This paper reports the first integration of laser‐etched polycrystalline diamond microchannels with template‐fabricated microporous copper for extreme convective boiling in a composite heat sink for power electronics and energy conversion. Diamond offers the highest thermal conductivity near room temperature, and enables aggressive heat spreading along triangular channel walls with 1:1 aspect ratio. Conformally coated porous copper with thickness 25 µm and 5 µm pore size optimizes fluid and heat transport for convective boiling within the diamond channels. Data reported here include 1280 W cm?2 of heat removal from 0.7 cm2 surface area with temperature rise beyond fluid saturation less than 21 K, corresponding to 6.3 × 105 W m?2 K?1. This heat sink has the potential to dissipate much larger localized heat loads with small temperature nonuniformity (5 kW cm?2 over 200 µm × 200 µm with <3 K temperature difference). A microfluidic manifold assures uniform distribution of liquid over the heat sink surface with negligible pumping power requirements (e.g., <1.4 × 10?4 of the thermal power dissipated). This breakthrough integration of functional materials and the resulting experimental data set a very high bar for microfluidic heat removal. 相似文献

Acacia angustissima has potential in agroforestry systems for forage production in tropical environments. However, feeding trials indicate that the leaves are potentially toxic. Signs of toxicity in sheep are similar to those presented by sheep fed flatpea (Lathyrus sylvestris) hay which contains a high concentration of the non‐protein amino acid 2,4‐diaminobutanoic acid (DABA). Cation exchange chromatography, high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and NMR were used to isolate and identify the non‐protein amino acid in A angustissima leaves. A quantitative HPLC method was used to determine the content of the non‐protein amino acid in leaves from 20 accessions. The non‐protein amino acid was identified as 4‐N‐acetyl‐2,4‐diaminobutanoic acid (ADAB), previously reported to occur in seeds. The average and range in ADAB content were 16.8 and 10.6–25.4 mg g?1 respectively. This content of ADAB is higher than the levels of DABA in flatpea hay that are toxic to sheep. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

(1) Background: Surgical tendon repair often leads to adhesion formation, leading to joint stiffness and a reduced range of motion. Tubular implants set around sutured tendons might help to reduce peritendinous adhesions. The lubricant hyaluronic acid (HA) is a viable option for optimizing such tubes with the goal of further enhancing the anti-adhesive effect. As the implant degrades over time and diffusion is presumed, the impact of HA on tendon cells is important to know. (2) Methods: A culture medium of rabbit Achilles tenocytes was supplemented with high-molecular-weight (HMW) HA and the growth curves of the cells were assessed. Additionally, after 3, 7 and 14 days, the gene expression of several markers was analyzed for matrix assembly, tendon differentiation, fibrosis, proliferation, matrix remodeling, pro-inflammation and resolution. (3) Results: The addition of HA decreased matrix marker genes, downregulated the fibrosis marker α-SMA for a short time and slightly increased the matrix-remodeling gene MMP-2. Of the pro-inflammatory marker genes, only IL-6 was significantly upregulated. IL-6 has to be kept in check, although IL-6 is also needed for a proper initial inflammation and efficient resolution. (4) Conclusions: The observed effects in vitro support the intended anti-adhesion effect and therefore, the use of HMW HA is promising as a biodegradable implant for tendon repair. 相似文献

A general approach to gate array routing based on an abstract routing space model is presented. An efficient k-terminal net maze runner is described. It does not partition nets into two-terminal net routing problems, but solves the problem by simultaneously growing k search waves. It is shown that the explored routing space diminishes when compared to bidirectional routing schemes. Experimental data show a reduction of CPU time up to 55% and a decrease of total net length up to 6% compared to a bidirectional maze router. For k-terminal nets it is shown that net length decreases with increasing k. Additional routing space restriction is attained by use of variable search space restriction and by the introduction of a dynamic routing space partitioning method based on the concept of regions. This concept allows for determination of nonroutable nets or parts of nets in an efficient way. The new partitioning method may be implemented in any maze runner without increasing the complexity of the maze runner algorithm. Results show an additional decrease of CPU time up to 35% 相似文献

