The liver oil content of seven MediterraneanCentrophorus spp. were studied together with the oil of one unfertilized egg and one yolk bag. The relative weight of the liver ranges
from 15 to 29% of total body weight; 63 to 89% of the liver weight is oil. Squalene, the major component (49–89% in oil) of
the unsaponifiable fraction, is directly quantified by GLC following TLC separation. The squalene level increases with the
age of the animals. More than 50 fatty acid species were identified. Among them, the most abundant are: 16∶0 (22–27%), 18∶1ω9
(21–36%) and 22∶6ω3 (2–18%). The level of ω3-fatty acids, essential in the fishes, shows a maximum in the egg (26%), decreases

BACKGROUND: Several studies have investigated the composition of phenolics in grape skin during grape maturation under various conditions of light exposure, water stress, nitrogen supply and mineral nutrition, but their localisation during berry development is not well known. In this study the composition and localisation of proanthocyanidins were monitored for three years on four plots known to induce a distinctive behaviour of the vine (Cabernet Franc). The composition of phenolics was determined by spectrophotometry; also, in one year, proanthocyanidins were determined by high‐performance liquid chromatography. Further information was obtained histochemically by means of toluidine blue O staining and image analysis. RESULTS: The results indicated that clear differences in phenolic quantification existed between the biochemical and histochemical approaches; the proportion of cells without phenolics was not linked with the quantity determined by the analytical methods used. The histochemical method showed the evolution of the localisation and typology of cells with and without phenolics during ripening. The number of cells without any phenolic compounds appeared to be very dependent on the mesoclimatic conditions and only slightly dependent on the site water status. CONCLUSION: Clear differences in phenolic quantification existed between the biochemical and histochemical approaches; the proportion of cells with phenolics was not linked with the quantity determined by biochemistry. The histochemical method showed an evolution of the localisation and typology of cells with and without phenolics in which mesoclimatic conditions were the most influential factor. Finally, the study showed some advantages of the histochemical approach: it gives information about the anatomy of the tissue as well as the nature and distribution of some of the large macromolecules and allows reconstruction of the three‐dimensional plant structure. Mitochondrial dysfunctions are implicated in several pathologies, such as metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological diseases, as well as in cancer and aging. These metabolic alterations are usually assessed in human or murine samples by mitochondrial respiratory chain enzymatic assays, by measuring the oxygen consumption of intact mitochondria isolated from tissues, or from cells obtained after physical or enzymatic disruption of the tissues. However, these methodologies do not maintain tissue multicellular organization and cell-cell interactions, known to influence mitochondrial metabolism. Here, we develop an optimal model to measure mitochondrial oxygen consumption in heart and lung tissue samples using the XF24 Extracellular Flux Analyzer (Seahorse) and discuss the advantages and limitations of this technological approach. Our results demonstrate that tissue organization, as well as mitochondrial ultrastructure and respiratory function, are preserved in heart and lung tissues freshly processed or after overnight conservation at 4 °C. Using this method, we confirmed the repeatedly reported obesity-associated mitochondrial dysfunction in the heart and extended it to the lungs. We set up and validated a new strategy to optimally assess mitochondrial function in murine tissues. In many reinforced composite manufacturing processes it is necessary to compact the fiber materials to obtain the desired fiber/resin ratio in the finished part. Detailed knowledge of applied surface force versus material fiber volume is particularly important in processes such as pultrusion, resin transfer molding, and compression molding. The force required to compact a stack of reinforcing material is strongly dependent on the type of fiber used and its material form. Complicated interactions are possible, particularly when mixtures of unidirectional, oriented cloth and random fiber mats are used. This paper will present results of an experimental and analytical investigation of the response of various dry reinforcing materials subjected to compressive forces applied normal to their principle plane. Experiments were conducted by applying up to 8.6 MPa normal force to thick stacks of E-glass, graphite cloth, mat and unidirectional material and combinations of two different fiber orientation. Pressure versus fiber volume data were generated for both individual materials and various combinations. Experimental results were compared to analytical predictions. Data showed that the force versus deformation is very strongly dependent on the details of the fiber form or forms being used. There is structural relaxation during fiber compression. Relaxation is very related to fiber orientation, span length, and fiber breakage during compaction. Relaxation behavior decreases with fiber alignment. Random mats and 0/90 cloth show much more relaxation than unidirectional fibers. Data of relaxation is very well fitted with a Maxwell-Wiechert viscoelastic model. 相似文献

Nursery-age pigs (n=198) were used to evaluate the difference in abscess formation at needle-free jet and conventional needle-and-syringe injection sites. Needle-free jet injection was used to administer injections in the neck and ham on one side of the animal whereas needle-and-syringe was used for neck and ham injections on the opposite side. Immediately prior to injection, the injection site surfaces were contaminated with an inoculum of Arcanobacterium pyogenes. Each pig was humanely euthanized 27 or 28days after injections. Histopathological results showed that needle-free jet injection was associated with more abscesses than needle-and-syringe injection at both neck (P=0.0625) and ham (P=0.0313) injection sites. Out of 792 injection sites, only 13 abscesses were observed, with 12 of those present at needle-free jet injection sites. Needle-free jet injection may increase the occurrence of injection site abscesses that necessitate carcass trimming at pork processing plants. 相似文献

