Objective

To develop a low-cost pedal ergometer compatible with ultrahigh (7 T) field MR systems to reliably quantify metabolic parameters in human lower leg muscle using phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Materials and methods

We constructed an MR compatible ergometer using commercially available materials and elastic bands that provide resistance to movement. We recruited ten healthy subjects (eight men and two women, mean age ± standard deviation: 32.8 ± 6.0 years, BMI: 24.1 ± 3.9 kg/m2). All subjects were scanned on a 7 T whole-body magnet. Each subject was scanned on two visits and performed a 90 s plantar flexion exercise at 40% maximum voluntary contraction during each scan. During the first visit, each subject performed the exercise twice in order for us to estimate the intra-exam repeatability, and once during the second visit in order to estimate the inter-exam repeatability of the time constant of phosphocreatine recovery kinetics. We assessed the intra and inter-exam reliability in terms of the within-subject coefficient of variation (CV).

Results

We acquired reliable measurements of PCr recovery kinetics with an intra- and inter-exam CV of 7.9% and 5.7%, respectively.

Conclusion

We constructed a low-cost pedal ergometer compatible with ultrahigh (7 T) field MR systems, which allowed us to quantify reliably PCr recovery kinetics in lower leg muscle using 31P-MRS.

The article presents a case report about a 38‐year‐old hemodialyzed woman who presented to our department with a painful, expansile, lytic bone lesion of the fifth metacarpal epiphysis. The lesion was resected and replaced by corticocancellous bone graft. At 3 months, imaging suggested signs of graft resorption and local recurrence which necessitated repeat excision and grafting. Because of secondary parathyroidism subsequent subtotal parathyroidectomy was performed. This procedure leads to appropriate bone remodeling by 8 weeks postoperatively, and recurrence has not been observed at 2 years of follow up.  相似文献

A phenomenological soot model coupled with complex chemistry mechanism for the prediction of soot formation in diesel spray combustion is presented. The prototype of the model is one proposed by Leung and Lindstedt in which soot formation is treated by four global stages: particle nucleation, surface growth, surface oxidation, and particle coagulation, each of which is represented by only a few reaction steps. In the present study, the model is modified according to recent literature data. The formation of soot particles is linked with gas-phase chemistry via diacetylene and naphthalene, which are presumed to be indicative species of particle inception/nucleation. The soot surface growth is described using Frenklach et al.'s active site model, and the oxidation mechanism includes both Nagle and Strickland-Constable's O2 oxidation and Neoh et al.'s OH oxidation models. The soot model integrated with the gas-phase kinetics is then applied in multidimensional spray simulations. The KIVA3 code that is widely used in diesel combustion studies is modified and employed for the simulations. The turbulent flow is predicted using the compressible k-ε model, and the turbulence-chemistry interaction handled by a partially stirred reactor model. The IDEA experimental data for n-heptane sprays in diesel-like conditions (800 K and 50 bar) are used for evaluation of the model. Some reaction rate constants are adjusted to achieve better agreement with the measurements. Further, sensitivity studies have been carried out and the effects of some parameters that affect the predictions are discussed. The results indicate that the model, if applied together with other models that properly describe sprays and turbulent flow, can be used for qualitative and even quantitative prediction of soot formation in diesel combustion.  相似文献

The enthalpies of thermal dissociation (ΔdH) and formation (ΔfH) found in the literature as well as the crystal lattice energies (Ec) of inorganic and organic hexahalogenohafnates (MI2(or MII)HfX2−6; MI and MII denote monovalent and divalent cations respectively and X denotes a halogen) are reviewed and discussed. The enthalpies of formation of the salts were evaluated using the above-mentioned ΔdH values and known enthalpies of formation of products of decomposition. Combination of the enthalpies of formation of hexahalogenohafnates thus obtained or those of the literature with the literature values of the enthalpy of formation of cations and theoretically determined enthalpies of formation of HfX2−6 (or electrostatic lattice energies of the salts) afforded lattice energies of the salts (or enthalpies of formation of gaseous HfX2−6). Values of ΔfH were also assessed taking theoretically obtained electrostatic lattice energies of the salts and enthalpies of formation of HfX2−6 and literature or theoretically determined values of the enthalpy of formation of gaseous cations. The independent sets of crystal lattice energies and thermochemical radii for HfX2−6 were obtained following the Kapustinskii—Yatsimirskii approach. Combination of the latter method with the thermochemical cycle afforded information on the influence of the dimensions of ions on the thermodynamic stability of hexahalogenohafnates with respect to dissociation and oxidation processes. The thermochemical quantities of experimental and theoretical origin correlate with each other reasonably well, thus increasing their reliability.  相似文献

Computer dependent design space is illustrated with the recent international competition project for Kowloon Arts Center. The spatial condition of design resulted from the deployment of Euclidian geometry and use of the nonrational, complex surfaces. Another aspect of computer dependent space was rooted in the contemporary work situation where architects located on the three different continents collaborated in distributed mode over the internet. The resulting project confirms the creative potential of the above aspects of the digital space in contemporary design.  相似文献

Influence of annealing on the textural and microstructural transformation of Cu interconnects having various line widths is investigated. Two types of annealing steps have been considered here: room temperature over 6 months and 200°C for 10 min. The texture was determined by x-ray diffraction (XRD) of various cross-sectional profiles after electropolishing, and the surface, microstructure, and grain boundary character distribution (GBCD) of Cu interconnects were characterized using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) techniques. In order to analyze a relationship between the stress distribution and textural evolution in the samples, microstresses were calculated with decreasing line widths at 200°C using finite element modeling (FEM). In this investigation, it was found that the inhomogeneity of stress distribution in Cu interconnects is an important factor, which is necessary for understanding textural transformation after annealing. A new interpretation of textural evolution in damascene interconnects lines after annealing is suggested, based on the state of stress and the growth mechanisms of Cu electrodeposits.  相似文献

The paper presents theoretical assumptions of an analysis of stereometric files for the purpose of the detection of the occurrence of overlaps. The measured data of a fracture surface were obtained using a profilographometer. An algorithm has been developed based on the probability of the occurrence of maximum Euclidean distances in the investigated areas of the stereometric image. Changes occurring during post-mortem ageing in structure of psoas major and minor (PM) and semitendinosus (ST) muscles of calves, heifers and cows were observed. Samples from muscles taken 3 h after slaughter and after 6 and 12 days of storage at the temperature of 4?°C were analysed using light and transmission electron microscopy. Three hours after slaughter muscle fibres were close to each other and sarcomeres showed normal structure of A- and I-bands, M-lines and Z-disks. The space between myofibrils and sarcolemma and also between single myofibrils in muscle fibres increased during storage. Structure of sarcomeres underwent continuous degradation, length of sarcomeres increased due to enlargement of I-bands accompanied by Z-disk degradation. During ageing structural changes in myofibrils took place faster, were more intensive in muscles of younger animals and were more extensive and faster in PM than in ST muscles.  相似文献
