraction field, a real‐valued approximation of the design field that permits ‘fictitious’ mixtures of materials during intermediate iterations in the optimization process. This is reasonable so long as one can interpolate properties for such materials and so long as the final design is integer valued. For this purpose, we present a method for smoothly thresholding the volume fractions of an arbitrary number of material phases which specify the design. This method is trivial for two‐material design problems, for example, the canonical topology design problem of specifying the presence or absence of a single material within a domain, but it becomes more complex when three or more materials are used, as often occurs in material design problems. We take advantage of the similarity in properties between the volume fractions and the barycentric coordinates on a simplex to derive a thresholding, method which is applicable to an arbitrary number of materials. As we show in a sensitivity analysis, this method has smooth derivatives, allowing it to be used in gradient‐based optimization algorithms. We present results, which show synergistic effects when used with Solid Isotropic Material with Penalty and Rational Approximation of Material Properties material interpolation functions, popular methods of ensuring integerness of solutions. Comparative study of protein metabolism in neurons of layers III and V of the sensorimotor cortex was carried out in two groups of Wistar rats, which differed in learning results: "bad" (60% of population) and "good" learners (40%). It was found out that the associative neurons (layer III) were most sensitive to cognitive load. In "bad" learners, an increase in nuclear and cytoplasmic dimensions and rise in protein concentration and content took place in these neurons, while in the efferent neurons (layer V) the protein content increased only in the cytoplasm. In "good" learners, the cognitive load led to a decrease in all the cytochemical parameters in neurons of the layer III while in the neurons of the layer V the content and concentration of proteins increased both in nuclei and cytoplasm. It is suggested that the character of protein metabolism changes produced by information load can be considered as a reflection of individual peculiarities of cognitive activity, and the extent of cytochemical changes as a reflection of complicity of a cognitive task.  相似文献

We have performed angle-dependent reflectance measurements of in situ magnetron sputtered films of B(4)C, C, Mo, Si, and W. The Fresnel relations were used to determine the complex index of refraction from the reflectance data in the region of approximately 35-150 eV. In the cases of Si, C, and B(4)C we found excellent agreement with published data. However, for Mo and W we found that the optical properties from 35 to 60 eV differed significantly from those in the literature.  相似文献

The CEC Project GOAL (Esprit 6283) aims to develop generic software tools to support a new project management paradigm, in which projects are collaborative, decentralised and inter-organizational. To support inter-organizational interaction, communication and cooperation, we are developing a design framework for formalizing the flow of information between organizations, specifying access to and provision of project services, and defining project-wide standards and procedures. This framework is based on normalizing interactions between autonomous software agents by specifying messages and protocols for inter-agent communication and cooperation. This paper reviews the framework, and then focusses on the specification and implementation of a case study, the automation of a distributed document review procedure. This is both a successful proof of concept and a demonstration of how Artificial Intelligence technologies can support inter-organizational project management. This article introduces a novel magnetic bead-based DNA extraction and purification device using active magnetic mixing approach. Mixing and separation steps are performed using functionalised superparamagnetic beads suspended in cell lysis buffer in a circular chamber that is sandwiched between two external magnetic coils. Non-uniform nature of magnetic field causes temporal and spatial distribution of beads within the chamber. This process efficiently mixes the lysis buffer and whole blood in order to extract DNA from target cells. Functionalized surface of the magnetic beads then attract the exposed DNA molecules. Finally, DNA-attached magnetic beads are attracted to the bottom of the chamber by activating the bottom magnetic coil. DNA molecules are extracted from magnetic beads by washing and re-suspension processes. In this study, a circular PMMA microchamber, 25 μL in volume, 500 μm in depth and 8 mm in diameter was fabricated to purify DNA from spiked bacterial cell cultures into the whole blood sample using Promega Magazorb DNA extraction kit. The lysis efficiency was evaluated using a panel of Gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacterial cells cultures into the blood sample to achieve approximately 100,000 copy levels inside the chip. Manufacturer’s standard extraction protocol was modified to a more simplified process suitable for chip-based extraction. The lysis step was performed using 5 min incubation at 56 °C followed by 5 min incubation at room temperature for binding process. Temperature rise was generated and maintained by the same external magnetic coils used for active mixing. The yield/purity and recovery levels of the extracted DNA were evaluated using quantitative UV spectrophotometer and real-time PCR assay, respectively. Real-time PCR results indicated efficient chip-based bacterial DNA extraction using modified extraction protocol comparable to the standard bench-top extraction process.  相似文献

Reconstructing boundaries along material interfaces from volume fractions is a difficult problem, especially because the under‐resolved nature of the input data allows for many correct interpretations. Worse, algorithms widely accepted as appropriate for simulation are inappropriate for visualization. In this paper, we describe a new algorithm that is specifically intended for reconstructing material interfaces for visualization and analysis requirements. The algorithm performs well with respect to memory footprint and execution time, has desirable properties in various accuracy metrics, and also produces smooth surfaces with few artifacts, even when faced with more than two materials per cell.  相似文献