Antioxidant activity of six fractions of cranberry phenolic compounds was determined by inhibition of Cu2+‐induced low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation. The phenolic composition of each fraction was determined by high‐performance liquid chromatography. The phenolic fractions were mixed with aliquots of modified human serum prior to LDL isolation. The serum was modified to remove very‐low‐density lipoprotein and chylomicrons that may bind phenolic compounds. Only fractions 5 and 6 that contained proanthocyanidins (PAs) significantly increased the lag time of LDL oxidation, and the lag time for fraction 6 was significantly higher than for fraction 5. The mass distribution of PAs in these fractions was obtained by matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionisation time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, a technique that allows rapid characterisation of the molecular weight distribution in mixtures of oligomeric compounds. Fraction 5 contained trimers through heptamers, whereas fraction 6 contained pentamers through nonamers. In addition, fraction 6 contained PA oligomers with more doubly linked, A‐type interflavan bonds. Results indicate that PAs specifically associate with LDL in modified serum and increase the lag time of Cu2+‐induced oxidation. Differences between fractions 5 and 6 in PA structure and effects on LDL oxidation suggest that the degree of polymerisation and the nature of the interflavan bond influence antioxidant properties. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Cephalopods, such as squid, cuttlefish, and octopuses, use an array of responsive absorptive and photonic dermal structures to achieve rapid and reversible color changes for spectacular camouflage and signaling displays. Challenges remain in designing synthetic soft materials with similar multiple and dynamic responsivity for the development of optical sensors for the sensitive detection of mechanical stresses and strains. Here, a high dynamic range mechano‐imaging (HDR‐MI) polymeric material integrating physical and chemical mechanochromism is designed providing a continuous optical read‐out of strain upon mechanical deformation. By combining a colloidal photonic array with a mechanically responsive dye, the material architecture significantly improves the mechanochromic sensitivity, which is moreover readily tuned, and expands the range of detectable strains and stresses at both microscopic and nanoscopic length scales. This multi‐functional material is highlighted by creating detailed HDR mechanographs of membrane deformation and around defects using a low‐cost hyperspectral camera, which is found to be in excellent agreement with the results of finite element simulations. This multi‐scale approach to mechano‐sensing and ‐imaging provides a platform to develop mechanochromic composites with high sensitivity and high dynamic mechanical range. 相似文献

We present a framework for distributed mobile sensor guidance to locate and track a target inside an urban environment. Our approach leverages the communications between robots when a link is available, but it also allows them to act independently. Each robot actively seeks the target using information maximization. The robots are assumed to be capable of communicating with their peers within some distance radius, and the sensor payload of each robot is a camera modeled to have target detection errors of types I and II. Our contributions include an optimal information fusion algorithm for discrete distributions which allows each agent to combine its local information with that of its neighbors, and a path planner that uses the fused estimate and a recent coverage result for information maximization to guide the agents. We include simulations and laboratory experiments involving multiple robots searching for a moving target within model cities of different sizes. 相似文献

The biphasic catalytic epoxidation of cyclooctene using the ionic liquid (IL) 1,2‐dimethyl‐3‐octyl‐imidazolium perrhenate ([OMMIM]ReO4) as micellar catalyst and H2O2 as oxidant was investigated. Kinetic experiments were carried out in the intrinsic kinetic regime as proved by variation of stirring rate and temperature. Variation of catalyst concentration allowed for determination of the critical micellar concentration (CMC) of the catalytic IL. The effect of substrate concentrations on the reaction rate was also assessed. Based on the experiments, a kinetic model adapted from enzyme catalysis was proposed to account for the micellar reaction environment. The model takes into account the onset of micelle formation at the CMC. The application of the kinetic model illustrated the good agreement with the experimental data. The model will be applied to other micellar epoxidation reactions and for the design of an appropriate reaction setup in the future. 相似文献

During the last decades, the engineering of chemical processes has focused more and more on energy efficiency and reduction of climate‐changing emissions. Regarding the synthesis of aldehydes, the photocatalytic dehydrogenation of alkanes to olefins, using visible (sun) light, and the subsequent hydroformylation of such olefins with CO2 seem to be capable to achieve both targets. This work deals mainly with catalyst concepts for both reaction steps. Here, kinetic studies of the photocatalytic alkane dehydrogenation are presented, and the feasibility of hydroformylation using CO2 is described in a continuous gas phase reaction. The problems that have to be solved befoe the technical application are discussed and an economic and ecological evaluation for both processes is carried out. 相似文献
