Most network applications assume continuous connectivity-an assumption that does not “migrate” to wireless environments. The authors present the design of a communication layer for mobile computing that dynamically adapts to changes in network connections. Our work was part of AMIGOS (Advanced Mobile Integration in General Operating Systems), a collaboration between researchers at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and the University of Minho in Portugal. The AMIGOS project provides transparent support for semi connected operations on mobile computers running a standard operating system; the project home page is at http://www.econ.cbs.dk/people/birger/AMIGOS/. Briefly, our design lets a mobile user connect a mobile host to a LAN, then disconnect the host from it. The user then can reconnect, for example, via a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) cellular modem without losing TCP/IP connections. A new extrudate bulk density model framework was developed, which is taking into account the melt rheological effects based on mixing principle and non-Newtonian power law theory for a twin-screw extrusion cooking process. The main ingredients in the extrusion process investigation were wheat, fish meal and soybean protein. The average absolute deviation (AAD) of the model prediction for extrudate bulk density is 5.3 % for the investigated process. The prediction results demonstrate that the proposed equation can be used to model the extrudate bulk density in the twin-screw extruder extrusion cooking process.  相似文献

We studied the electrical transport through epitaxial, 8 nm long and about 100 nm diameter, GaAs pillars. They are fabricated with molecular beam epitaxy using a self-assembling method called local droplet etching. The nanopillars are embedded in an AlGaAs tunneling barrier between two epitaxial GaAs layers. Because of the epitaxial growth, the pillars are connected to these GaAs layers without additional interfaces. They thus can be considered as electronic point contacts between three-dimensional electron reservoirs. Voltage-current characteristics of the structures feature a characteristic asymmetry that is not observed in reference samples. Furthermore, the behavior of the resistance in magnetic fields applied parallel and perpendicular to the current direction is compared for samples with and without pillars. Clear differences are found that are associated with current-carrying states in the pillars.  相似文献

Resident democracy as a special form of participatory democratic set-up is fundamental in the understanding, and self-understanding, of the non-profit housing sector in Denmark. Through a case study, the paper explores how resident democracy is perceived and narrated between residents and employees at a housing association. The study indicates that the meta-story of democracy is disconnected from practice and the lived lives of residents. Three analytical tensions structure the analysis, which relate to the conditions for realizing the democratic ideal embedded in the structure of the sector. The tensions are related to representative versus participatory democracy; collectivity versus individuality; and service versus welfare. The tensions elucidate how resident democracy is squeezed between different logics, which result in an ambiguous setting for practising democracy. Based on the results, the article discusses conditions for prospective democracy in the Danish non-profit housing sector.  相似文献

The load capacity of bonded joints can be increased if transverse pressure is applied at the interface. The transverse pressure is assumed to introduce a Coulomb-friction contribution to the cohesive law for the interface. Response and load capacity for a bonded single-lap joint was derived using non-linear fracture mechanics. The results indicated a good correlation between theory and tests. Furthermore, the model is suggested as theoretical base for determining load capacity of bonded anchorages with transverse pressure, in externally reinforced concrete structures.  相似文献

Steel components are required in the infrastructure and the facilities of the hydrogen economy. The high hydrogen pressures in the hydrogen economy lead to embrittlement and surface corrosion of the steels. For the functionality of the facilities it is necessary to suppress the embrittlement and the surface corrosion of the steels by protective layers, e.g. ceramic thin films. With regard to fusion power plants ceramic thin films on the structural steel materials are also required. These thin films work as a tritium permeation barrier that is necessary to prevent the loss of the radioactive fuel inventory. Oxide thin films, e.g. Al2O3, Er2O3, and Y2O3, are promising candidates as tritium permeation barrier layers. In terms of the application in the first wall, this is especially true for yttrium due to its favorably short decay time after neutron activation compared to the other candidates. The Y2O3 layers with thicknesses of 0.5 μm–1 μm are deposited on both substrate sides by RF magnetron sputter deposition. Since the microstructure of the barrier layer plays an important role for the permeation reduction, layers with three different magnetron process modes and thus three different microstructures are prepared. After annealing the cubic crystal structure of all thin films is verified by X-ray diffraction and the different microstructures are investigated by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The Y2O3 stoichiometry of all thin films and a chromium oxide material segregation at the interface are verified by analysis methods such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The permeation reduction factors of all thin films are determined in gas-driven deuterium permeation experiments. Corresponding to the three different microstructures, reduction factors of 25, 45, and 1100 are identified. Thus, the permeation reduction is strongly dependent on the Y2O3 microstructure. The measurement results suggest that a high density of grain boundaries leads to a high hydrogen permeation.  相似文献