Life cycle assessment (LCA) is an environmental assessment tool generally applied to products but also to processes. Features of the LCA of processes are presented in this paper. This approach was used to compare two flue gas cleaning processes: the typical wet-type process and the new transported droplets column process. The LCA result shows that the global environmental burden is similar between the two processes, which confirms the viability of the transported droplets column. The distribution of the environmental burden, however, is different between the two processes. The weak points of the transported droplets column are the pollution transfer from air to water and a larger volume to stabilize. Its strong point: it is more efficient in capturing dust particles and toxic pollutants. This process could be improved from an environmental standpoint by adding an electrostatic filter upstream of the transported droplets column to capture the particles. The laboratory results of the transported droplets column need, however, to be confirmed at a larger scale. 相似文献

Fluid catalytic cracking technology: current status and recent discoveries on catalyst contamination

The fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) technology is one of the pillars of the modern petroleum industry which converts the crude oil fractions into many commodity fuels and platform chemicals, such as gasoline. Although the FCC field is quite mature, the research scope is still enormous due to changing FCC feedstock, gradual shifts in market demands and evolved unit operations. In this review, we have described the current status of FCC technology, such as variation in the present day feedstocks and catalysts, and particularly, great attention is paid to the effects of various contaminants of the FCC catalysts of which the latter part has not been sufficiently documented and analyzed in the literature yet. Deposition of various contaminants on cracking catalyst during FCC process, including metals, sulfur, nitrogen and coke originated from feedstocks or generated during FCC reaction constitutes a source of concern to the petroleum refiners from both economic and technological perspectives. It causes not only undesirable effects on the catalysts themselves, but also reduction in catalytic activity and changes in product distribution of the FCC reactions, translating into economic losses. The metal contaminants (vanadium (V), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe) and sodium (Na)) have the most adverse effects that can seriously influence the catalyst structure and performance. Although nitrogen and sulfur are considered less harmful compared to the metal contaminants, it is shown that pore blockage by the coking effect of sulfur and acid sites neutralization by nitrogen are serious problems too. Most recent studies on the deactivation of FCC catalysts at single particle level have provided an in-depth understanding of the deactivation mechanisms. This work will provide the readers with a comprehensive understanding of the current status, related problems and most recent progress made in the FCC technology, and also will deepen insights into the catalyst deactivation mechanisms caused by contaminants and the possible technical approaches to controlling catalyst deactivation problems. 相似文献

Different bacterial species and, particularly Pseudomonas fluorescens, can produce gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and express GABA-binding proteins. In this study, we investigated the effect of GABA on the virulence and biofilm formation activity of different strains of P. fluorescens. Exposure of a psychotropic strain of P. fluorescens (MF37) to GABA (10−5 M) increased its necrotic-like activity on eukaryotic (glial) cells, but reduced its apoptotic effect. Conversely, muscimol and bicuculline, the selective agonist and antagonist of eukaryote GABAA receptors, respectively, were ineffective. P. fluorescens MF37 did not produce biosurfactants, and its caseinase, esterase, amylase, hemolytic activity or pyoverdine productions were unchanged. In contrast, the effect of GABA was associated to rearrangements of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) structure, particularly in the lipid A region. The surface hydrophobicity of MF37 was marginally modified, and GABA reduced its biofilm formation activity on PVC, but not on glass, although the initial adhesion was increased. Five other P. fluorescens strains were studied, and only one, MFP05, a strain isolated from human skin, showed structural differences of biofilm maturation after exposure to GABA. These results reveal that GABA can regulate the LPS structure and cytotoxicity of P. fluorescens, but that this property is specific to some strains. 相似文献

Amphiphilic block copolymers have been investigated for their utilization in emulsion polymerization of butyl methacrylate. Special attention has been paid to the adsorption mechanism of the block copolymers from systematic measurements of equilibrium adsorption isotherms. A series of well-defined water-soluble amphiphilic block copolymers, composed of poly(butyl methacrylate) and poly(sodium methacrylate) blocks, were synthesized by anionic polymerization of butyl methacrylate and tert-butyl methacrylate followed by the thermal deprotection of the tert-butyl ester groups and final hydrolysis. The number density of emulsion polymer particles NP varied as [copolymer]α, α lying between 0.44 and 0.73 according to the hydrophilic content of the copolymers. In contrast with SDS taken as a reference emulsifier, the adsorption of the copolymers was very strong and this provided quite an efficient stabilization of the polymer particles during emulsion polymerization, even at low concentrations (<10−4 mol L−1) and low coverages (<10% of the interfacial area). 相似文献
